I have been to Disney World many times over the past few years. I have noticed that the sound level for rides and shows has become much louder each year. This is the first time to take my kids 5 and 2.

We are taking it easy only doing the MK and EPCOT and staying for a whole week on property.

I am concerned about the sound level. In the past my husband and I have worn ear plugs.. and our 5 year old will be able to also. I am considering buying some 'ear muffs' for the baby....

Has any one else delt with this? I would love to hear any and all opinions regarding protective hearing, for themselves and kids.

Thanks! Julia:)

My brother in law works in construction. My sister has promised me some of his earplugs for my youngest, who is terrified of the noise of fireworks.

If they don't work, we'll just make sure she's back in the resort by the time the fireworks start. But I think that, if we can just mute the sound a bit, she might love to see them.

I'm interested in other solutions as well.

One step ahead (online) sells ear putty. My friend used it for fireworks for the 4th for her 1 year old. He kept it in, I tried plugs with my 1 year old--he rubbed them out. But then again he didn't seem to mind the noise.

ANOTHER one of polineedyan's health issues, is hearing loss. As a youth, I used to ride a tractor a few times a week to mow our fields. I listened to a walkman style radio, and always had to turn the volume up to hear it.
Then, as an adult, I used a stone saw for one summer, almost daily, with no earplugs. Hey, I was young, and these things werent in the forefront of my mind. Well, now at the ripe old age of 34, I absolutely HAVE to wear hearing protection, even to things like fireworks, because I cant handle the grumble I hear in my ears. Also, if there is a tv on and someone talks to me, I just cant distinguish between the two sounds. At one time, I was a handbell director, and sure enough, I simply couldnt handle the sound. Couldnt tell two bells apart, etc.
I think it is a fabulous idea to protect your ears if you have any doubt. Dont wait for something to go wrong to start protecting yourself. By then, its too late.
No more rock concerts for ME I guess..

Thanks for everyone's quick responses! You all hit both nails on their heads... it is not just their comfort I am concerned about... but their health too...

I am going to check out that putty.... One Step Ahead rocks!

Any other suggestions?

My oldest who is 5 is extremely sensitive to noise and we thought we should also protect my 2 year old as well. We purchased the peltor kids earmuffs from enviro safety products online.Do a search and you should be able to find them! They're extremely lightweight with a low profile and very comfortable for the kids. And Peltor is a name you can trust for hearing protection. For me, personally, this type of ear protection protects hearing better than earplugs/earputty. And as an added bonus they come in my 5 year old's favorite color Pink :cutie: They're relatively inexpensive, IMO, too. Good luck!
