MandyMommy4...How old are your kids? I know you must have your hands full esp if you are already homeschooling some of them. At least mine are spread out in age. I only have 2 students now. Being a homeschool mom is a tough job and I salute you

DS 5, DD, 4,3,2

Yea, its crazy. I only HS my son for now. We actually finished up in March and have been on break, well we still do a lot of reading and phonics but not a full curriculum in the spring. We will start back in June and then work all summer. Fla is just so hot in the summer it's not bearable to be outside unless your in a pool so we take the spring time off instead! Hey, you can do that when you HS!

What curriculum do you use?

We are going to be doing A Beka DVD this next year! I am excited because it cuts down the prep for me and I don't have to sit with him and instruct! I honestly had it in my heart to do unit studies and we started with FIAR (Five in a Row) Not good for DS learning style, he really does better with A BEKA. I hate all the prep the you need for A Beka, I feel like i have to study for an hour every night before I teach him the next day, and that was for Kindergarten! I still do FIAR for our family reading and we do a few projects and it gives us an excuse to go to EPCOT for field trips to explore the WS!

By the way our preacher and his wife are from Arkansas and moved down here 10 years ago. Their youngest son is graduating and she has home schooled him the ENTIRE way! HE is so smart and almost has a AA from the community college because he dual enrolled the past two years! He got almost his entire degree FREE! Fla is a great home schooling state!

I have used several different things over the years but primarily ABeka. I never did video in younger grades because you had to do a whole grade at a time and sometimes my kids were on one level in math, another in language, etc. But I did use several video courses for the older grades like Chemistry, Biology, Algebra II, etc.

I also pay no attention to the regular school calendar: that sorta defeats the purpose of homeshool if you ask me...lol. We go for a while then take breaks when convenient.

Homeschooled children usually really do well in college. I took my daughter out of private school after 5th grade and homeschooled her until she entered college on a full scholarship. She graduates with her masters in Occupational Therapy in August.

My 18 year old son attended private Kindergarten and I have homeschooled him ever since. He has just been accepted to Belmont University in Nashville, TN and will be a freshman there in August. He's already taken some College Algebra and Spanish here at a local community college.

My two youngest sons age 9 and 11 have never been in school and never will (God willing) unitl they go to college.

Hey Dawn! I am having a terrible time finding airfare. Still in the $500 plus range. I have tried Chicago and St. Louis. We normally fly out of Bloomington which is always a little more expensive but is worth it since we do not have to drive.

I am getting too excited. If it would ever get warm here that may help. Our weather just stinks. This has been the longest Spring/Winter ever!!

I have not checked the thing about the hours. I know if they do not have Nov they will not have Dec for awhile.

Hope you gals have a good day!!

That stinks!! (can I send my hubby with him:lmao: )

I am busy with thing dang puppy. It feels like I just gave birth to another child. She is a lot of work!

I am having 12 little 7-8 year old girls spend the night this weekend for dd's B-day. Please pray for me!

I will! I will not get pets as I know I would be the one taking care of it.
I am getting Shawn ready for school now and then I have a bunch of stuff to do today.

Hey everyone, just popping in to say hi! I've been so busy lately but still find the time to constantly think about our upcoming trip! LOL

Hey MandyMommy & PoohGirl --- add us to the list of homeschoolers that love the Grand!I wish we lived closer so we could visit more frequently. I'm really wanting to plan another December trip --- but trying to resist the temptation.

We always take off December so we do all of the fun holiday things in town. My kids are dancers so December means they are super busy until the Nutcracker is over and then they are ready for a break.

We school in the summer too --- mine are always ready to hit the books early and hard when they know the pool is the afternoon reward.

Happy Friday! I'm ready for the weekend and Narnia!popcorn::

Yes, I like to use the pool for leverage with the boys too. In fact, we just had our pool opened for the season and they can now swim in it. It's still pretty chilly up here to be swimming right now but they get in anyway:)

We are excited about Narnia too. I love me some Narnia and by the looks of the trailers, Prince Caspian is dreamy:lovestruc

Hi, all!:) The countdown is on! Kelly....are you changing your mind about plans?? I talked with the GF last night. Got my mini fix. I heard the band in the background....heard fussy & nice guests & lots of laughs.:goodvibes

My DH is going to Las Vegas this weekend! :cool1: He'll be gone thru next week....it's a conference. Shhhhh.....I am secretly glad, haha....one less "kid" to have to deal with & I can drive his car.:rotfl: :rotfl: I have errands to run today, but I am thinking I'll wait til Monday. :thumbsup2

Vanessa...did I miss it? YOu got a a new dog? What kind?? I haven't had a puppy in a long time. I got my Newfie when she was 6 mo old and already potty trained and socialized. I wouldn't know how to do a puppy. Sounds like you're going to have your hands full this weekend! Lucy told me she wants a slumber party for her bday....I was hoping to get off easy since we'll be at WDW for her actual bday....no such luck.

I found the CUTEST porceline birthday Eeyore at TJMaxx! :goodvibes It is a sweet little guy with a bday party hat on and he has a gift infront of him. I am taking it to WDW to stick on her bday cake as they will not do Eeyore on anything.

Talk to ya later, I'm sure -
:)
