HE detergent

I keep seeing people say the HE costs more. I've had my washer since '01 and it's always been the same price as regular detergent. We bought this when we lived in Michigan and moved it with us to Indiana, still the same prices. Moved 90 minutes south (about 90 miles away).

well, apparently, i am a brainless poltroon and I have never used HE in our washer. We've had it for 1.5 yrs and i use regular detergent in it all the time with no issues so far. Of course, I skimp on how much detergent i use but still.

I didn't know any better and so far, no harm, no foul.

We have a new washer and dryer being delivered on 3/11 :woohoo:

The sales person told us that we would have to use HE detergent in it. Is this something that can be ignored or do we absolutely need to do it? :confused3

I'll be heartbroken if we have to do it since I've been stocking up on detergent and have a ton of non-HE stuff! I mean... I only paid about .25 a bottle for it... but still :scared1:

If it's a high efficiency machine, I would listen to the advice. Give your detergent to a charity.

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely donate the unopened bottles.

Now to find good deals on HE detergent... I'm allergic to most kinds of detergent, so this should be fun.

We bought the fancier washer/dryer set and it said you had to have the HE detergent or you could damage your machine. So that is the ONLY kind we buy. Not any more expensive but you have to make sure the bottle says HE. Love the new washer and dryer!! :laundy:

I would look to see if the brand you use has an HE formula.

My girlfriend used the old kind by mistake and said there were suds everywhere!!! Couldn't get them rinsed out. The HE washers use less water so they need the kind that doesn't make a lot of suds.

You might be able to exchange some, if not all, of the detergent at the store you bought them at. It might be worth a try. And alot of the HE brands do have the hypo-allergenic types. We are in the same boat here with all the allergies.

Also, I use HALF of what even the HE bottle says, since we have a water softener and the soft water makes even more suds. Just ask my DD8, who was 4 at the time. She poured a whole bottle of liquid soap into the tub!

Most repair men will tell you that the biggest problem that they have with HE machines is people who do not use HE detergent in it. And it can void your warrenty.

We use All Free & Clear HE. Buy it at Sams Club. Although, I plan to start making my own.

Well considering I used to by the huge bottles of some off brand at Walmart for $5, buying a smaller bottle of a name brand at double the price, did hit me hard at first, until I found Era and Wisk, it is still more expensive, but not as much as Tide or some of the other brands.

I use the All Free and Clear or All makes one for babies, it can be hard to find, but I use either of those because I have had some episodes of breaking out with other detergents. They both come in an HE formula.

OK That explains it. I've always used Tide or Gain and the prices were the same for regular or HE.

you may be able to exchange for HE product depending on the brand--they are now same price. I have done that a few times.

i have an HE washer/dryer 7 years and still works FANTASTIC!!! And i will never ever go back to regular washer again!!!

Good luck with it!!!
