Heard some FP kiosks were uncovered in MK today

So another system that forces you to be at rope drop? No thanks!

That was one of the beauties of FP+, being able to pre-book and sleep in if necessary

Dan

I'll preface all of this by saying I love Maxpass and have used it frequently. I enjoy it much more than FP+ because I'm a get to the parks at rope drop person. However, I've had no issues using Maxpass later in the day. Typically if we go to DLR, we stay across the street at one of the partner hotels. We'll typically leave the parks around 2-3pm to go take a dip in the pool. Maxpass is nice because I can finish up a swim with the kids and book our next evening ride like Guardians of the Galaxy or Space Mountain depending on which park we're going to. I think it's a pretty flexible system. Sure, you might miss out on Maxpasses for the really popular rides like Radiator Racers but more likely than not, you're going to still be able to get reservations for rides at decent times. Then you have the option of booking your next one when the window opens.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not sure how well that system would work at MK or HS but I'd love to see it tested.

I’m not trying to cause an argument or devalue anyone’s concerns but has anyone actually been in the parks during these horrible “wait times”? I’ve been twice since reopening (sept 2020, April 2021) both times were so much better than years past. I loved not having to worry about planning everything and running around trying to make our reservations. I have seen many tik toks and vlogs where people are testing the “wait times” and they are almost always inflated. I’m just wondering if anyone who’s complaining about these crazy wait times are actually waiting in the lines or just seeing the numbers and moving on to something else.
Both of those trips were before they were opening up capacity.

I’ve commented a few times.. but if I can ease anyone’s mind on being nervous about a day of system like maxpass..

it’s really not bad. You get scanned into the park- so arrive early for rope drops and you can make your first FP selection. It then starts a timer on when you can make your next one. If your paying good attention to that time you can make the next one- you easily start stacking them for the day.
Also- it’s nice when you take a hotel break- you can keep making them and start stacking them for the evening.

our Disneyland trips we easily rode headliners multiple times in a trip.. once you learn the rides that run out of FP first and get the system down it’s really nice.
It’s interesting that folks used to fastpass plus can’t imagine not having it and those of us who have every only used maxpass can’t imagine pre booking fastpasses.

one thing people have liked about post Covid Disney is that it doesn’t require extreme planning. That’s why we have always loved Disneyland.

I think Disney can use the park reservation system to create a day if fastpass booking that wouldn’t require you to be in the park.. they have done that with boarding groups. Then fastpass for hoppers opening up at 2pm for other parks.
You lost me at arrive early. We like to sleep in and have lazy mornings. We're up early every day for work, I don't want to rush on vacation.

I was there the week before Easter. We waited over an hour for the safari. 40 minutes for Navi with a 20 minute wait posted, 40 minutes for jungle cruise. Lines were nutty. 7 dwarfs was posted about 90 minutes and I think it was close to it. I much prefer a guaranteed 3.

That is why you had lower wait times. It is worse now.

Things have changed significantly since April in the way of park capacity. In April you were enjoying no more than 35% capacity limits- even lower in September. There have been a lot of reports about wait times and I can read the data put out every day.

Yes, we just got back from a 9 day trip. We never had to rope drop before and found we have to now because an hour and a half after opening to park close, lines were bad. We actually found the numbers to be under-inflated in the mornings. The line for Space at one point was almost back to Monster's Inc Laugh Floor and I saw the Slinky Dog Dash line past One Man's Dream. It was pretty wild.

If they do give early access to resort guests, you wouldn't have to be in the park to make your first selections. But yes, having to be there early is a pain in the backside. We don't sleep in, but I don't like rope drop in any way anymore. It's much too crowded and people are insane. It used to be a staple for us, not anymore. But right now, it's all just chatter because Disney won't say anything, They can drop hints about that cursed dining plan, but not a whisper about the long lines and what their plan is.

Which leads to believe they are still far away from bringing a FP system in.

I agree, but it's infuriating that it's seems to be last on their priority list. I still have a couple of weeks to decide what we're going to do, but I hold out little hope they'll release anything.

For your sake I hope they do something. From the way things are going they seem to want to get whatever new system working and not just bring back FP+ temporarily. IMO it makes more sense that way. Mainly I think they will get less backlash if they put in a paid system over bringing back FP+ and then telling people when they do change it they have to pay for it.

Wait times now are what standby lines have been for years with FP+. I'm not saying its pleasant but honestly, an hour or less during peak summer really isn't bad. Would I wait in those lines? Nope. But I've been going to Disney for 3 decades. I've been to waterparks with an hour+ wait for a waterslide and no one complains. Disney isn't meant to be done in a day. None of the Disney parks are.

As for me, I've never ridden 7DMT, Navi, FoP, RoR, Smugglers Run, Slinky Dog, or even TSMM despite 4 trips since 7DMT opened. Why? Because I made the decision to not stand in the ridiculous lines. It didn't stop me from having a good time and enjoying myself though. There are always other things to do/see/ride.

Sometimes I think you all are looking for things to stress about. It's very clear Disney is trying to move away from the utter nonsense and chaos that the masses created once social media came about. There is no "going back to normal" with Disney. They are creating a new normal.

OK

I am not sure at all what their logic would be to put in same day fast pass. How would it benefit Disney? As others have said, Disneyland is a completely different beast. Mk is so spread out that the idea that people would have to jump around with what is available would frustrate people. Part of the appeal of FP+ was the “belief” that you were getting a good deal so to speak on some of your ride times. People walking in not knowing if they would be waiting 10 minutes or 2 hours for a headliner would not be happy.

Realistic expectations, going in knowing it will be different from our other trips. We are aching for a vacation and are excited to be going to Disney even if we don't get to ride TT a couple times, or FOP more than once this trip. My kids will have to figure out what their threshold for a line is and what they are willing to wait for and what's not worth it. We will rope drop/break/go back in the evenings. We will roll with the punches, just like we have been doing for the last 18 months. If one thing I learned is, if I don't complain about something, my kids don't either.

Maybe I’m misreading something but are you sure?

I just checked in online for my October stay at BCV 🤔
Yea I’m not sure what the timeframe is and I’m new to online check in myself so I wasn’t sure. But I def have the ability to check in for my October trip at the moment.
I have the option of online check in right now for a June 2022 stay
Do any of you know if checking in early changes anything WRT the cancellation policy?

Based on the amount of times I’ve changed my hotel reservations after I completed the online check in (for my July trip that is, not my Oct trip which was referenced above), I want to say that early check in has no bearing on the cancellation policy. But I can’t confirm that for sure.

The idea of same day fast passes with having to be in the park is huge fun killer for my family. As Florida residents who do about 6 weekends a year at the parks, we are happy with 3 guaranteed fast passes for the day and a lunch and dinner reservation, and if we can get more fast passes later in the day, that is just icing on top of our day.
Even on the most crowded saturdays at MK, we stay at our own pace and have a nice relaxing day.
We can’t do rope drop with 2 kids under 5 nor would we want to. We also aren’t going to cancel guaranteed dining reservations because of fast passes on the day of. Will be interesting to see what they end of doing.
It seems to me the simplest thing Disney could do to add revenue through fast pass without losing goodwill from customers would be to keep the same fast pass system as before, but charge a fee for each fast pass obtained after 3 on the day of visit. Then possibly allow all on property hotel guests to add a 4th fast pass in advance for a $fee.

I’ve been going since 1987, so I’m pretty familiar with how lines have been historically too. I’ve ridden every ride you listed with the exception of ROR and SR ( only because we haven’t been since ROR was opened and only a few trips since SR) more times than I can count and not once stood in line for an hour to do it. That list ought to include Space Mountain, Splash, Big Thunder, Everest, RRC, TOT, test Track, Soarin’and even PPF as well, because those lines get just as long as the newer ones do.

You’re suggesting that people spending thousands of dollars should just shut up and accept that WDW is unpleasant if they choose to ride headliners . It’s been since before legacy started that I stood in line for an hour for anything. I can’t imagine spending the money it costs to go and not ride them. I’m glad you can have a good time going and skipping every headliner there is, but I don’t think that’s the case for most people.

That’s is not the new normal WDW is trying to create. They’re going to have a ride system, that is a certainty. The only question is when and what exactly it will be. The good thing for you is, you won’t be affected since you’re willing to skip all the popular rides for years.
