I thought our room would be a family suite (for 5 people) but I was mistaken. We are staying at the PO Riverside and wasn't even going to have a fridge. We were planning on bringing things to eat in the room before and after the parks, when small 5 kids got hungry. I managed to call and get a fridge, but still no microwave or kitchenette as we thought. We have the meal plan (snack, quick service and dinner) but was planning on actually cooking mine and my husbands bfast and making the kids oatmeal/grits in the micro. Now that we have none of that, what do we do?! I can't spend on a full breakfast for 5 people (for 3 days) at the resorts when my kids are picky eaters and only eat oatmeal/grits lol!!!! This is our first time going and we leave this coming weekend.
Thanks!

The food court will have a microwave that you can use. I know its a hassle to have to take your supplies to the food court, but on the plus side they can all eat at the tables so the clean-up will be easier than eating in your room.

Oh I can handle a food court! I was told Riverside didn't have a food court, only French Quarter. I wonder if Riverside has some sort of breakfast that my husband and I could eat, and then I could fix my brought-from-home items for the kids?

We were there in June and they had many breakfast options...eggs, waffles, etc to cinnamon buns and poptarts...

Oh that's great news!!!! I wasn't given any info on my resort so I'm unsure of what to expect. Is it buffet style where you pay one fee per person or do you order from a menu (not poptarts, of course but like eggs/bacon).

It's a proper food court with many options. It is not a buffet.

In the Resorts forum there is a thriving Port Orleans Riverside thread you can check out, and the first page of it should have a link to a really good informational site all about POR. Might be good to have some sort of idea about the place you will be staying! It is really too bad the person that arranged your stay has done such a rotten job of explaining.

All star music resort has family suites, but it is probably a bit late to switch now.

You order off a menu. There are different stations (3?) where you can order different types of foods. Also a bakery station. There's fridge cases with juice and cold foods. Bins of fresh fruit.

At the gift shop there's some food items -- bread, cereal, half gallon milk that will fit in your room fridge. If you bring a supply of plastic bowls & cups you can make your own cereal/oatmeal at the food court. The food court has toasters, a microwave, a hot water dispenser, cold water dispenser, condiments and plastic silverware. You pick up your dining plan mugs at the food court (free). There's a 2-sided beverage station for your hot and cold drinks. Packaged drinks from the fridges, such as milk and juice, are not covered under the dining plan. The food court workers/cashiers can be very helpful with what-is/is-not on the dining plan. Ask about the mardi gras beads you see in the food court.

This must be overwhelming to you, because it's a lot to take in. POR is our family's favorite resort. There's a great website by a dedicated POR lover and it's all about POR and POFQ. Lots of pics and helpful maps. Perhaps you can get some familiarity with POR from there.

You can also use the coffee maker in your room to heat water for oatmeal and grits :)

We stayed at POR several years ago and loved the food court! Lots of options with helpful CMz

Thanks yall! Since this is a surprise (they don't even know they are going anywhere), I can't really look anything up at home. So my time is limited to work, who has numerous firewalls, and the darn websites get locked up! Disney.com won't even pull up on my computer :( So I have my cell, but you can imagine how small that is.

Surely they must sleep sometime! ;)

Good luck with the surprise. I always have such a hard time keeping everything secret but it really pays off when I manage it.

Happy travels!

I have to ask this even though it is sort of off topic. Have you made your TS reservations yet? If you haven't it would be a really good idea! Hope you have a wonderful trip! POR is my family's favorite resort! :goodvibes

Buy and bring a hotpot with you ($10 -$15). You cam make oatmeal or grits in it easily. 20 years ago, this was a dorm room staple in every college around the country.

TS = Table Service.

It takes a few months to get all the abbreviations down.

It's highly recommended to make those reservations prior to arrival since table service restaurants tend to book up.

Definitely if you plan on eating sit down dinners you need to get to work on some reservations ASAP. When on the dining plan we usually do a quick breakfast in the room like granola bar, bagel, pop tarts that we bring in the suit case. Then for lunch we eat an early quick service so we don't have to wait too long. Snack sometime mid afternoon and then an early sit down dinner so we have time to do fun stuff in the parks at night. Since it sounds like you haven't made any meal reservations yet you may need to be flexible and do some sit down lunches and quick dinners. Port Orleans has some really nice quick service dinner options like create your own pasta and a carving station with ham or turkey.

With the regular DDP which it appears that you have, we always do a counter service lunch and a sit down dinner, which is where you need to be sure that you have your reservations. We do a couple of different things for breakfast. Sometimes we will split a few CS meals and use a few snack credits for breakfast, other times we just do it for everyone in the room. It's really easier that way. The hot pot or request a coffee maker for your oatmeal. Stock your freg and room with some healthy-high protien food items to hold you till an early CS lunch: boiled eggs, cheese, peanut butter, bagels, muffins, cereals etc. Sometimes we bring our dessert from dinner the night before and have that for breakfast:worship:. We find with the DDP, we really do not need a ton of a snacks in the room.

we were just in WDW last month and used the coffee maker for hot water and made oatmeal a lot of the days. I also brought cereal and bowls and bought a 1/2 gallon of milk at our resort. I believe it was 3.00 both options worked great for us!
