Thanks to everyone who replied last week! So nice to hear a positive response. I've been a little skeptical about our purchase. It seems that some family members (not on my side of the family ;) don't really understand why we would want to vacation at the same place (and I KNOW we can go elsewhere..but we bought for Disney) every year. I'm trying to convince them that it was a wise move, but I'm beginning to have second thoughts. Reassurance? Does the Disney magic fade after a few years??? What about when my daughter grows up?? I know, I know, it's so far in the future....but these are the thoughts that keep me up at night. I made the right decision, right??

Well, I've been going to Disney parks as often as possible since I was 4...I'll be spending my 50th birthday with the Mouse this December, so the magic hasn't worn off yet!

I truthfully go to WDW for my own enjoyment as well as my sons'. My husband and I definitely plan to continue utilizing DVC even after the children are grown.

I can't speak from experience as far as whether or not the magic ever dies, because I have only been going for 5 years. But I do know that we love Disney, and there are so many wonderful things for adults to do there that one day we will take advantage of.:)

hi: you want to know if the magic fades as they get older? my oldest son gets married this august and guess where they're spending all 10 days of their honeymoon? our youngest is 14 and still thinks wdw is okay but wants to do disneyland and the california adventure next year or maybe europe. that's the great thing about dvc-it's not just for wdw.

We have been going to WDW since 72 and the magic has not faded!!! Our grandchildren are now enjoying the magic, we have been DVC members for all most 10 years, and we still get a thrill out of visiting OKW, at least once if not twice a year!! We have friends that ask why do you go to WDW each year, I ask them why they go to the sea shore every summer? It's what you enjoy doing! so just do what you want to do, if you enjoy it, then do it!!!!

We get that from some family members quite often too. Usually from members of my wife's extended family. You need to do what is right for you. I don't listen to those people. Sometimes I chalk it up to jealousy, or perhaps just misunderstanding. A trip to Disney World, especially when you have the priveledge of using the DVC, doesn't always have to include marathon trips to the theme parks. Walt Disney World even without the parks is a world class resort. Sometimes we spend days just relaxing or resort hopping or even doing other things in the area. I have been going to Disney World almost every year since 1976 and often times more than once per year. I have never gotten bored with it. We joined the DVC in 1992 and have never regretted it. I think if some of these relative saw the level of accomodations they would understand.

My son is 18 years old, was 7 when we first went -he's not tired of it yet! I agree with the poster that says it's a vacation at a first class resort. You could go there and never set foot in the park and it would be great (I haven't tried that yet, but it's a good theory). Beautiful rooms, great service, gorgeous flowers, pools, music, clubs, entertainment - and all before you set foot in the park.

We took our first trip to Vero in May - another great reason to be part of DVC. It was a wonderful resort and obviously, without a theme park.

I think the biggest reason that DVC is a wise decision- whatever age you are, whatever you're in the mood for, DVC can supply it.

I'm 42 and was never a Mousekateer or anything like that. I actually know very little about the history of Walt Disney. Our first trip was in '95, CBR and we loved it. Went back in '98,PO. While there we bought at OKW and earlier this month added VWL. We can't see ourselves ever getting bored or tired of going to WDW. Only wish I had more then 4 weeks vacation a year. I'm confident you'll never regret your purchase but always remember that you can sell it at any time. Chances are the worst you'll do is break even. Relax and enjoy yourself.

The Magic does't fade. It just gets stronger with time. Beleive me, your family in time will see what a smart move you made.

I think if you're only joining to take the kids to WDW....and don't totally enjoy it there yourself...then perhaps its a mistake. But if you're like my dh and I, who took our first WDW trip together for our honeymoon almost 10 years ago (and I, at the time, was a non-believer....a skeptic....I didn't want to go to WDW for my honeymoon!) and have been trying to go back as often as possible ever since...then DVC is a great thing. Our only regret is that we couldn't join when we first heard of DVC on our trip in 1994.

I'm sure we all have family and/or friends that have NO IDEA why we go to Disney every year... The fact is, we go, and we've gone for years! If you go every year or even every other I wouldn't worry, DVC is a great deal & you made the right choice... Our children are still young, so I can't really answer your question about your daughter... But I wouldn't worry about your purchase... there is plenty of stuff to keep you busy in Orlando for many many years to come!!!

My first three times to WDW I was 6,8, and 12. My next time after that I was 24. I was 26 when I joined DVC.

Its werid but I think I enjoy WDW more now then when I was younger. I 28 now, married with no children (Yet). ;)

My mom says the same thing to me, to this day, and we bought a few years back. But she also is the sort that will stay in New England forever, she went to Disney once with us back in 1976 and hated it, hot and crowded and not her own bed.

What I love is watching my kids grow through the interests at Disney. Every single time we go down there they want to do something different...a different attraction captures their imagination...a different ride is the one we must go on several times. Watching their imagination evolve is never ending, and I absolutely treasure it. We started when they were 1 and 3, then 3 and 5, 5 and 7 and now this time 7 and 9. They want to go to Epcot first this year, pushing MK out of first place, and I'm so excited for August! :bounce:

As for when they get older...they're already planning trips where they can ask friends along, and they want us to "just go and relax" while they hit the parks.

We also use our membership to take our families on vacations with us. :)

Hi V,
I've been going to WDW since 1976 when I was 18 and still love it. 25 years later my wife and I take our daughter at least once maybe twice a year if we can. When we first joined DVC our families thought we were NUTS,that was until my sister in law tried to take her four kids this year to a budget ( All Stars ) and could not afford it. Guess who's coming down in August with us sharing a 2 bedroom. Now the family thinks this may be the best thing since sliced bread and her family is thinking about membership too. So put your mind at ease you did the right thing and will continue to enjoy WDW for many years to come

I have friends and aquaintances who sort of roll their eyes at my Disney obsession and I don't even attempt to explain it to them. I joined DVC for ME (before we had a baby) and it's something I know I'll never regret. The fact that that there are folks out there that don't think as highly of Disney as I do doesn't bother me. These same folks think nothing of going to the beach three times a year and that would bore me out of my mind!

Get the drift? Who cares what "they" think!???

Have a Disney day!!

I first went to WDW in 1972, at the age of 6, and various times throughout childhood, brought my wife there (for her first time there) for our honeymoon in 95, back this year and into DVC. For me it just gets better and better, and we haven't even stayed in the wonderful DVC accomodations yet!!!

Our "kids" are now 26 and 32. We have gone to WDW since they were little, and now we go for us! The magic never wears off, because it is Disney magic!

My wife and I have been going for a combined total of over 15 years and now our little boy adds such a new dimension to the trip. We love watching him enjoy "The Magic".

But think about it, where else can you go to have theme park fun, parades, fun-filled resorts, enjoy different types of firework displays (EVERY NIGHT), family memories, the ever-expanding WDW, potentially great vacations across the US and the world, etc., etc., etc... all with Disney quality and service? (Is this sounding like a DVC infomercial or what?)

Anyway, you get the point. True, there are other places to see no doubt. But if you are someone who loves vacationing at WDW and you know you'll be spending money there quite often, DVC is the way to go. You'll be able to stay in the Park, at deluxe resorts, for 41 years, at the same value, and use your vacation money for fun!

Our family has always enjoyed visiting Disney and we just joined in April at the Boardwalk. We are all older now but know that we will enjoy all the times we spend together vacationing. And in 40 years when we are all older I am sure that I will love to bring my children and possibly grandchildren away on a vaction in style to one of the DVC resorts! I am sure that your daughter will cherish the membership and the gift of all the vacation memories she has of spending time with her family. Take Care, Tammy:smooth:

I am Norm's daughter, bored and reading some postings on this lovely morning. I am a 15 year old who loves WDW, I have been going since I was 4 months old, and I am soon to be 16 in a few weeks. My family has gone twice a year since, if not more. With DVC (which we have been part of for 2 years) I have enjoyed a wonderful trip to England and France (to Disneyland Paris, stayed on grounds). If our signature at the end of every post had every trip to WDW, it would go on forever. I love Disney, my 12 year old sister loves Disney. I often tell my parents how I plan to use MY DVC when I get older ;)...So no, the magic doesn't fade. I appreciate new things every time I go. We have met wonderful people and definitely enjoyed our times. I am now trying to convince my parents to take the trip to California, we need to experience that! And I feel my parents enjoy it, every corner we turn there is another memory. Trust me..you will enjoy it. I can't enjoy it enough, I want to move there! So if my opinion stands for anything, still being in my childhood, I think you will be in an alright position. Good luck!
