NWA attendents might go on strike.

Anyone know more about this.....I just caught a blurb on the radio.

NWA central hub in in Detroit and we fly out in 2 weeks.

Let's hope it all shakes out.

All has to do with possible furloughs of Flight Attendants.
Part of the restructuring of NWA in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

It's sad.

Good luck to you. I hope it doesnt happen.

NOOOOOO! We fly out of Metro the end of Feb. Here I was worrying about snow.

Oh for crying out loud........

I was worried about snow too, but now this. I thought NWA was past most of these hassles? :confused3

I would suggest going to www.flyertalk.com go to miles and points and then the Northwest forum. They will know what is going on before most places and they will give the best information.

Thanks safetymom, I tried to go to that site after I posted but didn't find anything. I think I didn't dig deep enough........

Last night on WDIV in Detroit, they said it is the pilots who may be striking in mid Feb. If the bankruptcy judge orders the pilots to fly for NWA's new regional carrier, they will strike. Also they said that it makes a difference if you bought your ticket before NWA declared bankruptcy or after. I guess TA's are telling clients that a ticket bought after bankruptcy was declared can/may not be honered!

I kept watching Spirit, but their fares were too high. I thought they we a budget airline?

I'm not overly concerned---when an airline is in bankruptcy, the unions have almost no power. A strike during bankruptcy is the equivalent of the nuclear option---everyone who walks off is almost certainly out of a job, because the bankruptcy judge can allow the airline to hire permanent replacements immediately, and allow the airline to not have to consider re-hiring striking workers. A strike certainly harms the airline, but it harms the union more.

I expect that this is largely a negotiating tactic, much as the Delta unions rattled their sabres a month or two ago.
