Hawaii excursions w/ non disney provider

we are going on the 10 night Hawaii cruise but have found many of the excursions sold out. we're looking for sight seeing type tours but no helicopters. suggestions of tour providers or ones to consider?

Check out TripAdvisor for each location. We rarely use DCL PAs and have done lots of great excursions this way.

Having done a Hawaii cruise, I can tell you that there are car rental companies right outside the port - very easy to walk to. We rented a car on every island and did our own thing; it was fun and easy.

We are on this cruise and have booked everything on our own. Hilo we have booked through tourbylocals. Overnight in Nawiliwili we have rented a car for both days as there is parking near port. Day 1 we are adventuring on our own and Day 2 have booked with Na Pali Excursion. Maui we have rented a car and will wait and see what we want to do after spending 6 nights there pre-cruise. I have used trip advisor a lot for planning.

May I ask if you rented a car in Hilo, too? Did you need to go to the airport to pick it up? Are there shuttles to the rental car providers? We would have loved to rent a car in Hilo, but ist seemed that we would lose a lot of time doing so. So I would be very grateful for any recommendations. Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, we did! There were car rentals at every port. I think we did Hertz? We did not go to the airport. I guess it depends on where DCL docks, but looks like at the most, the Hilo airport is 4 miles from the port, which should be a quick Uber.
