Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

For those who haven't had a shot yet, my spouse and eldest got 10% off coupons on groceries (up to $200) for getting their shots done at Safeway. Not sure if that was a local Safeway decision or a brand wide one, but if you haven't signed up yet, $20 is $20:)...I shopped while they did their 15 minutes, since they got the coupon right after their shot, and then were told to just stay in the store:)...

We get those for every vaccination we get....flu, shingles, pneumonia.
One time we each had 2 vaccinations, so got 4 coupons.

I know! I got a sticker with my first, but not my second. My dad went somewhere different and got a sticker AND a Spiderman bandaid. I was jealous lol

i got a sticker with my 2nd, but not my first. My son got a sticker with his first (next one is Tuesday), and DH didn't get any stickers at all.

I'm now 4 days post 2nd Pfizer, and I feel absolutely great.

Our site gave out packs of masks, too! I picked up one each time, so we now have 3 packs. If they have them on Tuesday, I'll get another. They are always handy.

I just got my first dose of Moderna 1 hour ago and I'm doing very very well so far

I'm absolutely ecstatic that I got the Moderna vaccine that was the one I really really really really really wanted, in addition it was also, at a local vaccination site, a warm-ish weather day and it was in my left arm which is the arm I also really really really really really wanted.

Sorry if I feel like I'm ranting a bit here, but I'm so super ecstatic right now

I got the Astra Zeneca shot on Tuesday and now I’m freaking myself out as there is 5 cases of the blood clots now in Canada out of 1 million + shots given. That is small but I keep wondering if I should have waited...the last one happened 2 weeks after I am going to be walking on pins and needles until that point.

That been said they want to lower the age to 30 from 40 .....at first it was 55-64. I live in Ontario Canada and are in a stay home order makes me think I should have waited can’t go anywhere but thought it would be months before it got to me since they were stuck at age 60 here with no supply of the other coming to fast. I’m 58.

My husband just says can’t do anything about it now...I’m a worry wort though.

I understand the concern. In the US they are not using AZ, but J&J is very similar (with similar issues) and I would have no problems getting it, even with the small amount of clotting issues. I was actually signed up for J&J, then they announced the pause about an hour after I booked it. I really wanted that one because of the one shot and if it wasn't paused, I would have taken it.

I think you were wise to get the AZ, they keep stressing not to "vaccine shop" and you should take what you can get. Time is critical and we have to vaccinate asap. You did your part to stop the pandemic. Be proud of that.

Wife and I, both late 50's received our first Moderna Shots March 5th and second shots March 26th. Both experienced the sore arm for a few days but no other noticeable side effects for either of us! We are now ready to resume cruising. ;-)

They let you get Moderna shots that close together? I got my first Moderna on 3/31 and they said I can’t come back for the second until 4/28.

Pfizer is 3 weeks between shots, Moderna is 4 weeks. Maybe the poster meant they got Pfizer.

Wiould it alleviate your fears a bit to know how common they are in the general population? (Don't click if it would just make them worse!)

https://www.stoptheclot.org/blood-clot-information/blood-clots-in-the-united-states/
  • 107 to 130 cases of potentially deadly blood clots occurred each year per 100,000 Caucasian individuals from 1985 through 2002. This translates into about 1 to 3 cases per 1,000 people.
These are US statistics, but I'm guessing Canada's are similar. Based on this, 5 people in a million doesn't scare me off the vaccine. But the article has signs to watch for, so of course it's good to pay attention to any weird symptoms.

Moderna is 4 weeks between shots, 4 weeks from today I have my second appointment.

I also didn't get any fancy stuff too, but i'm just so happy that it was Moderna so I can be thrilling about that.

I would of refused to get AstraZeneca if that was being given out, and demanded either Moderna if possible, or Pfizer if for some odd reason Moderna couldn't be given out.

I'm not sure if this site is including the problem that is happening with the vaccines. It is actually a blood clotting disorder known as thrombotic thrombocytopenia syndrome. What makes me question it is the statements from the site I copied below. The vaccine clots are not in the legs or the lungs. They are in the brain. Also, they can't be prevented like the second sentence in bold says seeing that they are a direct effect of the vaccine. Well, they can be prevented if you don't get the vaccines they are linked to. If there is a silver lining to this it would be that now they know what to look for and can treat it appropriately and not with the usual blood thinners.

  • 600,000 non-fatal cases of deadly blood clots occur each year, of which 40% are blood clots in the lungs and 60% are blood clots in the legs.
  • 547,596 hospitalizations due to blood clots occurred from 2007 – 2009.
ON AVERAGE, ONE PERSON DIES EVERY SIX MINUTES FROM A BLOOD CLOT.
DON’T BE ONE OF THEM. BLOOD CLOTS CAN BE PREVENTED.
UNDERSTAND THE RISKS. KNOW THE SIGNS & SYMPTOMS.

The effective date of the state order was January 21.

Editing because I'm not sure what's happened to my post earlier. Anyway -- yes, the rules changed. Florida opened first to anyone 65+ while many other states were doing healthcare workers first (and/or 80+).

My parents got their first vaccination on January 7. I got their tickets via EventBrite and it was like trying to score concert tickets. We had 5 people trying and I'm the only one who even got the site to load. When they showed their Florida ID to check in, the attendant commented that it was nice to have a Floridian get one of the vaccines because people were coming from "all over."

I think they changed the system shortly after that -- to more of a lottery system for appointments and adding the Florida residency requirement.

There was a head medical director of a very large hospital here in Chicago area the other day on the radio during the health segment.

He gave these numbers on blood clots....

  • J&J vaccine---1 per 1.1 million shots given (at the time)
  • 18-50 year old women on birth control---1,000 per 1 million
  • smokers---1,500 per 1 million
  • COVID patients---165,000 per 1 million
I thought those numbers were interesting.

They are interesting numbers; however, when I was discussing it elsewhere and using the same statistics, someone told me that the clots from AZ and J&J are not standard DVT clots that you'd see normally (the type in the stats above). This is a very rare type of clot in the brain that could cause death easier than run-of-the-mill DVT. But yes, it does put them all into a perspective.
