I looks like ya'll had a good day. We haven't completed our GDGD yet. I plan on doing it the third weekend in March since it is my off weekend.
It was a lot of fun. Josie really surprised us.What a great day! Look at little Ms J getting all in there with her shy self! Looks like a really fun day for ALL involved.
It was a wonderful day! I don't really know who enjoyed it more to be honest.Great for all of you!Sounds like ya'll had a good day, and I'm sure all the residents enjoyed ya'll being there.
That story about the little man who thinks he's going to marry Taylor Swift is too funny!![]()
It was so worth it Dana. Can't wait to hear about your GAD event!I looks like ya'll had a good day. We haven't completed our GDGD yet. I plan on doing it the third weekend in March since it is my off weekend.
My mom used to work at a nursing home when I was little. We adopted a grandma there. We called her Grandma Fern-she was a retired school teacher. My mom would bring her home every now and then for dinner just to get her out. She had a son but he lived in Florida and never paid her a visit. She was the sweetest lady and was always so happy to come to our house just to hand out for a little bit.Looks like alot of fun! what a great day...it brings back alot of memories from when I was a child and my parents were in the Knights of Columbus. We are about to put my godmother in a Sr assisted living center so Ashton and I are about to make lots of new grandparents...
It was fantastic Lessa! It was most definitely wonderful for all involved. Makes the heart feel good for sure.Fantastic! Looks like you had a wonderful time and created a special day for all those wonderful people.
Awww your Junior Red Cross volunteer activity sounds so sweet and awesome Rosie! I know we weren't there for long but I totally fell in love with the residents and the coordinator. EVERYONE there, including the staff was just incredible. We will definitely be back. It might be warmer days but we will be back. You really have to experience doing it to fully realise that the JOY created is yours as well !!! Residents in settings like this truly LOVE the contact from the outside world and their happiness is priceless !!
As a child I volunteered thru the Junior Red Cross at a local nursing home with a weekly"Trolly" cart !! We sold simple things like soap , cards etc !!! The joy it gave the residents to be able to choose their things still lives in my heart!!!
I hope you found something Kayce! Keep us informed!Looks like you guys had a great day and helped make others' day great too. What a fantastic opportunity for you and the kids. I am off to look at opportunities around here!!
It was great to get to do this together. I can't tell you how overwhelming it was to see our girls so actively helping. They didn't complain and genuinely wanted to be involved. It really didn't take a lot of time for Leona and I to get things together. It was so worth it. Not that things need to be easy but it was almost effortless in comparison to how happy everyone seemed to be.What a wonderful thing for all of you to do! How sweet of you to give up your time and give to these people.
That man that ate 7+ cupcakes must be related to me! I'd have eaten all of them.![]()
Thanks Sarah! We did have a great time.Awww, love this update! Looks like you had a great time doing the GAD service. The pictures are so sweet.![]()
I was so encouraged when I found this opportunity. It's really tough for us to do a lot of things as a family because of Joe's schedule-he works every other weekend. That looks like yall had such a great GAD experience. I'm glad yall were able to find something to do as a family.
It was a wonderful day! I don't really know who enjoyed it more to be honest.
Thanks Queen!Another great update Leanne, and thanks for sharing the pictures!! They certainly brought a smile to my face!!!
Poor Hunter! That would have traumatized me too as a young child. My grandpa used to shoot his false teeth out at us and it used to scare the stuff right out of me. It is funny now but then I thought his face was falling apart.I have tears in my eyes from watching your precious little girls bring joy to those residents' day. It was just wonderful to see.
When Hunter attended private school, they would go to an assisted living facility and visit with the residents, sing to them and do crafts with them. They did this often because one of the parents actually ran the facility. Hunter loved it until........a new resident came to live there. She was wearing glasses and she bent down to hug one of the kids and her glasses fell off. And, she didn't have one eye! There was just a hole there. It caught Hunter off guard and he ran to the bathroom and threw up. He's refused to go back. Poor tramatized baby!
So true Michelle!I think that's the way it always is , when we do something like that. It makes us realize how truly blessed we are!![]()
Thanks Julia! What a great volunteer experience!
I didn't see that they were close to the 1 mil mark. I hope you can find something Stephanie! We received our vouchers yesterday morning. That was a lot faster than I expected.Your GAD program sounds like it was a great success! I bet you really made their day. Did you see that Disney has almost hit their 1 million mark? Estimates look like it will happen by March.how funny about Taylor Swift--I bet she would sure like to know his plans!! Good for you and the family for wanting to go back! I had volunteered up at a nursing home doing programs for my SIL who is a recreational therapist director--I would love to fit it back into my schedule. Wow--that is quite the spread of volunteers. I checked out the ones in my area and there is nothing like what you have done available.
Hey! LeanneHi everyone! Not much of an update....I've been neck deep in Girl Scout Cookies since Tuesday night. We have our first booth sales this weekend and I have some family cookies to deliver so it looks like we will be busy.
I had a rough day at work today. I'm strongly considering taking a PTO day for tomorrow. I've had enough for the week.![]()
