Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

I hear ya. My sisters and their husbands, all snowbirds who own 2nd homes in Florida have gotten their first shots down there. Friend in Texas has gotten his. Here in SW PA, there are no clinics set up, they are still doing health care workers and nursing home residents (we have a LOT of old people here). DH is over 65 and I would like him to get his vaccine, but it looks like it will be months.

Good luck, I hope you are able to get your husband scheduled soon. My mom is 88 years old with diabetes, high blood pressure, pulmonary fibrosis & early dementia. She is in her own home thanks to my siblings care & determination. We have spent the last 10 months sheltering her in place & praying that none of us who are still working with patients would bring anything to her. I was able to use my Disney website stalking training just like @kimmylaj did to get an appointment for her. She got her first vaccine last week. Plus 3 aunts & uncles in their late 70’s & 80’s also have gotten their first doses. Another one is scheduled in 2 weeks.

My family has been very fortunate. I am an RN & got vaccinated thru work, as have 3 siblings who are also in health care. Another sister is a child care provider & also had her 1st shot. The day after my mom got her shot, I was back stalking the various websites & was able to get an appointment for my 65 yo DH. He got his 1st vaccine yesterday. I am very thankful for the number of family members who are getting their vaccines so quickly. But getting it shouldn’t be like hitting the jackpot. Especially for the very elderly who may not have someone who can stalk multiple websites to get them an appointment.

My kids are in their 30s. The way things are going in NY, it will be fall or next winter before they can get appointments.

I'm over 65 and got my first dose of Pfizer/BioNTech on Friday here in Orange County, FL. No pain at injection site, no reaction.

Inoculations are given at the Orange County Convention Center. The process was easy and they were very organized.

We were hoping to get a vaccine, so we could have Christmas in July with our families to make up for not going up there for Christmas 2020. With the news that Florida will be vaccinating snowbirds from other countries & reports of some hospitals allowing medical tourists to get the vaccine, those of us in the last group may be many months away from getting the vaccine. I hope the Federal government is considering how much of Florida's vaccine allotment is going to non-permanent residents & adjust accordingly. If not, getting one anytime in the summer seems impossible for us. :(

Florida is the most efficient in providing vaccines to those who need it most....healthcare, first responders, over 65, etc. Something like 65%. Other states may want to take notes.

So you think all states should be opening their vaccinations up to non-permanent residents that live in other countries the vast majority of whom are over 65 & will be vaccinated before the general population? I doubt many people in other states would be okay with that.

It may be due to the fact that the first one made them very sick.
Maybe. DH got pretty sick but still went back for more. Some are non compliant and/or scheduling dates may not be convenient. Hey I did the same thing with Shingrix and I knew better. 😔 We went out of town, then it was the holidays...bad planning on my part. Others think a 50% effective rate is pretty good. Not really when two gives you 95% protection. JMO

I don't think Florida is all that efficient. I think Orange County has been.

I don't think it's efficient to have senior citizens queuing up in their cars for 20 hours for a first-come, first served inoculation is good practice. It's gotten better there than when they started but the first day or two, there weren't any toilet facilities available. I can't find the news story about seniors having to relieve themselves behind a tree.

And from what I've been reading, the counties that have their own health departments are the ones doing the best job. There's a story out of The Villages tonight that one facility closed with no explanation. I'm lucky I live in Orange and that I'm over 65.

ETA - I also don't think most seniors need to go first. I'd be happier if every service person I came in contact with had been vaccinated. Every teacher, grocery employee, etc. BTW - Health service workers who don't work inside hospitals haven't been vaccinated. This includes "off site" doctors and nurses, dentists, etc. Makes no sense.

I completely agree with this. I was able to get appointments for my parents 78 and 80 in Florida, and my dad's 80 year old friend in Ohio. My in-laws are in their 70s and will be eligible for appointments at the beginning of February (our state is doing a phased roll-out of the elderly -- over 80 now, over 75 starting next week, over 70 starting the first week of Feb.)

But it's a mad scramble to get the appointments. I feel sorry for any of the elderly who don't have someone younger to help them. All of my old people "use technology" but not like this where time is of the essence. There is a phone number you can call for assistance, but from what I've heard, getting through on that line would be a total miracle.

(Just to add based on the post above. I think here (Ohio) most of the healthcare workers have been vaccinated whether in a hospital or not. My brother-in-law the EMT has. My sister-in-law the nurse in a pediatrician's office has. My friend who goes into schools to do anti-vaping/anti-smoking presentations has been, even though all of her work has been 100% virtual since this began. A friend who is a therapist but has been doing 100% telehealth has been. A friend who works in a dentist office as a receptionist has been. A friend who works in the hearing aid center at a big-box store has been.)

My father, my husband and myself all got our first shots last night. My father and I drove about an hour and 15 minutes to the NYS distribution site at the fairgrounds. It was very well run and organized. My father who is 78 but pretty healthy but does use a cane because he refuses to get the knee replacements was offered a wheelchair since it is a pretty big building and he would have had to walk a decent distance. We both received Pfizer. Our second shots are scheduled for February 8th at the same place (crossing my fingers for no snow storms). My husband received Moderna through our country health department. Based on this and others experiences I believe NY is using Pfizer for the large distribution sites and shipping Moderna to the hospitals and counties. - Just my opinion based on friends experiences. Good luck to everyone who is still trying to make the appointments. My kids will be waiting quite some time but I hope that they will be able to get it in the summer or early fall before colleges go back in session.

has anyone been vaccinated on this thread who has had covid in the past?
Yes there have been reports throughout the pages of people that had COVID and then have started to get the vaccine. Not sure of which posters they were, but there were definitely people here that shared that info.

That would be very frustrating to watch. It's frustrating for me to watch and I don't even live there.

Meanwhile in Missouri, not a single opportunity for anyone to schedule vaccines yet. Not even a bad website to stalk. We have been able to register our contact info so they can tell us when we can sign up, but that's it. It has only been administered to workplaces, facilities and such so far.

I wanted to update my complaint in previous page and say I was FINALLY able to get through on the NYS covid phone line last night. I was shocked! I called on a whim and figured I would get nowhere on a holiday. I waited maybe 3 minutes and the guy was able to find my mom and aunt appoints for this week and the 1st week in February. I was astounded! I think he works some special magic on his end because the online scheduling you do shows no availability. So anyone in NYS, keep trying the number and try at weird hours.

She does have to get down to the Javits center, but it's only an hour and 30 minutes tops. Could be worse. Our local health dept gets minimal doses so she can't rely on that.

Keep trying everyone and cross your fingers the 2 companies keep producing fast enough to keep up with demand.

I was going to post this anyways. It doesn't really help you out because they're supposed to be contacting you from the survey and it doesn't help anyone out because they have no supply but I saw this in the local news yesterday: https://www.kctv5.com/coronavirus/v...-11eb-a4d6-2338ccaaa04b.html?block_id=1013203

In that article they have a link for a map that shows just where the vaccine is and will be available. More sharing just for information than actual aid. KS hasn't released where all these locations for their sites they presently have but I'd actually be really interested in where they are.

Thanks for the link. I really don't understand why they haven't developed some sort of super site. Many of those are pretty small retailers with no capacity for large lines. Maybe after the last game at Arrowhead this weekend? I don't know. Maybe we've just done a more thorough job getting through the front line workers and LTCFs? I get that supply is limited, but it's limited everywhere and other states are finding a way.

I called my doctor's office for a prescription refill yesterday and their voice mail message went on and on about how they don't have vaccine, don't expect to get the vaccine, and please don't clog up the lines asking about the vaccine.

Has Kansas had any general public access yet?

Sure thing!

I thought Arrowhead should be used honestly especially with how it was already used for a polling site so they have experience there. They have both Arrowhead and Kauffman parking lots right next to each other plenty of room for cars to be parked. I know they also were using Worlds of Fun for COVID testing, that's another option though Arrowhead I feel is the better of the two. Heck they could even use both Kauffman AND Arrowhead and really get a lot of people. On the KS side we would have Children's Mercy Park where Sporting KC play...but their parking situation and proximity to The Legends I think would lead to a lot of traffic congestion there..it's an option though to get a lot of people at once.

No KS doesn't have general public access yet. KU Med is supposed to do a clinic for something like 1,000 people but still for healthcare right now. But it stands that they could do the clinic for people in these upcoming phases. According to the state they have 278 sites presently, they have the capacity to double that, they have the means to do mass vaccination sites, they don't have the supply to make it worth expanding beyond what they have.

Supposedly in a few weeks they believe they'll be able to begin Phase 2. JoCo did start up a survey for interest level there. Phase 2 for KS is a large group especially with it including age 65+ so I'm expecting that to take a while.

Thanks for the updates! I really just can't make it all make sense. Do our states have that many more front line and health care workers? Or are other states just shortchanging those sectors and moving on to the over 65's? Did other states get more vaccine per capita?

Meanwhile one of my daughter's roommates is fully vaccinated at 19 because she works 15 hours a week at the hospital. Other 2 roomies have appointments because they do the same. I told her at least she will have her own little bit of herd immunity working soon. But honestly, she's not the one we're most worried about. My 80 and 87 year old parents still wait for even a chance to schedule an appointment. My 87 year old dad has given up almost a full year of seeing family. He doesn't have that many family events left.

I see no way those sites shown online could ever handle the Pfizer vaccine properly. Maybe Moderna? Maybe they're waiting for the J&J vaccine?

The vaccines were allocated based on a state's population so how quickly or slowly you get through healthcare workers will depend on how many healthcare you have in a state and how many choose to get it. Efficiency in distribution is a big one though too but all signs point to both Kelly and Parsons being happy with the way each state is distributing.

I couldn't find the information for KS (I tried) but I did find this chart from mid-December about MO:
550897

The question I have though is are they basing these numbers off of residency or workplace location? In our metro residency doesn't account for much since many people live in one side of the state and work in the other.

I'm so sorry to hear about your parents and really understand their frustration and sadness :(
