Does anyone know if DVC has started construction yet on the DVC in Hawaii? We have a planned trip for the first of August. We are staying overnight on Oahu for the sole purpose of finding the area they will be building on, then flying over the the Big Island for a week at the Mauna Lani resort. We can't wait!!! Also wondering if they have started selling points for Hawaii. We would like to add on if they are.

Thanks for all your imput :)

Contruction hasn't started yet. My boss was at the Marriott last month and he didn't see anything. I don't think you see sales starting for another 2 years. I'm looking forward to visiting the resort once it's completed.

Still nothing. I was over there last Sunday (5/18) and construction hasn't started yet. :(

Can anyone say Eagle Pines or Newport Coast, I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this.

While it may not look like it from the outside, the lagoons at Ko Olina are open to the public. Tell the guard at the gate you'd like to visit the beach and then go have fun exploring.

To me, buying a Disney timeshare outside of Orlando is like paying for oceanfront property in Arizona --except with the Arizona property you might eventually get your money's worth with a big enough earthquake.

By the way, if you're really interested in a Ko Olina timeshare make sure and check out the lovely Marriott Beach Club while you're there. Disney's so-called plans may well be just the carrot on a stick that Dean alluded to.

Yup, Eagle Pines. I too have wondered if the Hawaii DVC hasn't been put on the "to be reconsidered" pile. REALLY bad timing. Maybe Four Seasons will build this one, too.

DisFlan

The Hawaiian resort is still featured on the News section of the DVC member site. I take that to mean that it is still a go. :thumbsup2

We were there just a week ago at the marriott and I can't believe that there is enough oceanfront property for them to build the DVC there. You have the Marriott hotel, empty lot with a chapel or something on the beach at the end of this lot, the beach villas which look like privately owned condos, empty lot and then the Marriott beach club. I am shocked that they would actually build between the two Marriott's. When and if it's built I will be staying there. It's a great area.

Thanks for the link. I hope Hawaii doesn't end up like the could've beens DVC's. *crossing fingers* otherwise, the bf will probably start looking to resale since the idea of hawaii dvc was what sparked his interest in dvc. :faint: :headache:

Although I respect Dean's knowledge of DVC and other timeshares, I don't see any reason to think that Disney Vacation Development will not move forward with the DVC resort at Ko Olina.

There's no reason that construction should have started right after the announcement, because the announcement was made right after Disney purchased the property. It's not enough to have a artist's rendering of the concept. There's still the whole process of developing detailed plans, obtaining permits, getting construction bids, awarding construction contracts, and scheduling the construction.

The resort is not scheduled to open in until 2011, according to the initial announcement.

To be clear, my post was not a prediction, only to raise a question. But to explore the question, to get a hotel and timeshare built and open is going to take time. With a projected opening date of the first half of 2009 we'll have to see some type of ground action soon.

Dean,

Where did you see "a projected opening date of the first half of 2009?"

The press release said the resort is "scheduled to open in 2011," and it didn't even say when in 2011.

Sorry, intended to say 2011.

We were at the JW Marriott in mid-May and thought exactly the same thing. All the employees at the Marriott whom we asked knew about the plans and expected them to be followed through. We were told that there would be a parking structure on a lot across the street east of the ocean front property as part of the resort. Wouldn't you figure, w/ the JW and then the 2 timeshare complexes south that the DVC property once belonged to Marriott?

The property never belonged to Marriott.

The Ko Olina resort is being developed by real estate developer Jeff Stone.

Eventually, there will be around a half dozen resorts between the J.W. Marriott Ihilani (deluxe resort) at the north end and Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club (timeshare resort) at the south end.

There's only one timeshare resort at Ko Olina, not two. Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club will eventually have four buildings. There's also a new oceanfront condo complex at Ko Olina.
