Have you rented DVC points? How is BWV? How is late Feb?

Hello all!

It's been a while since I've posted.....since Feb. 02 trip. We are now planning a Feb. 04 trip and of course I have come back to the boards to get the latest info!

We have to go week of Feb. 23 as my kids (DS 12, DD 8) are off that week for Mardi Gras. This is in peak season and I'm leary about the room rates and potential crowds. (In Feb. 02 Mardi Gras was in early Feb and our rates were still in value season and I got a great deal after 9/11.) This year Mardi Gras is the week AFTER president's day, which is on Feb. 16. How are the crowds then?

Anyway, I have just discovered the idea of renting points from DVC members to stay at BWV, OKW, etc. I am interested in doing that and have posted something on the DVC boards. However, having never done it before, I wanted to check with anyone on this board to see if they were happy with results.

We are looking specifically at BWV and am also interested in any thoughts on that. We have stayed at CBR, Poly, and Contemporary in past. From what I've read, the BWV looks nice!

Thanks for any help!

I have rented points four times from the DVC rent and trade board here. Two trips completed and the other rentals are on deck for October (one night at BWV and then BCV so DS can finally use Stormalong Bay). My experiences have all been positive. Keep in mind the points for Friday and Saturday nights are much higher. I've spent those nights in a Disney hotel--last year the Poly, and this year it will be AKL! I like the DVC so much I keep working on DH, but he thinks rooms at WDW are just a place to sleep!

We own BWV and have been going the last for the last however many years. BWV is awesome. Crowds are light. The longest wait is usually TT at 30 minutes and most rides are 15 but many are walkons. It's a GREAT to go!!!

We went at the end of February this year, and found it to be a great time to go! The President's Week people were gone and the crowds were generally light. The exception for us was MK on Saturday. It was a zoo, probably because that was the only day that Spectromagic was going on in the evening.

Being a DVC owner, I haven't rented points before. But I do want to say that you'll LOVE BWV if that's where you wind up. Can't wait to go back this Christmas!

Good luck! :D

Hi allicat1214, sounds like we are on the same WDW schedule! We too were there during the last week of value season in '02 and are going back late Feb. '04 in peak season. I just booked BWI for Feb. 22-29. Definately need a discount! I have been encouraged by several posters who say the week AFTER Pres. week is a good one to go. I don't know how much Mardi Gras will affect the crowd situation this coming year. Guess we don't have a choice, that's our vacation time too!

Good luck!:D

I have rented points 3 times. We loved it so much we became members! It is very easy to do, just make sure you only pay a deposit up front and then once you receive your confirmation papers send the rest. Also, make sure you receive all the renter's info in case you need to contact them. You will love it!! Have fun!

I am in the process of renting points for the first time too. So far the transaction has gone very smooth. I contacted a DVC member through the rental board via email. After agreeing on payment method he made a reservation and sent me the original confirmation from Disney.

There is a bit of risk involved being that you are sending money to a total stranger and the DVC member is making a reservation also for someone he has never met. But considering the savings, I was willing to take the chance. We are staying in a BWV studio, preferred view, for 5 nights in August for $617.50 total. Rack rate would be $1,611.40. You just can't beat staying at the BW for $123.50/night including tax.

I have yet to read a horror story concerning rentals gone bad (DVC member pocketing the money or renter not following through with payment) which is not to say it can't happen. But do your homework and don't be afraid to ask for references.

Good luck and have a great vacation.

Bill
