Does anyone know of a good health food store near WDW, or a grocery store with a good health food section? I'm looking for items like tempeh, soy milk, Garden Burgers and organic produce (please don't laugh at me). In NY you can find this at almost every grocery store, but in my experience the South tends to lean a little towards meat and dairy foods. Has anyone ever seen these things in Goodings or Publix? One of my favorite things about DVC is the kitchen because I eat a very restricted diet (vegan) and I can't eat very much of the food at WDW. We will be driving from NY and staying at the BCV if that helps.

I don't have any info, but I think it's a great question. Orlando has to have some options along this route. Perhaps a search on the Orlando internet yellow pages might be helpful line on the netscape site? Just a thought.

Before I could only find Imagine Rice Dream (milk) at health food stores. But I've seen them regular stores including Walgreen's. Look for the manufacturer's toll free number listed on the boxes. Call them and ask them what stores in Lake Buena Vista carries their product. Use your hotel accomodation's zip code. You might have to go to 2 stores to get all your products.

Please post back what natural health food store you did find.

Good Luck,

MMCD

There is a Whole Foods Market somewhere in the area. I saw it posted on these boards some months ago. In case you are unfamiliar with Whole Foods, it is a huge grocery store(like a safeway, publix, etc) that carries primarily organic foods(when available)....no GMO's no nitrites, etc.....We have one here in Seattle and i love it.

Publix normally carries soy milk and a few different brands of veggie burgers - Boca, Morningstar, etc. They also carry several "Amy's" meals.

Not sure about the produce.

The Whole Foods store is in Winter Park, sort of the opposite end of Orlando from WDW. It might be worth the trip to get everything at once though. Diana

Thank you SO much, everyone. I ran health food in Orlando through yellowpages.com, but it's difficult to tell what is an actually health food store and what is a vitamin depot. I didn't want to call everyone and then mapquest them. The Whole Foods Market sounds like what I'm looking for. It's also great to know that Publix carries Amy's. Thanks again!:D

during our Oct. trip. It was definitely small and didn't have a great variety of items that we're used to at Whole Foods. But, it did have the soy milk (and soy delicious - "ice cream", which was a must have). There were also organic foods, and alternatives to wheat - which is another thing we were looking for. We had to do some shopping at the Albertson's next door to get everything we needed, but at least we found what we were looking for.

Here are the directions that someone gave to me when I asked this question last summer(??). I think they came from Lesley...

"There is a Chamberlin's store not too far from WDW. If you exit WDW property from the Downtown Disney hotel area as if you were going to Goodings, then turn left instead of going straight across into the Crossroads. Go straight on this road (535 turns off....don't stay on 535, keep going straight) Eventually you will arrive at Sand Lake Rd. (also accessible from I4) Off of Sand Lake Rd at the intersection with Dr. Phillips Blvd is a large shopping center with an Albertsons. In this shopping center is Chamberlins.

Alternatively you could take I4 to Sand Lake Rd and head away from International Drive.

Its a smallish store, but you can probably get the basics here. I believe there is even a little in store cafe.

It's much closer than Whole Foods (which is a beautiful store...but we stop on the way down or not at all....) "
