Reports are out of a new screening process that involves food --- it seems they are inspecting EVERY.SINGLE.ITEM. And yes, this does include the bags & bags & BAGS of candy that people have collected at the party in MK and all of the extra snack credits. Lines are stupidly long ... a few reports of missing flights.

This is for those who decide to give ME the time of a flight that is domestic to get an extra hour before pick up, might want to re-think that!

Wow, that could really slow things up, also the new security procedures are to start today for people flying into the USA.
YUP, just saw this pop up on my FB feed ...

Air Canada's website says passengers flying to the U.S. should be checked in no less than two hours for their flight time unless they are flying out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport before 10 a.m. ET, in which case the passengers should be at the airport three hours prior to their flight time, the airline says.

Can you point me in the direction of what change came into effect today?

Well my next visit will be fun. I always hand carry a large box or two of treats from the Main St. Confectionary. On top of that I've had too many past experiences with DME just barely getting me to MCO that I started calling them to change my pick up to 30 minutes prior to what they originally booked. Sounds like I'm now going to have to be picked up an hour earlier.

I keep wondering if we should get NEXXUS cards, any idea if it would help with some of this?

It does, if you are able to go through a TSAPrecheck (USA) or Nexus (Canada) security line, though travelers at canadian airports always have to out their laptops in the bin for screening.

From the TSA press release in the summer discussing new enhanced domestic screening ( https://www.tsa.gov/news/releases/2...-baseline-stronger-domestic-security-measures ):

"The stronger security measures do not apply to passengers enrolled in TSA Pre✓® who are using TSA Pre✓® lanes. TSA also marked another milestone earlier this month with TSA Pre✓® now available at 200 airports nationwide. Travelers enrolled in TSA Pre✓® do not need to remove shoes, 3-1-1 liquids, laptops, electronics, light outerwear, or belts. The program allows TSA to focus resources on passengers who may pose a high risk to security while providing expedited screening to those travelers who have been identified as low-risk, trusted travelers."

Hhow would this work if I have a connection time of 1.5 hours from YYZ to MCO? I'd already be "checked in", but would be doing security and customs. Mind you, we land quite early in YYZ (8:07am), so hopefully it won't slow us down at all.

Anyone knows how to be sure we get TSA PreCheck if we are traveling with our Nexus card? DH booked us flights to LAX in April with Aeroplan points (Air Canada) and he didn't know he had to enter our Nexus numbers in the system so our flights were booked without them. I edited the traveler info later with our Nexus number but I remember reading somewhere that some airline will only print the PreCheck on the tickets IF the Nexus number was in the traveler file/profile prior to booking their flights... Anyone knows about Air Canada?

We often used our Nexus cards to cross the land borders but never to fly to the USA. We are flying out of YUL.

I am glad I didn't read this thread before I went to the Halloween party in September. I guess we were real lucky coming home. Somehow we got PreCheck again and they just waived us through security. We would have been there forever with the amount of candy we brought back.

We've had PreCheck the last 3 times we've been to Orlando. I never signed up for it so not sure how it's happening.

Before I signed up for Global Entry I would get pre-check all the time. People who travel a lot seem to get it on a more regular basis (my thinking it's a "motivation" to get you to pay for the service). The first time I didn't get it and I had to go back through regular security again, it made me want to spend the 85 dollars even more.

We were in LAX last year and just followed the signs for Nexus/Global Entry I don't think our boarding basses had the PreCheck on them. We had no problem.

This didn't start until the day before i created this thread but you were on my mind when i read the stories! I thought I should put this out here so anyone heading down soon would be aware. There was no warning, just one day to the next started going beyond anal on people's carry-on. Line ups are still reported as over 90 minutes long all day. When we came home in February the WestJet counter wasn't open until 90 minutes before the flight so i don't know how this will work! That flight was a turn-around one for the crew so they weren't able to work the counter until they got there. They then became our flight crew for the way home, making for a very long day for them!

I saw on one of the other threads that they have been messing with people's candy since the beginning of September. That haul of candy home was one of the ways I managed to convince DH to go to the party. It wouldn't have been good if it had been taken away from us.

BTW, i don't think you've ever shared the promised pictures of your outfit ....

They are still sitting on DH camera. As soon as he's downloaded them I'll share. We were soggy wet messes before we even made it to the park (but we dried off eventually).

It will be whatever airport you are flying out of. I had to pull my tic-tacs and gum out of my carry-on. My sister had a couple of apples in a bag, and they took them out and tossed them into a bin.

Like a garbage bin or just a bin to go through the scanner?
