We are heading to WDW later this month. Thinking about driving to Vero Beach on a free day. Is it worth the drive?

A few years ago we did this. We called ahead and it was fine to go for the day. We went to the front desk when we got there and gave our ID. We did the trip because I wanted to check out vero for a future vacation and for that reason I was glad to have made the trip. That said the drive felt kind of long and as for a pool day, the pool experience was like many of the Dvc afternoon pool parties. At the time, my dd was small and the beach was a little rough/steep for her. It did seem like a great family vacation spot and it was very nice. I would like to vacation there one day. So I thought it was great to be able to check out the resort and we had a fun day. But if you are mainly interested in a resort/pool day, it is kind of a long trip for that experience and I'd save the drive and spend the day at a wdw resort pool.

Thanks for the reply. We own DVC & are thinking VB might be a place we would like to stay someday. We thought it would help to see it first & check out the area.

I wouldn't recommend a day trip from WDW. I agree with the other poster that the drive is a bit long at 2 hours and there really isn't much in the area. As for staying at the resort, I think it's a fantastic 3 to 4 night add on stay to a WDW visit. It's a well kept resort that you can't appreciate in just a day. Having all the amenities so close makes VB a real treat compared to many other beach resorts I've stayed at. We just completed our second consecutive trip this year and couldn't feel more pleased with our stay.

Vero Beach is a gorgeous resort and pool but IMHO not worth the drive to check it out.

We were very hesitant to stay there last year when we were debating on going there so we book 3 days at wilderness then went to vero beach after renting a car and stayed at vero beach for 4 days then went back and stayed at boardwalk for another 4 days. I have DS and DD twins 14 yo and they said that VB was their favorite part of the vacation. Now this year we are staying at VB for 8 days and only one a BLT, that's how much we liked it. And if you look and plan there is actually stuff to do off resort. If your at all interested you owe it to yourself to at least make a day of it,

Thanks for all the replies. We go to WDW every year, so we don't mind being away from "the world" for an entire day. We have been hesitant to stay at VB because we don't know enough about it. We have read trip reports, looked at DIsney websites & such & we think it looks like a place for us to try. We'll have to discuss is the two hour car ride makes sense just to see it.

Any other info, replies are welcome.
Thanks
