In Papa Deuce's thread about the new Smart car - several people mentioned that they might consider it if it had heated seats. I guess I was kind of surprised at the number of people who considered heated seats a real requirement.

Are these really that important? I have a new Odyssey (it's my dad's really) that has them but it is late June and in Arkansas and Louisiana so that's sort of a moot point.

I've never had a car that had them although when a friend used to borrow my Odyssey in CA she would trade me her SAAB convertible that had them. I used the heated seats in CA with the top down as it is always cold at night in CA.

An aside - whenever she would borrow my Odyssey she would keep it a couple of weeks even though she only needed it for a weekend. We worked in the same building and lived a mile apart so it wasn't like it was hard to make the swap. She just liked my Odyssey. As someone who owned a convertible for almost 2 decades it was fun to have a convertible for awhile although I sure missed the space in the Odyssey. One time I bought 2 lampshades, and I had to put the top down to get them home in the SAAB.

Love my heated seats!!! In fact, there have been times that my back has been close to going into spasms that I have hopped in my car and driven around with the seats heated. Yes, I know...no so economical, but it really helps my poor old back!! No way will I have a car without them. Dh's car doesn't have them and he is insanely jealous of my seats. It's a sad thing to see....a grown man lusting after his wife's heated seats!!!

Our Volvo has them. They are nice, but definitely not that important to me.

We have them in both our vehicles and DH loves them as he has a bad back and they help that with the heat.
I hardly ever use mine as it is so hot here and more heat is the last thing I want! They are nice though just knowing they are there.

Heated seats are a great thing to have if you live in the northern half of the country and have cold winters. Seats don't always warm up very quickly just from body heat.
They are especially good if you have leather seats instead of cloth. Those are like ice when you sit on them in 30 F weather. :thumbsup2

I must agree. I love my heated seats. As soon as I bought a car with leather seats, they had to be heated. Especially up here in the Northeast. And, I too, love how my back will feel better after putting them on.

Heated seats aren't important to me at all. My mother has them in her car and I don't like them.

I have a volvo S80...and absolutely love my heated seats. I drive 75 miles one way to work so I want to be comfortable for those hours in my car. The heat also helps my lower back pain! I also love turning them on for the passenger w/o them knowing about it... after a few minutes they look at me so strangely... why is my butt getting hot? :rotfl2: I love it! BUT... it also COOLS... so on those hot summer days you don't sit on hot black leather! If you keep the fan on high the fans will turn on automatically even w/the car is off so it doesn't get hot inside the car! Best of both worlds. The only thing I don't like about my car is that you can't get the auto start on them :(. The dealership spent 8 hours trying and just couldn't do it.

I MUST have heated seats. I have a VW TDI beetle with leather and heated seats and they get very toasty in the winter. Its a great thing to have after you've just been outside scraping ice of the windshield, heats your bum up in no time :thumbsup2

I'd like some cooled seats. You can keep the heated seats. ;)

Love heated seats. In the Colorado winter, they're a must have.

Being in FL, I'd never even thought of having heated seats...what for? Well, we bought a Cadillac (love that car! ) a few months ago and I turned on my heated seat *by accident* and didn't realize it until I noticed my arthritis was significantly better. They really do help with that!

My Passat has them, and I must say- they are LOVELY. The downfall to them is leather seats in the summer LOL. (my Envoy and Grand Am had em too)

I wont own another car without em I can say that. My lower back aches a lot- but not in the winter sitting in my car....

DBF's truck doesnt have them, and in the winter we take the Passat!

No, heated seats are not a requirement for me when buying a car. :teeth: Maybe because I've never had a car that had them--I have no clue what I'm missing out on.

I try not to get too many fancy accessories in a car--I used to be a service advisor at a car dealership and that fancy stuff is usually the first thing to break after the warranty is up.
