I’ve been reading all things “Grand Floridian” for a few months on various boards. My DH, our DD31, she’s an RN and loves WDW as much as she did, or more, than when she was a little only child princess, and her DS5, our grandson, will be staying GV at GF June 17-23. Our DS19 college freshman is way over WDW (I don’t know who he takes after) and has opted out this trip.

We’ve been at least once per year since our honeymoon in 1976. We have stayed at most of the deluxe, moderate and values over the years but this will be our first stay at the GF. I have always requested a room close to the food court, bus stop, main building, pool, etc. depending on the resort. DH thinks we should roll the dice and not make any requests since the GF is not ridiciously spread out nor does it seem to have any bad views. I think I agree with him. However, I would like to know if there are any room locations we should try to avoid when we check in.

I would appreciate any advice.

By the way, still in my 40’s…for a couple of months.

Praline – I think we are practically neighbors.

Welcome, nevercook, and congrats on your upcoming stay! :goodvibes

I just got back on Monday, and had booked a GV. I, too, usually have very specific requests (even when staying at the GF previously), and decided this time just to roll the dice. Now, I do believe my TA put in a good word for me ;) , but we did get an upgrade to an MK view - my first ever staying at a WDW resort! We certainly weren't expecting one, and it was a nice surprise.

You're right in that there aren't too many undesirable views at the GF. I think we would have been happy with anything, except that potential backside of Sago Kelly mentioned above that can look out over some marshy lands (but the monorail does run right in front of you, so that could be good for a monorail lover).

I say, take a chance, and good luck! :wizard: The GF is so special! :cloud9:

The GF was the best as always! I already mentioned my upgrade - such a nice surprise. The weather was beautiful - it was starting to get a little warm by Sunday/Monday, but Wednesday evening was almost downright chilly, and Thursday and Friday were really nice. We lucked out for May for sure. I only saw a couple of love bugs yesterday afternoon as we were saying our "goodbyes" to the MK. Hopefully they won't be too bad for those of you going in a few days!

I looked around for Mr. Mike's family, but didn't spot them. What a great upgrade they had - good for them! :thumbsup2

Can you point me to the post on your upgrade? I'd like to read that. What building were you in?
The weather was great this past weekend and I had never seen a lovebug before and didn't realize that is what it was until we saw 2 of them going at it. :rolleyes1

I didn't notice 'the lady' but did see at least 3 brides. There was also a party set up at the summerhouse one night and there were many tables set up on the beach. I can't remember if i've mentioned any of this yet. :confused3

My daughter thought it was one of the best trips because one of the Jonas brothers walked by us on the way to Space Mountain. We only got a pic of his back as he walked away.
She got to see him another time in a special parade at Disney Studios. It was held an hpue before the Block Part Bash parade.

RUN AND DON"T STOP! :scared1:

JK ;) :rotfl: :rotfl:

Kelly Interesting article about TSM.....I have to say as a pass holder I was not feeling the love from the imaginer quoted. Back in 2001 they were singing a different song. Disney begged local pass holders to come to the parks right after 9/11 and the summer following invited seasonal pass holders back 1 1/2 months BEFORE our passes were valid again. I can not tell you haw many post card I got asking me to return to the parks early.....

Oh well, They have screwed up before and will do it again..... Just look at Stitch! Pass holder or not, that is a waste of space and they need to level it an put a decent attraction there! I think I will like TSM, I am not a nit pick so we'll see!

yeah I was like WOW when I read that. I love my AP but there arent enough perks for using it. Mine is up in Sept and since Sept I have used it 4 times so at least I am getting my $$ worth. They really need some type of loyalty program. I mean we have been 10 times since 2005 HELLO reward me.

Marci~ We arrive on Dec 23. We stay at the GF until 12/28 and then move over to the BCV until Jan 3. We are booked in SL right now. I keep going back and forth on this. I am going to see how my lab rat Brook enjoys the GF SL and go from there.:rotfl:

We'll be there on the 22nd and checking out with you...
I'm so lost on what to book and when... i know i have until July before things can be booked but time is flying by and I don't know what to... What I need is day off from work so i can sit dwn and plan things out...

I agree. We don't get the Annual we get the Seasonal pass. We basically are "blocked out" from going fro 2 months in the summer 2 weeks at Christmas and 2 weeks at spring break! It is 100 cheaper than the AP. We love it because I hate the heat and the crowds :rotfl: We get our money's worth, Disney says I have been through the turn styles around 500 times in the last 9 years. It sounds like a lot but its not since when we go we normally park hop at least once. That was under my married name so there's no telling how many times I went under my maiden name.......

LINDA!!!!!!!!!!

whats up I haven seen you lately :yay:

Hey Kelly (and everyone else)!

Work has been crazy lately so my time on the Internet has been limited. Add to that, I'm trying to find a PT summer nanny for my girls, and that's taking up whatever free time I have at work. I'm looking for someone to pick them up from camp everyday and take them to the pool, ballet and piano class, library, etc. I've had a few good applicants so far, so am trying to weed through everything so I can come to a decision sooner rather than later.

And I'm car-shopping too, so I'm also doing tons of research on the Internet. Less time on Dis.

I do have a question -- Am I supposed to wait for RPC to contact me, or should I contact them on my own? I'd like to have a surprise waiting for the girls in the room when we get there. Can they help out with that? As in - I have no clue what would be a good idea -- would they be able to help someone as clueless as me?

The weather is oh-so loverly here in the DC area today. Dh picked me up for lunch. I LEFT THE OFFICE FOR LUNCH. Seriously, I have not left my desk for lunch in forever. It was such a nice treat.

Linda

Ok but I don't get the shoe joke. does it have something to do with the cake? I can see why you'd wear a size smaller of its a good shoe...but... actually i don't even know what I'm saying ...
c'mon i'm a guy....this is tough stuff :)

We booked our room i just feel like i have to get a move on planning on where and when to eat before my 180 day window opens.
Usually we eat all over but i wonder if the crowds will interfer and make travelling harder and maybe we should just eat around the monorail.

it is soo awesome here today. In the 70s and so warm. When ds9 gets home I going to let him and ds4 go outside and play.

well the show thing a girl thing most woman ( notme) will stuff there foot into a shoe even if it doesnt fit LOL
but we are also posting funny saying from the movie

Do you have one? If noy you might want to rent the movie;)

tinklvr64 - Thanks. I'd be happy to join the forty club while I still qualify.

Tinkaroo - I think we will go with the "roll the dice" plan. If we get the back side of Sago, I'll kindly ask if they have anything else available. It not, I'd rather look at the marsh with a monorail running through it than a parking lot. Thanks.

Mandy - I'm too old to run.

Here's another one:

Oh, Sammy's so confused he don't know whether to scratch his watch or wind his butt. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I have to say I would have to watch it again to get the shoe joke too!

The cake scene is great! They are at a wedding were the grooms cake is an armadillo made out of red velvet cake. When they cut it someone talked about how hideous it was becasue it looked like a bleeding armadillo. Hilarious!

I need to netflix it so I can watch it again!
