You are so right about cherishing all the moments when your kids are at home. I say that to young couples all the time that seem exasperated with their little ones. I understand, day to day can get overwhelming, but soak it up - there will come a day they will wish they could do up a tiny coat, wash their face, tuck them in bed or read them a story. It only seems they will be little forever, it actually flies by.

I do the same thing. I'm always telling people with young kids to cherish every moment as their little ones will be grown before they know it and they will wonder where the time went. Our boys are 18 & 20 and it seems like just yesterday my oldest was entering pre-school. I'm a stay at home mom so I was with them 24/7 growing up, but I still don't know where the years went .

Sounds like you have a big Christmas planned and will have a house full ....but it will be worth it to have everyone there .

I miss our slightly warmer temps too.....went from mid 50s down to the teens ....with not much chance of them climbing up anytime soon .

LOL about your dog.....sounds like she doesn't like the cold much....and I can't say I blame her .

Your weather sounds close to ours, we are presently at 12 degrees with -2 wind chill. Brrr.

No baking here yet......I usually bake closer to Christmas, so will probably start in about a week and a half .

Count me in the group that spends a lot of time in the lounge as well as the shops . I could go to Disney and do just that without even going to any of the parks as that would be a very relaxing vacation to me .

Mine are 7 and 9 and I already get sad thinking about it. They slept over a friends house last night and I (who normally sleeps in on the weekend) was up bright and early ready to pick them up!!! Much to their dismay, lol

Thanks about the kids - yes, we have a big Christmas get together planned. DD and her Lab, my oldest DS and his dog and cat will be here for nearly 2 weeks, my younger son and his fiance and their dog will be here for a couple days (they don't get as much time off at once). Can't wait!!

I miss our warm weather of last week! We are having frigid temps this week, ugh. It is 19 right now but "feels like" 5 with wind chill. Possible snow.

Looks like we are the ones in the deep freeze. We'll have to band together for warmth. My poor dog has been going out begrudgingly, looking around as the door slams behind her and then stands on the deck, surveying the yard, fur blowing like she's on the Arctic tundra!!

That is wonderful that you get to have them all together for Christmas. I am dreading the days when my kids go off and I don't get to see them.

Brrr . . . It's cold here too. Although, it is even colder where I grew up in SD. They are reporting Wind temps in the -22 range. Just another reason I am glad I no longer live there. LOL

Your dog and my dog should get together. He does the same thing. I let him out and he stands there on the deck looking around. I often wonder what is going thru his mind . . . When he comes back in he give me that look that says, "Really, you couldn't train me to use the toilet inside. It's too cold out there!"

It's a rainy 54 degrees here in NJ today...I prefer a chillier December, myself!

I am seriously missing the GF and WDW so much right now...our last trip was last October, and since DD started high school this year, we decided not to take her out of school for our usual fall trip. I actually don't know when we'll be able to make it back and that makes me a bit sad.

Looking at all your photos and reading about your plans helps me get through it, though, so keep it up!

I am starting to have the same dilemma with my son. He is in the Jr. High now, but it comes with so much more work! Makes me sad my baby is growing up!

I too will take any Disney I can get! The more the better. My grandma used to make Kolotchies (I don't know if that is the right spelling either!) and they were so yummy. My mom has tried to duplicate them, but they aren't quite the same. When I was much younger, my grandma tried to teach me how she made them . . . It was a disaster! She was one of those people who didn't follow a recipe. It was a pinch of this and a handful of that . . . I didn't get it . . . LOL

for those of you who remember my job saga from the summer, i finally had enough and resigned two days ago! what a relief to be done with all that nonsense. i got a new job, it is part time (which i REALLY wanted but never thought i would find, everything i have found was full time), it is actually a position i used to work in about ten years ago and loved. very flexible schedule, great boss (same as when i worked there before). i got very, very lucky.

one of my labs had a botched routine surgery and we have had a terrible 3 weeks with more to come. i will spare you all the gory details but she needs 24/7 supervision and lots of care and unfortunately, the best case scenario is that IF she heals, it will be months of this. it is taking its toll on us, to say the least- with dh at work till 11 pm every night it is a bit much to have someone watch her 24/7 when i am the only adult caring for and chauffeuring both kids. it's so frustrating because going into this, it should have been "no big deal." and so far, we are in a total of nearly a whole GF vacation, with more expenses to come... very unexpected. but... what can you do?

I am glad that you found a new job! I had been in a very toxic teaching position a few years ago and I couldn't take it anymore. Then along came my dream teaching job. I now teach Cyber school and get to work even more closely with my students than I ever did before and I get to work from home. It is flexible so that if I need to take off do stuff for my kids, I can. I am a much happier mom now!

So sorry to hear about your dog. I hope he get better soon.

Your mom's pastries (see how I did that?! lol) sound delicious. The kids always ask me to make fudge, baked goods of all kinds and Chex mix. It's a tradition for us to have Chex mix throughout the holiday season, if they get here and I've not made it yet, they are aghast!

It's disappointing the other family members do not enjoy Disney, but at least I have my girl, she sweetly indulges me.

I am still having a hard time realizing the age of my kids. Where has the time gone. My DS will be a teenager in a couple months. How did that happen . . . I am not old enough to have a teenager in the house . . .

The GF at Christmas is amazing.

I baked 4 dozen pecan tassies - which seems like a lot, until you start eating them, lol. According to the Joy of Baking website, they freeze extremely well, I hope they do.

LOL about your Lab. DD's Lab is hilarious in the snow, she prances around, cavorts and makes a fool of herself in general.

The local news has been pointing out how much worse other areas have it, but it isn't helping.

I can relate, my grandmother had a fruitcake recipe that I now have a copy of, but I can't get them to come out right. Even my sister, who helped her make them as a teen, can't do it. Always missing something.

I do make thumbprint cookies with green mint jelly like my grandmas. I shut my eyes and take a bite and bam!! Back in her kitchen like a little girl again

K&A&C'S Mom love the holiday GF pics! The tree wasn't up yet when I was there but I have seen it the last 4/5 years.

Mickeynut I didn't bake after all. My husband wanted to shop. He never "shops"! I do usually make some cookies and freeze half and eat half. My kids like simple choc chip, oatmeal and sugar cookies which freeze good.

I love all the resorts at Christmas! When we there last year I visited WL, cr, GF and poly! (Stayed at BLT and they had cute trees in the halls my dh wanted to bring home).

Watching your kids grow up so fast is sad. It is nice to see them grow up into young adults, but it's also sad at the same time as it's not long after that that they will be out on their own . My two (so far) say they are staying local and not moving away, but you never know what a job offer might bring when the time comes.....but thankfully I have at least another 3-4 college years for them to be home.

I hear you on baking dozens of goodies and not ending up with as many as you originally started with ....but you have to do some tasting along the way .

We are blessed to have 4 generations now baking holiday cookies together...I am a better helper than baker..LOL..but DD seems to have inherited her grandmas's knack for baking!

Ok ok..I know we are OT a bit ..but on the Disney side of that...I do have some of the Cooking with Mickey cookbooks that have been published over the years... and have tried many of the recipes... The cookbooks do bring me down Disney restaurant memory lane... anyone remember Flagler's?? Predecessor to Citricos? Its always about the food!

We just returned from our first stay at GF and oh my, it was marvelous!

We had connecting TPV rooms in Big Pine Key (I think that was the name of it). It was quiet, clean and service was second to none. The walk to get refills on drinks was a hike though.

The view of the fireworks was good but, I do have to say that the contemporary view was better. The kids liked being close to the Electrical Water parade, too.

Narcoosees and Citricos were both great restaurants and 1900 Park Fare had the best eggs benedict ever. Despite me vowing never to return to 1900 after dinner our last visit, I have to say the breakfast is very, very good.

I think we've said goodbye to the DxDP, it's just to much food and we are going to do Club Level next time and forego the dining plan altogether. I really like the idea of the outer buildings though-a little more quaint so, I'll be eyeing the outer building club level.

I already miss it-lovely, lovely place to stay.

Glad you had a great stay. The GF is a beautiful resort with a lot to offer. I would suggest looking into both SL and RPC for your GF CL stay. It was nice trying SL and I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience it, but there's nothing quite like staying in the main building (although everyone's opinion is different and there are some that don't care for RPC). Have fun planning your next stay .

I am so glad you had a great trip. We too are doing DxDP this trip and I have a feeling I might go into a food coma. Although with it being Christmas, dining might be the only thing we have a minimal wait! LOL

mickeynut - LOL about the dogs and the teens! I make peanut butter blossoms, too. My kids like to race each other unwrapping the Kisses, which makes it extra easy for me!

grannyminnie - hope you got some rest, 2 parties in one day - wow!! You're right, I'm a lounge lizard at heart.

trishadono - aren't all the resorts beautiful at Christmas? We love checking out as many of the decorations as we can. It's been so long since we've been at Christmas.

BlueSkies - a weekend in FL?! A girl after my own heart! What a dream, after I woke up to -2 degrees this morning. Ugh.

The bell ringers were in 2006? I think. We were there in the days leading up to Christmas (flew home on Christmas Eve to be with the rest of the family, lol) and there were several wonderful performances - that's the only one I happened to catch in a photo! In fact, I didn't take nearly as many pictures that trip as I should have, phooey.

Pecan tassies are tiny pecan tarts, so good. My whole family loves them.

We love SL and RPC, whichever is available at a discount.

I thought you might feel the fireworks view less stellar than the CR - hard to beat those CR MK views, right?!

Good Morning!

I was able to check in yesterday (YAY!!) but I have a question. It asked me if I wanted a dormer room. Since I am in SL, are those rooms on the top floor only or are some on the lower ends?

Other than having the closed balcony, what is the benefit? Are they bigger? Smaller??

We had the closed balcony at WL CL, it didn't bother me like it did some..I could go out in my sleep shirt and not worry about being seen..since I don't have a "view", just wondered if I should request this.
