Heard some FP kiosks were uncovered in MK today

Thank you for this. One question: Do you book the fp virtual or through a kiosk, and if the kiosk, do you have to be at the kiosk outside the attraction, as in the old paper fp days? I used paper fps in the past and loved them. If you had the system down, you could breeze through a park.
The kiosks are only necessary for those without a smartphone. If you use a kiosk, it can be for any fast pass, not just one near the machine.

disneyland offered both. Maxpass was a paid for service and you could use the app and the paper fastpasss were still available.

I think some folks saw my comment about day of and maxpass and how is used to be that you had to be scanned in the park..

but misses the second half of my comment where it could be something that opens at 7am with park reservations like the boarding groups..

That would be nice. I suppose for us it will depend on cost as to whether it is worth it or not. Our touring style is spontaneous but with fp+ we had to plan but in such a way as to "feel" spontaneous. Having gotten the paper fp system down, it was a hard transition to fp+, but we finally got it. I didn't care for the stress, and the family didn't care for the restrictive feel. So, I figured out a plan that would allow for a lot of spontaneity while being satisfied with 3 headliner fps. Now, I'm trying to wrap my brain around how to obtain a pass virtually, and go back to a more relaxed planning style.
One thing that comes to mind is if the new fp system levels the playing field, what is to keep families staying onsite? There should be some incentive or Disney will lose money on that front. Regardless, I have to figure out all of this by September.

We really liked using Maxpass and I only assume we don't have it at WDW because due to the differences in parks, it just won't work as well there. I can't imagine why WDW would've said no to it if it did.

I wish they would completely dump FP and the stupid scheduling part.

Even though it worked for me I haven't liked the either FP system. My gripe is I detest having to be told when I can ride something when I go to a park. I much prefer most other parks systems where you buy a wrist band and jump into whatever queue you want when you want.

Imagine not having to refresh the app all day to try to get another FP. Just walk into the FP queue and be done with it

Just wanted to add on to this that even with both options for Fastpasses, people at Disneyland can and do still opt to not even paper Fastpass if they just want to ride standby or single rider. I don't get it when you have something that can help you avoid a line but I think that's definitely a Californian local thing which I can appreciate. It's not for me but I'm happy there are people who aren't like me and don't mind waiting in lines.

No one has told people that they have to use fastpass. That is the way a child looks at things. Bring it back and then they just don't have to use it. It's as simple as that. I hate seeing this argument against fastpass from people.

"I can't believe they're thinking about bringing back fastpass! Why are they bringing it back?? Great! Now I'm stuck using fast passes!".

Here's a plan of attack for people who don't like fastpasses..... Go to Walt Disney World and don't use them. It really is that simple.

That's not what I am saying at all. I'm not against it and I prefer having over having nothing. All I'm saying is there is much simpler systems out there.

it’s hard to explain but I can tell you that The maxpass system made being spontaneous so easy. It was so easy to go with the flow and change things and still get headliners.

The problem is, Disney is more crowded than any other theme park in the country. They have more parks, they have more people. They need a system that spaces out guests when riding, If everyone with a FP could just use it whenever they felt like it, we'd be back to legacy FP, which wasn't working at all. People found a way to use it whenever they wanted to and that was destroying the whole reason for having it. Apparently a lot of people like to ride a night, as do I. Not as many like to get up at the crack of dawn and ride early in the morning- Splash Mountain first thing in the morning? No thanks. Or RRC or Space Mtn. - I'll ride them, but I'd like to get my eyes open a few hours before taking on those and so would lots of others it seems.

So, we'd have a situation where the fp line would be jammed in the afternoons or evenings, not utilized during the morning as much. That won't work.

didnt maxpass come after fastpass plus? I do agree that it may not translate to WDW as well. It would take some re figuring.

I loved Maxpass when we did DL, it was so easy and so much better. I do think it would be harder IN WDW since parkhopping isnt as easy.

I believe so, but I'm not sure that makes a difference really. I think the problem is, it wouldn't work.

There is a way to fix having too many people having it. You limit the availability of the pass. You do that by charging a lot for it and only selling so many a day.

They've always limited the supply of FPs. I don't understand why some folks are eager for them to raise the costs of a WDW vacation even further. Nothing personal to anyone, but isn't $140/day enough?

It wouldn't seem like the idea of a pay to play system is going over too well and I don't think it's what kind of system they have that's causing the angst. I think they probably should charge for whatever they introduce. It's a sure fire way to cut down on demand. But that opinion is not a popular one on these boards.

You listed several rides you have not ever ridden because of the lines. The problem is, there are many other rides that have lines just as long- so why is it you can ride the other rides I listed, whose lines rival the ones you listed? But, you're right that popular isn't the right word, let's change it to headliners. I've corrected it in my original post . You can parse the words, but it doesn't change the fact that there are a great many rides whose lines are as long as the ones you listed and have never done.

Of course there are over the top complainers, but that doesn't change your suggestion that if we don't want an unpleasant experience, we should just skip headliners and be happy with it. I am one of those debating whether to stick with our trip if they don't introduce a ride system. That's not over the top. The fact is, for many reasons. we will not stand in long lines for rides. We will not enjoy WDW, especially right now with no shows and no parades, without riding headliners. It's perfectly reasonable to make the decision that without what we consider a neccesity being in place, to put off our trip. And it's perfectly reasonable to think that by now, with them rapidly increasing capacity as they have, they should have had a plan in place to handle the crowd they invited.

Couldn't agree more. These message boards are free feedback for Disney. Why shouldn't we tell them how we feel? We're the ones paying the bills.
