The new papa of the today show is looking pretty fine lately! I can't believe I just now noticed --- because he has obviously dropped LOTS of weight.
:p

This entry was made by Al in his on line Journal in March -- sounds like it was surgery -- whatever -- he is looking wonderful. I hope he is happy with his new self and his new family.

Didja Miss me? March 27, 2002

Hey gang!

As you've probably surmised by now, I was on vacation last week and yesterday.

Well, I'm back..You may have heard rumors or innuendo about surgery or worse. Let me tell you this: All will become apparent in the coming weeks and months ahead.

I feel great, I have no underlying health issues and I intend to get healthier and healthier now that there's a new baby boy on the way.

Yep! A boy. And let me tell you, it's a quite a story, one that I will share with you in the next couple of days.

Right after Today, I'm heading off to Norfolk, Va. to be part of the welcoming party for the USS Teddy Roosevelt. This Navy Aircraft carrier is steaming into port after doing its duty over in Afganistan in the war against terror.

I'm live from the home port there on Wednesday, so I'm not sure if I'll have the trusty laptop for a report. I know security is gonna be tight and I think the fewer gegaws and toys I have, the better.

Until next time,

Al
:p

Jason, you crack me up!! Guess What --- I would seem 'very' real to you! Plenty of 'plump' on this body (boo hoo).
;)

[browneyes] I haven't seen Al Roker in a long time. How much weight do you think he's lost?

Oh my -- I am a bad judge of 'how much' but its obviously ALOT -- I'd say 50 lbs or so is quite possible. Put the today show on right now if you get a chance (NBC) and let me know what YOU think.

LOL! I can't. I'm at work. Maybe they have something on their website about his weight loss?

Ummmm -- don't tell, but I'm at work too;) . I am so spoiled though. I have the wonderful opportunity to work in an office out of my home. It does have it drawbacks sometimes --- as the only 'people' contact I often get is here on the DIS -- but believe me -- it has its advantages too!

I'm no judge of actual pounds, but he's gone from being really large and quite overweight to big but not really overwhelmingly fat. He does look very nice.

There's a tv right outside my office door, but they keep it on FoxNews. If I change the channel, I'm afraid my hand will get snapped off.:o Besides, I'd have to move a few things over there to climb up on so I can reach the channel changer. I'll see if I can remember to catch Al in the morning.:)

I think I read somewhere that he had a Gastric Bypass done (same has Carnie Wilson.)

Well....whatever the reason he does look great. I thought at the beginning of summer that he had lost weight because his face looked slimmer but since I really only get to watch Today during the summer I just was not sure. BUt NOW since he is not covered up with the suits you can really tell. I would guess it is closer to 100 pounds that he has lost!!!!!!

By the way brown eyes..... I think I might have been somewhere "in you neck of the woods"(as AL would say) this past weekend. We went camping close to Blairsville. I know you are up North there somewhere but just cound not remember exactly where. We camped at Track Rock. Were we close to you??I remember someone also is from Canton and we stopped there to get gas.

I recently bought his book "Don't Make Me Turn this Car Around!" at the dollar store. It's a really cute book about parenting, and it chronicled their (he and his wife Deborah's) struggle with infertility. It was definintely worth a dollar! I'm glad they are having a boy. They have a daughter together, and he has a daughter from a previous marriage.

He had surgery, but it was a total knee replacement. This may have encouraged him to start taking off some pounds.

Their son Nicholas was born recently as well (not sure of the date).

Here's a link to his journal entry about the knee. Today's entry is thanking people for the gifts and best wishes they've received for his son. (Never knew Al had his own website).

Roker's Knee

Update: Just noticed that this surgery was in 2001. Maybe it's a one-year weight loss?

Here's the entry about his son. Born 7/18/2002.

He's Here! July 19, 2002

Welcome to the world, Baby Boy.

Nicholas Albert Roker arrived yesterday at 1:59pm.

The little guy's vitals are as follows:
8 lbs. even
19.5 inches long

Both Deborah and the baby are doing well.

Courtney is finally talking about another guy other than the boys she's ga-ga over. She's going "Goo-Goo...Gaa-Gaa" over her baby brother.

Leila actually started calling him Nicholas right after we told her she was going to have a little brother or sister. We tried to explain that we didn't know if the baby was a he or a she. Leila insisted that this was Nicholas.

We played around with Harrison, Jordan and Tyler, but we always came back to Nicholas. "Let's wait until we see him", we both said.

Well, we saw him, and he was and is Nicholas. Albert is in honor of my Dad, Albert.

He looks just like Leila with bee stung lips and beautiful eyes.

Check out ABC News 20/20 tonight for a picture of Nick and Mommy.

Until next time,

Al
