Have you had your mutt DNA tested?

People at the dog park used to always comment on my dog Kiani because she had spots on her tongue. It's common in the spitz line, and there's several "non aggressive spitz". She had no characteristics of being a chow, and I finally settled on her being a samoyed. I adopted her as an american eskimo.

....my furbaby is 100% Sammie - perhaps you'd like to compare:

...your cutie seems to be leaner in the chest, so that tells me that she may have some Am. Esk. in her...

In this picture, at least, his face definitely has German Shepherd in there (I'd know that face anywhere).

The back part of his head, to me, looks like Golden Retreiver.

The rest of his body, I'm not sure, lol. The curly tail is tricky. It suggests Spitz, I think.

I'd like to see some more pictures of him.

DNA testing in his case would be really interesting. (Be sure to let us know if you do it!)

BTW, he's a beauty! :goodvibes

I'll post some more pics later. I can't find any others on this computer and someone took the batteries out of my camera to use in an Xbox controller:headache:

My dog's name is Thunder and he has some black spots on his tongue if that helps. Definitely does not have the golden retriever coat; he doesn't require much brushing. He has a deep back, kind of like a shepard, but is not aggressive at all. He is a big barker, and people THINK he would bite them, but he is a big weenie.

she's got the Chow back-end, tongue, and attitude () but she doesn't have the smooshy face, and i have no idea what she's mixed with. i think she's the most beautiful dog in the world, though.

I don't know about the tongue thing (I know Chows have a blue one). My dog has black spots on her tongue but she is purebred GS.

Hmmm.....maybe the black spots are from a German shepard? I have a feeling he is the son of two mutts, so who knows what all he is mixed with?:rotfl: That's all right, my son is a human "mutt"(although that is not how I refer to it) and he is the best kid in the world.:goodvibes

We could never figure out what kind of dog our old mutt was... when we got him as a puppy, they told us he was "mostly Jack Russell" Yeah right.

Anyone want to take any guesses?

Here is our old boy...

I didn't know this was a possibility, but I wouldn't DNA test my dog because it would be money spent, yet my life (and the dog's life) wouldn't change one bit.

I can see doing this if you want to breed the dog (and sell the pups for profit), and I can see doing it if you're looking to buy a new dog and want to know exactly what you're getting.

I know she wasn't a fully sammy... but everything about her screamed sammy...

Especially with the black nose, around her eyes, and mouth.

She had the thick double coat under her chest and at her hind legs, but the middle of her body was just long fur. And man did she shed like a sammy. And the fur would just grow so long between her toes and on the bottom of her paws. Ohh and she had this really funny bowlegged stance... her back legs would just turn out.

This is a close up, shortly after I got her (yes, I'm in an EB store.) Christmas 2004.

I don't have any pictures of this, but she LOVED to pull me on my scooter. I would put her leash on my scooter and we'd FLY down the street. Ohh but she knew how to throw me off. Her favorite thing would to run run run, then stop dead to go pee, of course I'd go flying off. Or she'd start to run through rocks and I'd just hop off, she'd drag the scooter for a bit then turn around to see what happened to me. Every one thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

I had to put her to sleep on Dec 21 from a tumor. I didn't feel right not burying her, so she got a private cremation and now I have her in a box. But it was really nice of them, they gave me a certificate with her paw print and clippings of her fur in a little pouch. I only had her for about 6 years, and she was my first dog.

I have had several of our clients do the DNA testing on thier dogs. We also have a client who has cloned his dog . The lady who had her cat cloned years ago is also a client at my clinic .

If it really matters to you then have it done they are not cheap to do though . My sisters boyfriend found out his dog was not only pit bull but beagle LOL and cocker .

...definitely too short (...errrrrr, I mean 'vertically-challenged'..:rotfl: ) to be a Sammie.....hocks a bit too thin also....a BEAUT, none-the-less....

What kind of dog is in your avatar?

We did it for fun. It was interesting. It gave us about 4 different breeds mixed together, so who knows how reliable it is. We do see some of the characteristics of her "main breed" in her though.

This turned into a dog photo posting thread. :sad2:

The OP needs to change the title to put in a warning.

We did the doggy DNA test from Hammacher Schlemmer (I think). It was just out of curiosity. It came back with ranges. 20-33% each of three breeds that he has zero characteristics of, 10-19% one breed that does match some of his characteristics. Possibility of other breeds in him that are not in their database.

We think he looks most like a Jack Russell terrier, which is not in their database, so I don't know, I guess he could have those other breeds in him, too. Hard to believe it though, it seems so off.

Finally got back to post some more pics of my mutt. Any more guesses to what he may be mixed with?

Sorry to hijack the thread for a minute but I'm curious--

I've seen you comment 3 different times with the mad or sad emoticon when dog photos are posted. Just curious--what's the problem with that??
