I'm wondering if anyone has stayed in a HC room at CR? In particular, I'm wondering if the roll in shower includes a bench to sit on? My husband is a parapelgic and needs some kind of shower chair. I was hoping we wouldn't need to transport his own shower chair. Any help would be appreciated!

I can't answer your specific question about rooms at CR, but the ADA guidelines for roll in showers include a fold down shower bench, so that is one of the requirements of a roll in shower.
Some people have posted in the past that the fold down shower bench did not work for them, so if you have any concerns, you could rent a shower chair. There are some full service medical equipment companies listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread where you should be able to rent one.

We stayed at CR in Dec 2007 and didn't get the HA roll-in shower that we had booked (CM misunderstanding), but they do have tubseats available on site if the one in the roll-in shower isn't adequate, just call housekeeping and they will bring one right away (they have them with and without backs).

We had a roll-in shower at WL and the seat would have been adequate for my mom if she had traveled with us. The one at CR may be different, though.

If you haven't talked with a CM at Special Reservations, I would make sure I did soon, because I understand CR only has 2 rooms that have the roll-in showers, and the CMs at CRO might not understand what you want (based on my experience).

I would just call Special Reservations and ask if the type of shower chair you need will be provided. I've had everything from fold down benches to a very wide bench with a back, to just a bench. There shouldn't be a problem getting one from the resort if the fold down bench isn't adequate- the one you'd pay to rent will be the same type that is provided free at WDW plus you'd have the hassle of worrying about delivery.---Kathy

thanks for the information.
I knew that the WDW Guidebook indicates they can provide bath benches, but they were not clear whether that just meant the built in ones in the roll in showers. Good to hear it's better than that.

We traveled to CR in August of 2006 with my father who is a hemiplegic and we were given a roll in shower that had built in folddown bench. We were also able to request a shower chair with a back. I think that they may have borrowed it from the GF but I am not sure. We also had the same type of roll in shower setup with the additional shower chair at the GF. Good luck, I know it is not easy to travel with a paralyzed person but the hotel staff is very helpful and accomadating. I hope you both have a wonderful time.
