What is this thing that staying at the DVC in Hawaii entails a daily transient tax depending on the points used? If I went to Hawaii and stayed at a Non-DVC resort, would I pay a transient tax there also? I never heard anyone who went there say they did...

According to several posters here (and the info that was presented when I bought Aulani) the tax is levied against all timeshare / hotel guests in Hawaii. It's just one of the taxes at the bottom of your bill. If you look through dvcnews.com (I'm turning into quite the shill for them aren't I, honestly I don't work there) they explain what the tax rate is and what the cost per night would work to be.

There is a 4.xx% tax for all hotel stays, per night, per room. This is usually calculated and paid for when you book a hotel (it's included in the taxes & fees section).

The state of Hawaii is also is charging this to timeshare stays. I've heard that its calculated on the point value x MFs. My guide says that for a studio stay, it's about $3-$4 per night (which sounds about right, since its 19 pts for a studio per night in choice season, times $4.31, times 4% = $3.27.)
