Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

For your experiment (I think it was your post), I'll be taking my 2.5 mile walk again today around lunch, since I feel good enough (and it's my daily thing)...and yeah, compared to Shingrex, so far, this is a breeze, so I'll take the lucky break:)...so here's hoping the walks and anti-inflammatory foods and fluids continue to keep the side effects here to a minimum:)...
Yes, I was the one with the 2.5 mile walk experiment! Although there are only 2 people (you and my DD) enrolled in the study so far. ;)

I had the Moderna shot myself and definitely had some systemic side effects. I'm due for the Shingrix vaccine, and honestly I'm a little afraid now. Maybe I'll give it a go with a 2.5 mile and plenty of fluids ahead of time?

I personally didn't try the walk or fluids for my shots. Weather was bad both shot days and we drove 90 minutes away to get ours (so didn't want to be too hydrated ;)).

To be fair to Shingrex, it's well known the younger you are, the worse you react...b/c of the cancer, I took the shot quite a few years under the 50+ minimum, so I probably had it about as bad as you can get:)...if you will be 50+, you'll probably react better (although it is another series where the 2nd shot gets you more than the 1st:))...

DD said she went to bed feeling fine then got hit with fever and teeth chattering at midnight. So exactly 12 hours later. She still has a fever this morning and a “pressure headache” but says she doesn’t feel that bad.
I'm sorry. The good news is that it should pass quickly.

Fortunately it’s her day off so she can just hang out and chill. If she needs a second day they will give her PTO since it was for vaccination. It sounds like she’s feeling better than she did last night so that’s good. She’s taking some Tylenol and has promised to check in. It’s probably good she’s not here because I’d drive her crazy making a fuss over her. 😂

DD17 is about 24 hours past her 2nd Pfizer. With her first shot, she woke up with a bad nosebleed and we had to go to the ER. That has never happened before. She was very worried about her 2nd shot and I don’t blame her. There was a lot of blood. She didn’t want to sleep last night. I stayed up with her until midnight. No nosebleeds so far. Her arm is super sore and she’s very agitated. I think she’s just really anxious about getting another nosebleed that she’s on edge. She feels fine.

How scary for her! But kudos to her for going back and getting the second shot in spite of her fears. So happy for you both that things have gone well so far!

The nosebleed was really weird since she’s never had one. The bloodwork at the ER didn’t show anything wrong with her platelets. Her pediatrician reviewed all the test results and said she was fine to take the 2nd dose. My daughter was so anxious yesterday. Poor thing. Hopefully she has a better day today :)

I haven't kept up with the whole thread but I may fall into your experimental group. I got my first shot on Monday morning and went for a 2.5 mile walk (which I do every day). Started feeling achy and feverish with a headache later in the evening and didn't sleep well. Yesterday I was achy and feverish most of the day, took a two hour nap then went for my 2.5 mile walk and felt much better! Today I have just a slight headache at times. Overall, way better than shingrix (but I wasn't walking then).

I'm here to vent about Walgreens again. So, DS got his first vaccine over 3 weeks ago, Pfizer. When he set it up online, it made him schedule the first and second dose and automatically put the second at 4 weeks out (even though Pfizer only needs 3 weeks -- I guess they figured it would be easier just in case you wound up getting Moderna). Y'all may remember that I complained here that they also charged him a $2.59 administrative fee instead of passing it onto insurance.

Anyhow, he was scheduled to get the 2nd dose this Friday (4 weeks out) and got an email this morning that it's been canceled! No explanation, just "click here" to reschedule. Of course, NOTHING available there or any other Walgreens in a 30 mile radius in the next week.

I found one for this Saturday at our Kroger that specifically asked if it was a first or second dose and what you previously received. So, it appears he is scheduled the day after he was supposed to get it at Walgreens, but now at Kroger with Pfizer per the confirmation email. He will bring both his vaccination card and the printout from Walgreens which is like a prescription sheet showing that he received Pfizer on that day. I'm hoping they'll accept it and not make him attempt to reschedule at a Walgreens for who knows when.

Thank you, this helps.

During my first shot, the vaccinator used the correct "Z" approach and flattened my skin (she didn't think my deltoid was too small :-)). I felt the needle go in and it felt really weird as she injected the vaccine (not unlike when I get other vaccines). Arm started to hurt a few hours later and was really sore in the middle of the night. I may have had some mild achiness with the first shot but it's really hard to tell if it was from that. I had surgery in early March and I've been non-weight bearing for 6 weeks now. EVERYTHING on my body hurts.

Yesterday when she bunched up/pinched my arm to give the shot I really felt nothing, nor nothing going in and I thought "wow, maybe this is the secret to any easy shot" never knowing that squeezing the arm is not the desired way to give a vaccine.

I keep telling myself that if it didn't go into the muscle and was give subcutaneously, I'd likely be having skin irritaiton from that injection or redness. But I've got nothing.

I'm coming up on 24 hours post injection and nothing. I guess it doesn't really matter anymore. There's nothing to be done about it and if in the worst case my scenario is correct, I'll have to be happy with 80% protection versus 94% or whatever it is.

I know it doesn't sound like it but, really, your post did make me feel like in all likelihood it did go in and I'm just going to have my very first side-effect free vaccination.
I understand. I’m a worrier too and being in the medical field actually makes it worse sometimes (ignorance is bliss😜). If it did go subcutaneously instead of IM, you actually probably would have more local reactions (swelling, possible abscess formation, more pain). So that fact that your arm doesn’t hurt makes it more likely that it did go IM. I didn’t even look when they gave both of mine because I’m a fainter ha ha!

Good to know! I thought the same thing--that if it didn't go IM, I may have had more skin redness. I also ready some study that was done in 2019 (on cadavers of course) that actually said that "bunching" was the better technique on people who are older, have low muscle mass, and BMI under 25. Now I am not "older" by the study's standards (they were using 80 year old cadavers), but I do have a 22/23 BMI and I'm one of those people that are low muscle (endomorph body type maybe??). Anyway, it seemed unusual that in a person with lower body fat that the needle would not penetrate to the muscle, even with bunching. The bigger issues was going in to far, hence, bunching recommended. So maybe I'm okay. I hope so. Just shocked I have no symptoms.

First shot tomorrow. It will be Moderna or Pfizer. Not AstraZeneca, as it will not be given under 55 years old in my province.

Second shot will be the 4th of August, due to the decision made - final say by each province and territory - to stretch out vaccines to closer to four months to vaccinate more of the population. If vaccines start to fly in at a faster pace I am sure that they will revisit that decision.

Done. Massive clinic. Well run. Pfizer given. Was through all steps in about seven minutes. Didn't feel a thing, but then again I didn't expect to, as I use the very same IM needle at home (self-injecting). The nurse obviously has a better angle!

Don't feel any side effects at this point.

Did they say why they canceled the appointment? I got my first Pfizer dose at Walgreens last week and have my second dose schedule for 4 weeks out and I am now freaking out that my second dose is going to be canceled!

To contribute to the data collection, I walk 4-5 miles a day and did on my first vaccination day, as well. My only side effect was a sore arm for a couple of days. I also drink a lot of fluids all day, mostly tea, so I was well hydrated as usual. I'm between vaccinations, so I'll report back after my second dose, too (twelve days to go).

Do you have anyone in your pool who isn't already a heavy walker?

Does anyone know how long you are supposed to wait to get another vaccine after your COVID vaccine? DD17 leaves for college on 5/14 and she needs her last HPV vaccine. She had her 2nd Pfizer yesterday.

The hospital system where I got my vaccine says 14 days. So if she had it yesterday, she should be good to go on or after the 27th of this month.
