You can lunch in the pub part of the R&C, which is nice, sit or stand, lots of brass railings, great looking bar or in the dining rm or out on the terrace, which as OP said, affords a lovely view. the interior of the R&C is wonderful--all rich woods, gorgeous 'coffered' ceiling
You'll get some mixed reviews, but for us it's a must each time we go. So far, we really like all the food, but we do have favorites. We go for lunch.
I like the Guiness Beef Stew, DS17 likes the pasty or bangers & mash, DH favors the shepard's pie. the fish & chips are super. We like to share the cheeses & crackers appetizer--love the Stilton! DH likes their flight of beers--this sampler comes in 2 sizes. try the hard cider, yummy, not too sweet. The dessert sampler is excellent & we all share it.
You can also grab a smaller portion of fish & chips at the Yorkshire County Chip shop, which is the UK's cs. If you can go grab a table in the small garden in back of the shops--lovely spot
