Have You Used Your Points At Disneyland (CA)?

I am contemplating using my points for trip in September to DL so I can run the half marathon. For those who have used their points to go to DL, do you think it was worth it?

I have been having a hard time finding any discounts on paying cash for any of the 3 DL hotels. So I started playing around with my points to see if I could do it.

I would love to hear your experiences Also, any advice on which hotel to choose? GC looks wonderful, but is it worth the extra points? DLH has a fun looking pool that I think my kids (and me ) would enjoy. PP doesn't look like anything special.

We used our points to stay a couple of nights at the Grand Californian. We had a DCA view (it was cool seeing the sunrise behind the bear) and concierge. It was neat!

We lived in So. Ca. at the time and had an annual pass. This made the cost of the trip minimal. We ended up eating one big meal then snacking at the concierge lounge. They had all kinds of goodies throughout the day (the wine was good too!). We also attended the cookies and milk/ story telling event.

We loved having the entrance right into DCA. We loved going on the water ride in the evening and going to the room to change before going over to DL for a couple of rides. The pool was nice and Downtown Disney is always a great place to go.

Was it worth it?? Well, we could have had a full week in a 2bd instead of 2 nights in a typical hotel room. We couldn't make it to FL that year. Our only option was lose the points, rent the points, or go to DL. We had a nice time and loved concierge!

We have made 3 trips to Disneyland's Grand Californian on points and never regretted it.

We love the location, close to both parks and Downtown Disney right outside the hotel door. Storyteller Cafe there is the best! Yummy!!

Just don't expect the "Welcome Home" type of atmosphere at check in. Just not the same kind of greeting that you find at the DVC Resorts. But, nevertheless, a wonderful hotel to stay in.

We've never regretted using our points for the Grand CA and Disneyland Hotel. Discounts have been getting harder to find for these hotels and I don't like staying off site.

Thanks so much for the replies! I called MS today and their is plenty of availability for my dates. I still need to convince DH. Now, would you use points for all nights, or pay cash for the weekend? I would be there for 1 saturday - 38 points for DLH, 48 for GC. Should I pay cash for that night and then points for the rest? Anyone ever done a combo of points and cash for DL?

We have used points for GC concierge. When we made the reservation the best discounted rate we could find for those accommodations was 17% higher than the value of our points. So we used points.

Using your points outside of DVC resorts is a case by case decision. You need to determine the value for your points. We use our cost basis. Some use rental value basis. Then you can compare the cost of using points as opposed to paying cash. Remember to factor in the hotel taxes.
