Have you stayed at AKL?

If you have stayed at AKL what was one little detail that you found amazing. Like art work, a particular CM telling you a story, a detail in your room, really anything you really liked.

You're gonna laugh, but...

the smell in the lobby.

It's a spicey, woody aroma that I just really like.

I also love the artwork scattered around (it makes roaming the lodge something of an attraction in itself), and the "story time" around the fire pit each night.

The beds were comfortable, and it is a nice resort, but that is about all I can say about it. We won't be staying there again.

See...and I feel the same way about the WL (except at Xmas time).

Different strokes, I guess. That's what makes the offerings at WDW so great...the variety.

I understand how you could find the smell so special.

My favorite thing is walking down the very quiet hallway towards the lobby. And as you get closer you begin to hear all of these sounds from the lobby, Boma, and even Victoria Falls. You hear people talking, laughing, utensils from Boma, etc. They say they did that on purpose. The hallways/rooms are supposed to represent being on the savannah while the lobby and the restaurants are the marketplaces. I just love it and it always makes me excited to see what is going.

One of my DDs still talks about the egg lamp (light) in the lobby.
My little one keeps talking about the maps of Africa...she's referring to the wallpaper in the bathroom area of the rooms.
My DS talks about the Zebra Domes.
For me the coolest thing (of zillions) about the AKL was talking with the CMs from around the resort who are from all the different places in Africa/South Africa. I loved learning about where they were from, what languages they spoke, what their families are like and what their experience working in the US is like. I was surprised to see that some left young children behind. I learned so much culture and saw what beautiful people they are.
My DH still talks about what an expensive trip it was! (:flower3: It was, but at least he's still talking about it!)

The last time we were at WDW we didn't stay at AKL but missed it. On our last day we went for a visit to get Zebra domes and we decided the new family rule - always stay at AKL. It's just the combination of the architecture, music, art, and plantings that make it so special.
