Having guests at the resort pool

LIFERBABE,

I'm not sure that I or anyone could have an issue with someone doing that with a DVC room as long as they truly stay within the occupancy limits (including a one-to-one match between EVERY guest using the resort facilities and the room keys--i.e., no us four/eight/twelve will use the pool in the morning and you four/eight/twelve use it in the afternoon). If people want to use points or cash to rent a room for the day and stay somewhere else, I guess I don't have an issue with that.

You do know there are people that get like a studio at BW or BC for 5 nights excluding weekends then actually stay off property with say 8-12 guests. They use the room as a place to crash during the day, store things and as an access to the pool. They frequently use valet parking to access the system as their park parking. I don't know how widespread it is but I know a number of people have done it this way in some form or another. One variation has a couple of people staying in the room and the rest off site. IMO, Disney should police the pools far better than they do. If they do not, Pool Hopping will be gone forever. We've already seen SAB removed and almost a yearly increase in the number of blackout times. We're up to 7 now totally about 2 months of the year.

This is a perfect example of why I will never be wealthy, as I could never be this "cheap". If this was the only way I could vacation I would rather stay home.

I agree in general and to me being off site is like being a half mile or more from the Beach. But some prefer it and it fits their needs. Actually I feel the same way as you stated about people who stuff over the occupancy limits but that's another 20 page discussion isn't it, LOL. And while I know certain members of this board scoffed when I suggested we'd see members buying small DVC contracts mainly to get the perks, I've already seen that as well. And they will likely be one and the same group as those staying off site with a studio here and there for pool access and the like.

Well Dean, as usual you knew what you were talking about this. As this topic was posted on the Resorts boards. It is no wonder the units take a beating. BCV probably is the hardest hit.

IMHO, the above link should be REQUIRED READING for anyone who discusses Occupancy, Pool Hopping or Poor Room Condition. It may be an extreme case (10 adults & 9 children sharing a OKW "lock-off" for day use and resort benefits only) but it does happen; and - I suspect - more often than we would imagine....

IMHO - YMMV

I guess I was just naive, when I read Dean's take on this, I went surely no one truely does this.

Well, my eyes were opened, too. As much as I have argued that there are people out there scamming the system, I never imagined it was as bad as this indicates!

I am stunned. Thank you for your insight (I think). I agree, that thread should be brought up in every one of those occupancy debates.

LOL, you guys think I'm cynical, but I'm just realistic and practical. It'll sure make you wonder next time I post something you don't quite believe or agree with.

First to the original poster thanks for asking!

You can see you hit one of the holy grails of questions regarding DVC. This thread will soon be locked and another innocnent person will ask a similar question soon and it will start again.

I guess I never doubted you Dean, actually when I first saw you post that theory, I thought it could happen - although I think it's a waste of money.

These people saw it as a way to use up their II certificate.

My brain is hurting trying to rationalize how this abuses the property - 19 people - rotating in shifts thru the day. Not really 19 all at once. No one sleeping there say from 11pm to 7am. Under normal circumstances, you would have four in there from 11-7 and not much during the day. Use of facilities, pool, parking etc. for 19 people on a rotating basis.

I definately don't like it. And the fact that it's an II member doing it - not a DVC member makes it worse - what do they really care about the property? And that it sounds like they don't think that OKW is on property - they just sound really undereducated about the whole thing.

JMHO

This is just one example. And in a way they do all use the property. Not every guest from any unit is at the pool, parks, restaurant, etc at the same time. So if they are there during the day they are ALL using the facilities in my book. Obviously some of this can be absorbed by the resort but there is a breaking point which is easily reached during peak times even without room stuffing.

I agree with Dean. In the extreme, it would be theoretically possible to overwhelm all of the resorts facilities with just a handful of rooms doing this.

I just want to comment that after seeing SAB last week, and it's many guests at the pool, I can't imagine there being enough room for additional guests, especially during busier seasons. Of course, half of the pool was being refurbished, but it was supposedly a 'slower' time to be at WDW. I will be a DVC member soon, and just thought about how crowded SAB will be during the Spring Break Holiday throughout the summer season! On the days we decide to go to the the pool, we'll be there as early as possible with everyone's room key! :flower:

I understand completely. Last summer we used the pool very little there as it was so crowded.
