Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

It’s been three weeks since my last dose, and I feel awesome. I could browse in the hardware store today without freaking out about other shoppers also looking at the cabinet knobs. I can grocery shop again. I can pass people with their masks pulled down and not feel the need to make a huge detour around them.

Yesterday I Mother’s Day shopped with friends ending with a glass of wine at the wine bar. I hugged my parents. I’ve gone out for patio dining twice this week!

My whole family is two weeks past our last shots and we are having Mother’s Day dinner with 8 of us!

It was so worth it.

I am 4 hours post second Pfizer vaccine. So far so good. I have been drinking lot of Gatorade, I've been icing my arm and moving it frequently.

The site seems a little busier than it was for my first shot but I was there in the middle of the clinic vs the end. My daughter got hers an hours or so later and she said it was dead. I'll update on both our progress tomorrow.

So now 15 hours post second Pfizer and other than a mild sore arm and maybe a minor sore throat (which I think is unrelated and most likely because I haven’t used my humidifier in a couple days) I’ve had no side effects/reaction.

My DD 30 only the sore arm and maybe a slight headache but she is prone to headaches so it too could be unrelated.

My first Moderna, no symptoms except a sore arm for 24 hours or so.

My second one yesterday about 24 hours ago -- I feel like poop. Low grade fever (99) some chills, body aches and just overall blah. My DH got his second at the same time and just has a sore arm. Really hoping I feel better tomorrow.

Update from my post yesterday. I feel fine today. My arm is still a little sore, but I'm sure it will be for a few more days. So, my chills and body aches started somewhere post-12 hours and I was already feeling a lot better post-30 hours.

Dh and I had a long heart to heart and reluctantly agreed that we would get the vaccine as his parents are 80+ and his dad is currently hospitalized with an infection. Given this scenario we decided on J & J. Found a local place and went same day. I am over 24 hrs out and experienced NO side effects. I will now pray that FIL recovers and neither of us develop some mysterious illness in 5 years. I do not feel any euphoria or giddyness some have reported but then we weren't really in hiding for the last year.

So proud of you & grateful for you getting the vaccine! Thanks for keeping your FIL (and everyone else) safe!

It makes such a difference to your loved ones who are at risk. My dad has cancer, and my cousin has Downs Syndrome. I couldn't spend quality time with either of them until I (and they) were vaccinated. I'm so grateful to the vaccine because I can see my loved ones without worrying about making them sick.

I understand the reluctance and the reason for getting it. I was there only a few weeks ago. I finally decided to get it despite my concerns of the unknown for my mom. Without the vaccine I would not be able to see her due to her being very high risk.

I can’t say I’ve been hiding but the vaccine will make me more comfortable doing things that are considered “safe” like outdoor dining.

Tomorrow will be my two weeks after shot number two. I am considering roaming Target willy nilly with no plan.

I’m back...again!

I’m very excited to report that all adults in my family (my parents, me, DH, my brother and SIL and my sister and BIL) have all now received 2 doses of either Moderna or Pfizer. My parents 65+ and my sister (pregnant) are the only ones fully vaccinated...the rest of us were in the “regular people” vaccine group and are various lengths out from our 2nd dose.

To recap, me, DH, and my parents all had Moderna. My parents had no side effects other than a sore arm. I had a sore arm and mild fatigue. My poor DH ended up the worst of everyone with a low grade fever for the entire day after his 2nd shot, along with chills, headache, and sore arm. He also had a large injection site reaction to the 1st shot.

My siblings and their spouses all had Pfizer. My sister had some (short-lasting) chills and sore arm. Her husband had mild body aches and sore arm. My brother just had a sore arm. His wife’s temp was up (but still under 100) for a few hours and she had chills and fatigue.

I noticed that my immediate (blood-related) family had very minimal side effects and our spouses had more noticeable effects. My SIL’s parents also reacted badly. I’m not sure about my BIL’s parents although I do know they’re vaccinated. I just thought that was interesting. I wonder if there’s any scientific reasoning for that or if it’s just coincidental.

I’ve wondered that myself. People I’m blood related to seem to have had very mild side effects.

Just made my 20 year old her appointment for Pfizer for when she returns from college next Friday. Welcome home sweetheart here is you appointment time for your first dose. She is the last one of us to be vaccinated. They offered a chance on her college campus but she plays lacrosse and the second dose was scheduled during a week of 4 games so she declined and will be on her way to vaccination next week. In our house we will have 4 Pfizer, 1 Moderna and 2 J&J's. We spread the love.

For those who have decided to get the shot I thank you. My cousin was the same way but she got her as well.

I wonder if it's coincidental. My parents and my brother all had very minimal side effects from the vaccine. I think the worst was my dad who just felt really tired after his second shot and napped a lot. However, my sister and I had a rougher time. For us, it felt like we had the flu for a day. We were feverish and achy. It went away after 24 hours and was totally worth it, though!
