Both Ignacio and Jimena are expected to bypass Hawaii. Ship captains monitor weather systems and do whatever they can to sail around rough seas.

Our first cruise was a 3 night on the Dream and we were sandwiched between a hurricane and a tropical depression. Capt. whoever it was did a great job of keeping us in the smoothest waters possible, we had to miss Castaway Cay but he managed to avoid the really nasty stuff. Sometimes that isn't possible but they do a really good job of avoiding stuff whenever possible. With that in mind I'd probably take some extra Bonine or Dramamine if I was you.

We're on your cruise. Hopefully next week is the end of Hawaii threats. I know Jimenez is Cat 4 and expected to be a cat 5, but it will be long gone by the time we get near Hawaii. keep fingers crossed there's no more behind it. It does look like Hawaii will feel some effects from Ignacio and Jimenez , but hopefully not a direct hit by either.

**We also pack a portable, battery operated hand held fan to help combat sea sickness. They double as a really handy cooling tool on excursions. Have a WONDERful trip.

We are heading to LA on the 11th then on to Aulani on the 12th before our cruise on the 17th, fingers toes and everything else crossed that these storms all go away.

Jimena never was a threat to Hawaii, that is, none of the projected paths ever showed that storm to go toward Hawaii. Ignacio is a big storm but has turned away from Hawaii and is now heading north. Only the Big Island and Maui & Molokai are under a tropical storm watch now. They could get a lot of rain, wind and storm surges. This is a watch not a warning.

Please do not worry when you hear the sometimes crazy stuff reported by mainland weather stations regarding Hawaii. Check the Hawaii TV stations weather or hawaiiweathertoday.com as these will have much more accurate weather.

Also, for those of us heading to Hawaii for the DCL cruises in September. Do NOT let weather predictions cloud your anticipation (bad pun, I know, LOL). Hawaii has every microclimate known to meteorology except 2 as I recall. Because of the topography, trades and a multitude of factors, the forecast can vary WIDELY even on just one of the main islands. One rule of thumb for Hawaii: the windward (eastern) sides of all the islands is the rainy side whereas the leeward sides (west, where pretty much all the resorts are located) are the drier portions. Winter is rainy season in Hawaii. Hawaii is gorgeous in all her weather patterns, and it's not common for the rain to last very long in usual weather systems. Happy planning all!
