Have you had this problem with Vista?

When I log on it doesn't recognize the password so I can't get into my computer. I've learned this is a known problem to Windows Vista. Right now I'm logged on in safe mode but it's the pits cause I don't have any of my Favorites, Internet home page, etc. Apparently the password has somehow been deleted so the computer doesn't recognize it. Does anyone know how to fix this ... easily? I found some info via Google search but the instructions are complicated for a non techie like me. I tried to follow along but it's not working. It tells me to log in to safe mode and change the password but it's not working!!! Grrr!!!!

TIA

I have a friend who works for Microsoft and she's never heard of a problem like that. Sorry.

I'm new to Vista. I just purchased a laptop with it. I haven't had any problem adjusting at all. Sorry--I hope you find out what the problem is.

I've not had the problem, but I'm searching for ya. Are you the only user?

We have 4 computers at home running Vista and not one of them has ever had this problem.

We did have a problem once when someone couldn't log onto Vista because the "Caps Lock" was on.

While I have never had a problem logging on with Vista I do know it is not compatible with a lot of other programs. I access the internet thru a Verizon USB card and I have had repeated problems with that . Vista just seems to lock up period with me and this is the second new laptop I have bought with Vista in it. They are still working on ironing out a lot of the "bugs" in the system and by the time they have it all figured out there will be yet another OS out there :) I know several ppl who own laptops with Vista installed and everyone has reported issues of one kind or the other.

My understanding is that the next OS, Windows 7, actually has all of the compatibility enhancements that have gone into Vista, and is really aimed specifically at avoiding the problems that people had with Vista. Vista was a whole new OS (just like Windows NT was a whole new OS), but Windows 7 is just a new version (just like Windows 95 and Windows 2K where new versions).

Me and hubby both use it. I don't understand why all of a sudden the password is not recognizable or how it would have been deleted. I'd used it a few hours before looking at my usual message boards/forums. I didn't install any new software or anything like that.

I'm off to try the fixes I tried last night. One of the instructions I looked at said to log on in safe mode, go to control panel, user accounts, manage other accounts - which at that stage would allow me to set up another account as administrator or guest instead of owner. But when I click on manage other accounts it won't open. :sad2: Thank goodness I have a desktop to use so I can search the net for a fix.

Thanks all for your help.

ETA: The message I get when trying to log on: The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

UPDATE:

I completed a system restore that allowed me to log on. I don't know what caused the problem or how to prevent it from happening again
.

It was very likely a one time issue -if it said the user profile could not be loaded-that DOES NOT mean it didnt recognize the password but more likely there was some minor file corupption somewhere in the files associated with the user profile-this can occur in XP but its relatively rare-should it happen again you man want to have your hard drive scanned for bad sectors and reload your operating system.

I just got a new laptop last week that uses Windows Vista and I must say I'm not really impressed. When I had to set up the computer, I chose the option with no password, it asked me a couple of times if I was sure and I said "YES". Right now when I get on the computer it says "Laptop Locked", but all I do is click on it and it goes right in.

My biggest problem with Vista is when typing or moving the mouse...all of the sudden it zooms the page down to tiny writing or huge writing. Strange.:confused3 But it's easy to fix, I just click on page and choose 100% and it goes back to normal. Give me back my XP!!!:rotfl:

I hate Vista with a passion. It has now decided that since I can't finish downloading my Vista updates (seven of which are known errors, all over the internet), it will no longer allow me to download ANY applications of any programs. I spent over two hours of my precious weekend on the phone with a Dell person from overseas (need I say more), he "took over" my computer, researched the issue, etc, and finally said, "Call Windows, it's a Vista problem". Thank you very much!

So I can't wait until something comes out that's better than Vista!
