If you have stayed at AKL what was one little detail that you found amazing. Like art work, a particular CM telling you a story, a detail in your room, really anything you really liked.

The first time I ever stayed at AKL was for the 05/05/05 celebration, DH and I were there with the invited media and I was blown away by all the special freebies and pampering we were given. They had one of the huge suites set-up all day long with food, drinks, and I will never forget how amazing that suite was. It was probably the most beautiful one I have ever seen at WDW. I think it was the same suite on the Samantha Brown special. The decor, art, and everything was perfect. It totally blew me away. ;)

All of the above and more! :lovestruc The one thing that I found most amazing was sitting on my balcony watching the animals, especially the giraffes and zebras. :worship: I also loved walking into the lobby after spending a day at one of the parks--the atmosphere and smells from the restaurants.

We have stayed at the AKL two times in the last two years, and our third trip is scheduled for Dec. The one thing from our last trip that sticks out to me and we think about often. DH, DD and I were the only ones sitting in the hot tub, and our view from the hot tub was the beautiful flamingoes. We were totally amazed that we were sitting in the hot tub watching those birds.
Another thing that we love about the AKL is the lobby and it's distinctive smell, like a spicy smoky smell. Love it there so much, can't wait to get back.

The beds were comfortable, and it is a nice resort, but that is about all I can say about it. We won't be staying there again.

We loved just all of the stuff for the kids to do, Animal Tracking, storytelling, music, Cookie decorating, Night vision Goggles. We found the CM's very nice & helpful.

One thing that I found amazing about the AKL (in addition to many others) was the extreme attention to detail, even in the rooms. The designers of the rooms did not miss one square inch of detail. Everywhere you looked, even the moulding around the room, was carved to make it look special and African-themed. I was very impressed with that.

P.S. Here's a direct link to my AKL web pages, with a lot of pictures of our room and the resort itself. Enjoy :) http://www.brownfamilyvacations.com/html/AKL comments.htm

WHY??? Please explain.

It just didn't give me the WOW factor that WL did and it is sooooo far from everywhere, except AK park that we just didn't enjoy it. We spend most of out time at MK and it took a goo 20 minutes to get there and close to 30 minutes to get to DTD. The room was nice and the beds were really nice and comfy. If you want to be away form everything, this is the place to stay, but other wise it is not.

Are the beds a little more comfotable than the average hotel?

I thought they were alot more comfortable than the average hotel and even better than some of the other resorts. I would describe them as soft and cushy, kinda like sleeping on a fluffy pillow.

This just goes to show how there is something for every taste at Disney.
In 2006 we stayed 1 week at AKL followed by 1 week at WL. All we did at WL was wish we were back at AKL, for the same reason as the above poster felt, WL just didn't give us the WOW factor that AKL did. We loved the atmosphere of AKL. While we appreciated that WL's grounds were very pretty, we felt that it just didn't have that something special that made it so totally unique the way that AKL does.

That's just how we feel.

I'm sure you won't regret your stay at AKL. As for the "one" detail we found amazing... well I could never choose just one. We love all the details!

Have a great time!

Oh, I completely agree.

The smell of the lobby, the bead activities, the story teller by the firepit every night, the little music parade in the lobby each evening. We enjoyed this resort every time we have stayed.

I had to LOL at this because I am currently laying on the sofabed in my AKV studio because I woke up with a backache after sleeping on the bed my first two days here. I started sleeping on the sofabed and I woke up fine! Both of my children are sleeping on it too - they both said they like it better than the "real" bed. :rolleyes1
It could be that it's too soft though, I don't know. I just know it feels fine when I fall asleep but I'm in pain in the morning.

That is funny  I guess I was probably comparing it to my bed at home, well which isn't really a bed, more of a mattress and box springs on the floor. I do just remember not wanting to get up out of it, but I don't remember if I was hurting afterwards or not.

We stayed at AKL last Oct. Was so nice to come back to after a long day in the parks, kind of felt like home away from home. So nice and quiet.

It was a lovely resort to return to at the end of everyday. Nice and quiet and calm and relaxing. You enter the lobby and it just feels right. I'm not one for dark wood or dimly lit places, but I loved all of that at the AKL. Really peaceful feeling at the end of a long, hot day in the FL sun. And you feel as if you are really in an African lodge. There are still hints of Disney, but they are not in-your-face.

If it weren't for the fact that AKL was a bit far away from most parks, we would have chosen to stay there again for our upcoming trip.

We thought the beds were heavenly! Also, we found the pillows so incredible I purchased some when we got home. I think, though, that after a long day at the parks, a pine board would have been comfortable! :)
