For those of you already vaccinated, has anyone experienced stronger symptoms after you get the second vaccine dose?

My wife and I just got our second dose yesterday around 3:30. I had pretty bad cold chills and body aches last night, but today I feel much better. My wife is home with the same issues today. I felt pretty bad yesterday, but it was nothing worse than maybe light flu symptoms. However, I will have to say it is no where near as bad as the actual flu. I would also rather deal with those symptoms than to be hooked up to a ventilator.

I would imagine most are taking these otc meds after vaccinated so this is interesting topic.

The CDC recommends Tylenol and Motrin post vaccination to control symptoms. The idea of not taking a NSAID comes from other types of vaccines. The mRNA works differently than traditional ones.

And it's rough when someone is allergic to both. DH had to tough it out. Although he said he'd rather go through the side effects than COVID.

Got my second shot Tues 3:30 pm.
Wed felt horrible. Felt almost fine when I woke up but as the days progressed I felt worse and worse. Fever, chills, joint pain, no energy, sooo achy. Went to take a nap around noon. After waking up didn’t get out of bed until this morning.
Feeling better this morning.Still called of work, the thought of standing all day doesn’t seem possible. Most of my symptoms have gone but still have a fever and headache. Temp was 100.9 this morning and had been dropping throughout the day.

I had no side effects from the first shot other than a tiny bit of soreness in my arm.

My sister had the second shot the same day. She said she woke up a little nauseous and achy but it went away pretty quick.

Second dose of Moderna went in my arm about an hour ago. Didn't feel a thing. I'll update if I have any symptoms

During the trial did they track whether or not people took one of these after getting the vaccine and did it actually show a decrease in immunity? I was actually encouraged by my ped to give the kids Tylenol after their vaccinations.

This was interesting to me as our pediatrician always told us to give the kids a dose of Tylenol before shots. My kids are 13 and 14. Until reading this I would have never thought that you shouldn't take something before.

They have changed the recommendation about giving kids Tylenol before vaccines awhile ago, there was a study out of Duke university that showed the immune response to vaccination was blunted in kids who took Tylenol or nsaids beforehand—they were still deemed protected but their antibody levels were decreased compared to those who took nothing.

I am in the Novavax vaccine trial and I specifically asked if I could take Advil or Tylenol after the injection and they told me yes.

I had my first does of Moderna a week ago! I am scheduled for my second does 2/19. I am a teacher and was very lucky to get an appointment.

First does: just a SUPER sore arm the night of the shot! Maybe a headache? But that could be from stress.

I am a SUPER anxious person! So seeing this thread is really awesome!

Also, Have been listening to physicians in UK and Europe who agree people vaccinated not to take Tylenol and Advil prior due to vaccine administration for the same reasons See below for Dr. Offit's credentialing. You can catch some of the you tube presentations.
I am not taking any chances and will do what is advised. I'm going for optimal immunity.

Got my second shot Tuesday around 5pm. (Moderna)
I felt fine the rest of that night, felt ok the next morning while getting ready for work. When I got to work I started feeling pretty lousy. Aches and chills like I was really getting sick.
I powered through but when I got home all I could do was lay down. Other than getting up to have supper, I slept from about 6pm to 6:30am, my clothes were covered with sweat when I got up but all my symptoms were gone! No reactions at all to the first shot other than a sore arm.
Even with my aches and chills, I would still take that over Covid!
If I had it to do over I would probably take a PTO day the day after the 2nd shot.

My BIL (an EMT) got his 2nd dose of Moderna earlier this week. He only had some inyjection site pain with the first dose. For the 2nd dose, he said he felt fine for the first 15 hours. Then he had 4-5 hours of a fever of 101.2 and terrible chills. By the time it was time for him to go to work, his fever was down to 99.5 (he's supposed to report as long as his temp is below 100.4) and by mid-morning it was normal but he was exhausted. He said he thinks he could have slept most of the day. By the next day though, he felt fine. He said the same thing as @disneychick0412: "I'll take a day of miserableness over getting COVID."


EDITED 1/29 to add that SIL got her 2nd dose of Moderna yesterday: She also experienced body aches and chills overnight, but only for about 2 hours and said it was manageable with Tylenol. Today she feels a little achy and run down but thinks it'll be a "take it easy" day but she's not exhausted like BIL reported.

I should stand corrected the county did call this week's vaccination clinic a mass vaccination although they had a set number of appointments for the week. Roughly each day about 1,700-1,800 people. That was the county's run event not a state run. They made the decision to use those doses they got last week for this week for leftover healthcare workers and age 80+. That determination for 80+ was made late as right now anyone 65 and older are eligible. Next week is now 65+ and teachers. I did watch a video of yesterday's event where they did some big improvements from Tuesday's event (which was hailed as a disaster though the administering of the shots went well it was other things that were bad) and the elderly were happy, one husband said they would hit up the bar and the wife said "no we're not"

As mentioned in a prior comment hospital systems are reaching out and recommending people who have been patients in the past to look into it if they are 65+ and two hospital systems will be using doses from the county next week to begin this. "Initial vaccines will go to people already in the hospital systems. As the county receives more vaccines it hopes to expand efforts to vaccinate people outside of the hospital systems."

According to the news story "the county will first focus on special education teachers and staff at the Kansas School for the Deaf."

Additionally "School districts will be responsible for identifying who to vaccinate. Teachers interested in receiving a vaccine are encouraged to reach out to their administration." I can't remember for people who are teachers has your area done this as well? Or was it just if you worked for the school you show a badge or something?

One thing I will say is it sure seems we're getting more of the share of doses than we had been and for that I'm thankful.



Highlighted in yellow are doses straight from the state with the rest hospital systems in the area. The state has sent 17,550 doses in the last 2 weeks (from 1/14 and on). Before that it had only been 2,400 for a county population (including kids) of 600K+ and they were 2nd doses to boot (for one of the shipments)

I received the vaccine last week as part of the Pfizer study and was told that I could take Tylenol or ibuprofen as needed after the shot. It’s not something that we need to report, so I do not believe there’s study data on it.

Got my first dose this morning

I had Pfizer. I had a dull headache for about 24 hours and my arm hurts pretty bad with a knot and reddened area. I'm also really sluggish but I work 3rd shift so I'm sleepy a lot, but this seems excessive. Next dose on 2/17. I switched a day with a coworker so I can be off for a few days after my 2nd dose

Edited to add...I was feeling feverish and just checked...99.1. That's high for me as I run around 97.5. And of course I'm at work til 7am. Had a rapid covid test before work so I think it's just the vaccine.
