I work from home 2-3 days a week and was wondering if I can do this at DVC so we can extend our stay.

Has anyone done this and what is your experience? I wonder if the wired internet is reliable and fast enough.

Yes, I have worked a few days for part of the days off and on and had no internet issues at either OKW or BCV. It helped me extend my stay too! :thumbsup2

We have done this too. No problems. I have even read that one or two people here on the boards keep small printers and wireless routers in their "Purple Box" (Owner's Lockers).

We work from home, too, and have on occasion had to do some work while at DVC...never a full day's work, though, just whatever needed to be done to keep the wolves at bay. The Internet seemed fast enough to us to handle normal email responses, opening attachments, etc. Never tried to open a huge powerpoint with lots of graphics or use Office Communicator to have a live conversation, but it might work just fine. I know my kids have watched youtube videos from there, so at least some streamed media works!

Thanks! I like your answer.:cool1:

Our guest in July will be doing this and I hope there wont be any issues.

Never a full day of work, but I have worked partial days while there.

I am dreading taking the laptop with to Aulani this fall. Going to be out of the office for two weeks (DLR + Aulani, first two week vacation ever) and I just know work is going to want me to check in from time to time....

The internet connection is slower there than at the house but it is doable.

Unfortunately I end up working on EVERY vacation. DW calls them my Workcations. :rotfl:

I bring my laptop with me and leave a wireless router in our owners locker. Service is not bad. You can easily sit anywhere in the villa or on the balcony and get connection.

I usually try and connect while everyone is getting dressed in the morning and then again when we get back from the parks.

Rather work from Disney then work from my office! :rotfl:

I can tell you that I have streamed live video for long amounts of time over the internet at WLV. I have never had an issue...

I do use a lot of internet while I am at WDW.

:tigger:

I have, and although the connection is reliable, Disney's connection did something to my VPN configuration that neither my company nor Disney Tech support could figure out. My system was rebuilt from the ground up after I got back.... unfortunately I was the one doing the rebuild.

I wish I could recall exactly what the issue was... oh well, I try to forget the bad. :rotfl:

Now, would I do it again even if I knew my laptop would need a full rebuild? (does lightning strike twice?) If working a few hours from Disney meant being able to stay an extra weekend, I would in a heartbeat!

Dh and I almost always work till noon, which enables us to stay for longer periods of time. We are one of those that has a second Owners Locker, our Office in a Box, which contains a printer, keyboards (neither of us likes laptop keyboards), 19" flat screens...just makes our stay more productive and more enjoyable to have these things with us.

We've never had a problem with connections, we've been fine with the speed...so far. :)

If I only I could work everyday, sitting under a umbrella at SAB, with my 3G network, I would not dread Mondays, or Tuesdays or ..................:rotfl:

When DH was still teaching, I have typed in exams for Blackboard, assignments, and other things for my classes when his vacations did not match the University schedule. I've been at Vero, AKV, and SSR, so far. This winter with frequent snow days I did the same from home -- not nearly as enjoyable.

Do it all the time. It's just like working from home, but you have to be disclipined, not to "go to the parks" I generally start work early and knock off early so I can spend the late afternoon/evening in the park

My VPN has never been bothered by Disney's Internet, but I do travel with a wireless tether to my blackberry as a backup.

The ability to work while at Disney is the main reason I get to go so frequently! (Cell phone w/email capability is another "must"--)

I've had one trip when Disney's system would not let me hook up to the internet...the IT people came (they told me I didn't need to be in the room) when over-the-phone troubleshooting didn't help, and left me a note saying their laptop worked perfectly. Unfortunately, they didn't leave their laptop for me to use, and the system would not hook mine up to the net (using their cable)...

But I have an aircard as my "back-up" and it worked just fine...it was a short, weekend trip so it wasn't a "crisis" and I didn't follow up any further...my laptop works just fine at every other off-site place I've used it (3 other hotels, airport)...

It does make a me a tad nervous about my upcoming trip--but out of 25 trips, I've only had the one where I couldn't make the internet connection work ...

And the aircard is a perfectly acceptable alternative, so long as I don't have to use it full-time every trip...

I've worked "full-time" a number of times...but much of my work I can (and do) do well before my family/guests awaken, or late-ish at night (reports, memos, etc. can be written "off-hours")...

So yes, I can and do work (a lot) from Disney--and like a PP, I'd FAR rather do that than not be able to go (or stay as long as I'd like)...

DH has done it nearly every trip so he can get some comp time.

Last November, my DH worked most of our stay during mid day (We're from the west coast). We had an one bdrm and no kids with us. He spread out on the kitchen table and counter, papers, drawings and computer. He will tell you that it was a great way to work.
