OK girls, I've got big news! DH said last night it would be nice to stay at the GF for our 10th anniversary! :cool1: It's a year and a half away but I want to plan it all now!

So, is there a room that is a step above a GV King with out being in concierge? I'm an on the go girl and can't stand the thought of hanging around the hotel and I would feel like I needed to if I were in concierge..... Kinda like the people Channing's talking about :rotfl:

Mandy...I feel like a brat but that is what I was told by the CMs...they say there is a difference. Now, somebody on the GF thread would say they are only telling me that to keep my business in RPC, but that's NOT true. I have been told that by the RPC lounge staff, too, and told by them that they don't care to work SL and for those reasons....why would they care if they keep my business or not? Same with the concierge staff...what do they care? If it's not me staying there somebody else will be. RPC has become difficult to book.

I (me personally;) ) would either do a GV or RPC room. That is MY opinion....if you want concierge, SL is nice & you will have the service and continental bfast, but now that we've stayed RPC we LOVE it.:lovestruc :lovestruc During our SL stay we didn't see any bad behavior. (for all teh times we've stayed RPC, we've seen some there...not a lot, but a couple incidents) The food was not as plentifully stocked in SL as it is in RPC - but then again RPC is usually empty. I am sure it depends on the crowd and time of year, too. It wasn't like there was a food shortage in SL, but there wasn't the plentiful look to it. Also, the staff wasn't the same - they were constantly switching....they do have regulars in there now, but back when we stayed thre weren't. So the SL staff has definitely improved.:thumbsup2

:) I don't mean to sound uppity or anything - and maybe it is coming across like that - it is just what I was told and I believe it because I know and like the sources....and there was more than ONE source. I am not a total MUST HAVE CONCIERGE freak:scared: , either. I have tried it in almost all the WDW hotels and others and GF RPC is the only WDW "must" for us. I am staying YC standard....I don't care for any other concierge at WDW.

He made this face in every picture:rotfl:

The bride showed me the wedding pictures and we (bride included) thought it was hilarious...... I apologized at first but then she told me her Hubby and her couldn't stop laughing when they got the proofs back. Her mom on the other hand....... My son "ruined" the day! I guess if their marriage fails it's his fault:rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl: too bad! I love it!!! Boys are so funny.... :thumbsup2

Girl, don't apologize! If any one would know it's you, especially with all your connections at the GF! :thumbsup2 See you like the RPC and I can't live with out the DDXDP! :rotfl: Love my signature restaurants!

So anything better than a GV king room would only be found in SL concierge or RPC? I'm wanting a room for our "anniversary moon" that is nice for a romantic weekend and am not sure of what to ask for. We would like some privacy and I just don't want to be sandwiched by two family's with kids....... if you know what I mean! :rolleyes1

Mandy, I am not sure because I never get to go sans kids.

They have a honeymoon floor but its' RPC...it's on teh second floor over Gaspies and the rooms have a direct view of the castle....they are in their own little separate wing so it's kind of peaceful...the rooms here only have king beds so no families w/screaming crabby overtired kids nearby.

I know Angela stayed in a king room in Sago overlooking the marina. That was a GV room. I believe it was also a dormer room. (top floor, high ceilings, solid balcony rail) I think KING rooms are limited at the GF, too. The only way to solidify that you get a KING room is to book a deluxe king concierge room....it would either be on that 2nd floor of the main building or it could be (and this is even BETTER!) one of the turret rooms of the main building - a super large room.:goodvibes

I do sound bratty:guilty: ...I went and edited a bit. I am just sick of that person on the GF thread and I think the truth never hurts anybody. The info is probably just CMs opinions, too, but they have it for a reason. KWIM? I know Brook is staying there and I feel like a jerk writing about it like that but knowledge is power......If I really wanted concierge at the GF and RPC wasn't available would I do SL?? YES!!!:thumbsup2

Channing~ thanks for giving me the heads up on SL. I am not using it for the free food (well okay maybe breakfast...) but I am really a room service kind of gal in the morning :thumbsup2

I didn't see the need for RPC for just her and I... if all 5 of us were going then maybe but not just for the 2 of us... remember this is supposed to be my cheap trip :rotfl2:

Maybe I will kiss enough butt and get upgraded to RPC :rotfl: :rotfl: but I won't go stomp on anyone's parade if I don't :thumbsup2 it does stink that people can be like that. I feel bad for those Cm's... they take so much "stink" from guest, its a wonder they don't completely lose their temper sometimes!

Mandy~ your son is adorable!!!!:goodvibes

I don't think your a brat Channing! i have stayed at nice resorts all over the world, some concierge, some not.
I don't expect the same level of service at Disney as I get while staying at the Peabody in Memphis... KWIM?

I just want a magical time without all the rude nasty people constantly pushing and shoving me and my little angel. If this means room service breakfast... guess what?! my behind will be calling PD :rotfl:
I like having the option of grabbing a drink in the lobby on the way out or Savannah getting her bowl of cereal and OJ ...and some pastry or whatever she wants that morning.... but I DON'T HAVE TO DEPEND ON EATING THERE OR WE STARVE kind of mentality. popcorn::
I didn't know there were a lot of SL upgrades though HEY WHY DIDNT I GET ONE IN FEB?!?!??!!?!??! :rotfl2:

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of the RPC only for the fact that it would be a way to make up for our "Honeymoon on a penny"

We got married the day before my 19th birthday and we were both going to school full time and working full time to pay for school and ramen noodles!:rotfl: We had an awesome wedding but my mom got really sick 6 months before I got married and was in and out of the hospital and ended up in the hospital for 3 straight months. My parents had to empty the saving account to make up for the loss of income so my husband and I stepped up and paid for the rest of the wedding. We gave up having a nice honeymoon and went to Disney instead. Let me tell you what those were the days, I was young and dumb!

We stayed at a nice DTD hotel for two nights and could see Illuminations from the balcony, we just hung around DTD and our room that weekend. We had to come home on Monday because we had finals on Tues-Thursday. We took our finals and headed back to Disney on Friday for a week but this time we stayed at the Comfort INN near DTD, you know the one on the interstate that has the big sign that flashes! :scared1: It was $39 a night! :scared: All night you could hear semis zoom passed in the I4. And Brook you'll love this: We took stuff to make sandwiched and milk and cereal for breakfast, we were on a budget and ate at places like olive garden and red lobster for dinner. If only I had thought of a George forman then :lmao:

Now that I think about our honeymoon, I think it's about time for A RPC king room! I got to make up for that cheap honeymoon :thumbsup2

*Off to shower after thinking about that gross room!*

When did we start tip toeing around Brook? :rotfl: On second thought, mabey we should. I hear she can be pretty rough, you know shes almost been banned :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm afraid of her.:rotfl: :rotfl: Besides, I didn't mention WHO that unfriendly presence on the GF thread IS, did I?:rotfl2: ;) ;)

Brook, I KNOW YOU"RE NOT LIKE THAT!!!
:rotfl:

Ya, I have really never gotten an upgrade until we started being regulars at the Gf.....we were regulars at the CR concierge for YEARS and we were stupid and paid full price, too! NO upgrades there EVER. And I think we kissed some butt.:rotfl: :confused3
(JK;) )

My W/D came!!!!! It looks awesome....now to figure out how to use them....:rotfl: The nice guy started them up for me to check them and they have to run a certain amt of time empty first....so that's done...it was cool because thye have these little musical beeps when you push the buttons!!! OMG>...this is kind of scary for an UNtechie like ME!!!! They look great, though.:thumbsup2 I did tip. They were three nice Mexican guys and I didn't even expect them to hook it all up - I thought DH was gonna do that and they were friendly so all I had was a $20....when I handed it to one guy he said "Are you sure?" and I said YA! Go buy some lunch. :thumbsup2 Now I need to go sort my MEGA PILES OF LAUNDRY and read the manuals!!
(bummer)

channing--ok now I feel nervous....we were upgraded to SL in Sept cause we wanted Boca Chica but it was being renovated. So it was a nice surprise....the only thing I thought was annoying was the peeps who let their kids scream and yell up and down the hallways and in the lounge at 7AM! CM's were nice, etc......SO now my mom is giving us a trip for my grad from college and we were given the choice of RPC or SL and we chose SL cause its close to the pool, plus we thought it might be loud staying in the main lobby. Should we change?? I am not a snob, :snooty: BUT for that kind of money, I dont want to be around horders, Im entitled type of people. (although i didn't see it in Sept). Plus we are staying during Thanksgiving and i expect it to be busy. So....give it to me, your the expert!

Thanks! :flower3: Dawn

PS...I am loving the weather today :) nothing like the sun to make you feel better....and the bird flying into the window cracks me up

Dawn, I can tell you what Channing is going to say....... but I will let her do it:lmao:

I'm going to assume RPC cost more than SL, right? Anyone know about how much more?

I am happy to report, that my cabanas are booked and I am DONE!!!!:cool1:

The kids have no school Thursday and Friday (catholic holiday and snow day) and I can sleep in.

Kelly - Welcome home, your children are beautiful. I love your sons mouth in picture from cali grill with the dessert sushi...too cute!!!

My DS's confirmation was beautiful, I am so proud!!! He looked so old in his suit and tie. My Dh kept saying the next time is his wedding...I wanted to throw up!!!:scared1:

Congrats on the cabana rentals and on your DS's confirmation!

My son was in a wedding this last fall and I got that same feeling! I cried when he walked down the aisle with the flower girl because I had a flash forward to him getting married and me loosing my baby boy

Now for his true colors:
l_e39f8d40cd989223c3e8a4d149b8b928.jpg

By the way, his eyes are normal but he's not! HA! HE kept rolling one eye in during the pictures and ruing the shots, the bride told me there was not one shot of him looking "normal"

What a cutie patootie! I also love his curls!

Channing -- I've heard some of the same things about SL. I've enjoyed staying there several times before I went over to the "dark" side of high priced RPC (which I'm now addicted to!). We were upgraded several times to SL when we were on DCL (in cat. 2 and cat. 3). At first I was upset, as the view was more important to me and I loved getting castle in Conch. Then, as the kids got older I decided there was something to be said for the convenience of food almost at my door. Now, there's no going back and I'll take RPC everytime it's available. And, SL if I can't get RPC, but I also still love Conch and that wonderful view. I wanted to assure you that you're not the only one that's had that SL conversation with CMs and been told similar things.

I just got back from a meeting at the school for parents of 5th graders about going in to Middle School. :scared1: Boy do I feel old. I'm not looking forward to the conversation with my DS about how he'll have to wear dress shoes instead of sneakers next year.

OK, Marci...the thing is when we stayed SL I didn't see any bad behavior or anything like that at all, but I did notice from stayin RPC that the lounge service (refilling the trays etc) is not up to RPC. It's been a while, so maybe that's changed, but it's been recent conversations with CMs.....maybe they have just seen it all so they get funny about situations & things stick in their minds.;)

Dawn, I can tell you what Channing is going to say....... but I will let her do it:lmao:

Duh....RPC if it's a gift!:rotfl: :rotfl: I gag on the price tag before every stay. It's overly priced for sure. I don't ever feel "ripped off" though after a stay in RPC. It is just a really REALLY pleasant place to be.:goodvibes :lovestruc

Dawn, for sure if somebody else is paying, RPC all the way. :goodvibes :thumbsup2 ESPECIALLY during Thanksgiving!!! :santa: You can hear the Xmas music they play live in the lobby, while sitting and sipping cocktails up above in the lounge...the smell of gingerbread fills the air......plus you might have a great castle view and can sit on your balcony and watch WIshes.....:cloud9: BUt, as I said it isn't cheap....and there's no guarantees it will be fabulously worth the cost. Too bad there's not a refund policy. Like I said, I choke on the cost before every trip and I have gotten to the point where we don't do a whole week to10 day RPC stay anymore. THe cost has gotten out of hand IMO. BUt it has been LOVELY for us.

I am headed out for a walk! Got the first of many loads in the washing machine....i have an unbelievable pile of clothes to do.:scared:

Dawn, if it is a gift, RPC all the way!

We've never stayed in SL, but we saw the "entitled hoarders" at BWI and AKL concierge. :sad2: After a while, it makes you not want to be in the lounge at all

Gosh Channing, since we both heard the same thing, it's got to be true, huh? ;) :rotfl: I stayed in SL before I ever stayed in RPC, so I have nothing to compare it too, but again, I liked SL and would do it again.

Mandy -- being there without kids would certainly seem like a Disneymoon to me. I hope that whatever you decide, you have a terrific trip. The closest I'll probably get to an adult trip would be another conference trip, but I'd be without DH. I just don't have back-up help now that Mom has passed.

Channing- Enjoy the laundry. I love the little music the buttons makes but unfortunately so does dd age3. I purchased the protection plan just because of her little fingers.

Brook- All I can say is :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

O.k. about this RPC vs SL thing. We are going at Xmas and I hate to admit that my SL price is about $775 a night. RPC is around $1000. (I could save $200 a night and just stay GV which I have thought about) I have switched several times...just ask my TA;) The reason I chose SL is because of the help with ADR's since it is the week of Xmas, help getting gifts to the resort etc and also for the snacks for the kids. It is not like they eat much but they snack..ALL OF THE TIME!

I am just going to throw this out there....do you think it will be too uppity (sp?) this week. I mean $1000 per night is a lot of money and I do not want to be around a bunch of uptight people the entire time but then again I do not want to be down with the SL food horders either. What to do...What to do:confused3

Everything she said~me too! I am shaking my head because we had the chance to book AAA for that time...I dont know if it is available anymore. Plus can we sleep 5? AHHHHHHHHH!! Oh well, if it isn't to be then it isn't....it will still be nice to be at GF SL!:goodvibes
Now if I could just find airfare! (not to keep harping on this issue)

Vanessa -- we arrived on Dec. 27th last year, and didn't feel like the people were too uppity. By that I mean that we're just regular people, nothing fancy, and didn't feel out of place. I did see quite a few non-US, and heard many different langues spoken in the lounge. There was a large group of the Osborne family, but they weren't snobby. Because the parks were so crowded, we went early, took breaks mid-day, and spent more time at the resort than we normally do. That is a huge difference in pricing -- when it's written out in black and white it's scary. I know it's stupid, but I try not to look at the pricing for individual nights/categories, as that's a really large number for a nightly fee. I guess I use the theory that if I don't actually see the nightly rate, maybe it's not too bad... Like I said, stupid...

I don't know.....I am sure we heard it from the same CMs, haha;) ....I also heard it from several of the nice lounge ladies, though.:confused3 I am sure there are bad apples in every crowd.....I LAUGH at some of teh stuff we've seen on a few trips in RPC lounge and in the hallways.

I am actually enjoying the laundry!! I love those cute buttons.:goodvibes I am sure that novelty will wear off quickly though once I get past my 1oth load here. I have a monstrous pile and it's only from mine and DH's room....I have three slobby kids with laundry baskets and hampers fully loaded.

We paid the $1000/nt during Easter. No uppity people - well, cough cough, there were a FEW actually. Just a handful....most are SUPER NICE.:thumbsup2 I really only witnessed them being "UPPITY" to the concierge CMs....which is just plain WRONG since they are the most awesome Disney CMs around.... I have seen and met some of the NICEST people in RPC.(Myra and Angela and Kelly:) ) Some guests have gone out of their way to be so nice to us.....given up tables, gave my girls balloon bouquets when they were checking out - not just a couple balloons, either -some of those $16 ones mixed in!! :goodvibes They've been given pins by bigtime pin traders staying RPC. Jojo always meets nice kids in the kid area (that is one of her favorite things to do - hang out there by the tV and color or play Polly's with other kids) and DH has made friends from around the world. :)

We did Xmas 2 yrs ago, and while the rate wasn't quite was it is nowadays(it was still gag worthy), there were some uppity types there. :sad2: We witnessed a few incidents......I guess if people are paying that much and have no manners they will definitely feel ENTITLED probably no matter where you are.....tough call. As a matter of fact that XMas stay was the worst as far as BRATTY piggy guests go. :sad2: After that stay we all thought it was a "different" crowd at the GF and we were disappointed. But we still went back and really found that that one stay was isolated as far as the piggy brats go. I LOVED RPC during Xmas....during Thanksgiving AND during Easter. ....and looking forward to it over July 4th, too!:goodvibes

Happy planning.....I am making myself long to go over Thanksgiving or Xmas jsut thinking about it.:)
