Hi,

Just wondering if many of you Cdn's have paid disney for your trip by cheque. I was going to send cheques in every now and then to pay down the balance. If you have how did you go about it.

Is there anything special I have to do since it is going to the US?

Thanks for your help

I think you have to do a US money order or an account in USD. I don't think they take our cheques.
I have paid off my balance before I got there each time I go and it feels so nice not to have to think about that payment! I put $100 a month on my CC and that way it is spread out and does not hurt. I use my paypal card which is in USD and it is my paypal balance this way I don't have to think about the conversion rates too.

Don't assume you can send cheques to the U.S. even if they are in U.S. $. The banking systems are different. There will surely be a longer hold on the money while the U.S. bank sends up to Canada to collect. And if it bounces, it's very expensive. Because of this, most businesses won't accept a cheque drawn on a foreign bank, period. It's just too much trouble and expense to process.

So ask before you send. A money order in US$ would probably be much more acceptable... but a bit more expensive for you.

I have paid with a US cheque drawn on a Canadian account. I wrote the amount and USD behind it. Never had an issue. You will be charged the exchange rate on the day it is cashed. I would maybe be more inclined to get a bank draft/money order in USD so that you know the rate you are getting.

this is why I use a TA from CAA that way I can go to the office and pay the balance off bit by bit in cash.

My friend lives in Canada. His in-laws live in Buffalo, NY. His father-in-law died and Canadian friends of his sent memorial donations to the church in Buffalo. It took 6 weeks for the cheques to clear in the United States and the church in Buffalo to receive the money.
