Having the "we need more points" bug REALLY BAD!

I know I’ve said this before but IMO the sweet spot for BWV is using the points regularly during a high point season. I use my contract for Spring Break - staying at any other resort (on my list anyway!) would require many more points. So the 2042 expiration is kind of perfect - bc by that point, I won’t be limited to travel during this week anymore.

When I compare what I paid for BWV (vs Swan/Dolphin, rack rates with a discount…which you wouldn’t get during Spring Break anyway), I come out ahead.

I definitely wouldn’t want a heavy 2042 portfolio, but to complement one with longer expirations/specific use cases it definitely works!
That’s a good strategy! i’m not nearly that smart when it comes to using my points!

The headache alone of trying to get bcv may be worth the premium 🤯 i haven't seen what booking at 7 months and waitlisting at 7 months is like but if I love bcv I would definitely be running the math 🤣🤣

My Mom bought 200 SSR points in 2006. Cruised in 2007 and added on another 115 SSR points whilst aboard, same UY.

Thankfully she put me on the title. When she passed in 2017, I inherited the contracts.

So we have 315 points and don’t plan on adding on. It has been plenty for DH and I, as well as being financially manageable with maintenance fees 🫶

I’m a quality over quantity type of guy.
With BWV it seems like you are looking at somewhere around $20pp per year at least (depending on dues) when you add the buy-in cost plus dues. Maybe it's worth it.
If I can get into a 1BR villa every now and then using my current direct points, I'd probably be fine with that. After all, that's exactly what is happening for my October trip.
If I'm totally blown out of the water by the vibe of the resort it might sway me to buy a small contract :)

150 pts @ $105pp is $14.88pp over the life (not factoring in dues increases)
You're welcome :wave2:

Edit: I edited to update to 14.88 vs 14.85 because I originally pulled my sheet with old dues. So this last round of dues increase for 2025 increased overall cost pp 3 cents, which is interesting info in itself. Double you're welcome

*My numbers are estimates and may vary based off specifics of contract purchased*

There are a LOT of Pool/Garden view 1bd rooms.

However, we want the 2BD BW view and you usually need to be an owner to get those…

Yeah, that's the thing, if I can get into a 1BR at 7 months I'm ok.
Don't the 1BR get sucked up as 2BR Lock-offs?
Some do, some don't. 1BRs are fairly easy to get, especially P/G view. Much easier than studios or 2br

I try for BW view myself and when I can get the 1BR BW view at 7 months I book it and save my BW points for later. The BW view is incredible and the best view I have found/seen at WDW IMO. I just love all of the crescent lake area

Oh, I see we are "chatting" 🤣
I never get deals that good!
Occasionally deals do come across. More than BCV from what I have seen. Originally I was looking for BCV but never found any deals so I bought BWV when I found one at $99/pt. Since I was already buying a 2042 resort I decided didn't want to pay the extra 30-ish percent to get BCV instead.

Yep, I just pulled out my old math - my 2025 cost including dues is $14.15 up from
$13.77 last year (thank you fully loaded contract gods!!) - this is on 150 pt-er.

Are you assuming a fully loaded contract? Or are you counting 2042. Remember that nobody gets 2042 points and the last year of points will be the 2041 use year points

105pp today on a contract that has full 2025 points would be $15.23ish pp after dues for the 2025 year by my calculations (17 years of points). 14.88pp for 2025 would need an extra year of points so it would be correct for a banked fully loaded contract or I suppose a late 2024 use year contract with full 2024 points still on it

My $99 contract only had 17.425 years of points so my calculations are 14.74 for my 2025 points after dues

DH put together the spreadsheet I will have to ask if he accounted for 2042 not having points. It's very possible he didn't. We would never buy a stripped contract and our goal is a DEC UY thats what we base our sheets off of.

I will add a disclaimer that my numbers are estimates and may vary based off specifics of contract purchased.

I think the main point is that it’s not $20pp for buy in and dues unless you are adding a TVM component.

I looked at my recent purchase as break even vs renting with t-bill TVM, but with control and flexibility.

Yeah they still have some value if you love the area and want to stay there a lot , but the math gets a little worse each year and will likely change in a few years and anyone buying at that point may just want to consider renting unless either the resale price starts to tank or the rental prices skyrocket

I was able to get the pool/garden view for September after looking for one day at 4 months, bcv is another story 🤯

That’s making some assumptions about renting which may or may not hold.

There are a LOT of BWV renters though… so the prices would come under serious pressure if Disney did a serious commercial renter crackdown.

Not going to worry about it, going to ride these into the ground.

True, true. I also plan on riding this one into the ground as well

But I could be convinced to offload my BWV and buy some more direct points if there was another new Crescent Lake (BCV tower?) or an Epcot DVC announced!

ETA: Or if some other DVC was announced with a dedicated entrance to pretty much any WDW park lol
