First of all I haven't read the whole thread so if this was said sorry for repeating.
We are not a gay family and we haven't even heard of " gay days " before we went in June a couple of years ago...and I will tell you first hand you will never know the difference except for the crowd level.
We never knew it was gay day until we were on the bus talking with everyone around us and we were all commenting on the amount of people wearing red that day ( including us )
it felt so good to be in a festive family type gathering and I felt a closness to people that I haven't felt in years, it really was nice to see people so happy towards others there . Other than that, no worries, folks just enjoying the parks with their families and new friends, we seen NOTHING untowards at all, no fears.
Go Enjoy your family, and have a ball, I promise you will be glad you went !
