Has anyone ever used their points for Hawaii??? Specifically Kahalua Bay?

Thanks :goodvibes

As far as I know, there is no resort called Kahlua Bay available through DVC, but there is the Kapalua Bay available on the Concierge collection. Concierge collection trades tend to be very pricey for points. The resorts that allow direct trades through II will be more point cost efficient, but at teh Kapalua Bay, you will be able to rent individual nights. A week with an II exchange will be about 160 points for a 1 bedroom. With the concierge collection, you are mostly going to get a hotel room.

Plus it is closing fairly soon for a complete redo. I wouldn't want to stay there right before it closes and there is rumors that it won't be offered once it reopens since Marriott now owns the Ritz which also now controls Kapalua Bay. But we shall see. MS may have more info on this.

And if I'm reading the info correctly, there's only TWO places offered in all of Hawaii in the Concierge Collection?? And one of them is Kapalua Bay, which then really leaves just one choice. Bummer. Not much choice except trade thru II.

There used to be several choices through the BVTC but they went away a few years ago. But you do understand it correctly. They really are doing you a favor discouraging the use of points for this type of venture. Put in for II and see what happens. No harm in trying other than tying up $75.

My wife and I stayed at Kapalua Bay through DVC a couple of years ago and loved it. We are disappointed to hear that they are going to demolish it but that's how things go. With our points we were able to get a ocean view room. The staff was very friendly and the concierge service did a great job of helping us schedule everything. With our deal we had breakfast included at the hotel restaurant which was great. Most of our activities (snorkel, etc.) were out of Lahina which was about a 15 minute drive. We talked about going back this year to celebrate our 10th anniversary but instead decided to go to WDW.

Regards,
Marc
