Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

My 80-year-old dad and 78-year-old mom got their 2nd doses of Moderna on Tuesday. I was a little worried about them because SIL/BIL had some sort-lived but unpleasant side effects of dose 2 (fever, chills). However, my parents said they think they felt a little more tired and achy than usual... but not enough that they felt like they could "blame it" on the vaccine (sometimes they have tired/achy days anyway). They went to bed early. But other than that, no real side effects from dose 2.

Edited to add: Mom noticed this morning (Friday) that the area around her injection area is kind of red and puffy... but that was one of the possible side effects they mention -- and she says it's not particularly bothersome unless she presses on it.

My parents (82 & 85) got their first Moderna shot yesterday. They live in California. They’d signed up on several lists but were pretty far down by the time they’d signed up (April/May). Yesterday their pharmacist at Vons, where they’d been going for years and years, called them to offer the vaccine because they’d had a couple of no shows. My parents jumped on it because my mom has congestive heart failure, stage 4 kidney failure, high blood pressure and diabetes. She’s lost a bunch of weight over the last few years and is holding steady, but covid would probably do her in. Thank goodness their pharmacist thought of them!

Wow! So after my second dose yesterday I posted I was achy but no fever.

Overnight I had fever, aches, chills, blech! Definitely a worse reaction to second dose, but overall, still nothing that should stop anyone from getting vaccine. I still have a slight fever, but the sore arm is much better and I'm starting to feel better overall.
But are you still craving chicken? :rotfl2:

Thank you for all the responses. With so many with feeling yucky for a day or two, I'm concerned us getting vaccines at the same time. My DD doesn't think she can snag two at once anyway. I'm looking, she's looking. No luck yet.

DH and I are getting ours at the same time........but not until the end of the month.
We don't usually take care of each other when sick anyway......we would rather just be left alone.

It would depend on what you do but Fridays help because then you have the weekend if you're a M-F worker. My best friend just got her first shot in the county next to me, she works for Target but got it through the County but because she's in retail (they are eligible in that county and through the state as they are counted in this phase we're in). She's not bad right now but said she's keeping in mind her second shot because for her she's not missed a day of work in 4 years.

I texted with my mom last night. She had her first dose of Pfizer at 9 am yesterday. She said she was dizzy for a few hours after and then felt fine but then by 5 last night she was feeling crummy. I didn't get any other explanation from her other then crummy.

She is a teacher and her county did a mass vaccination of teachers yesterday. Every school in the county had off so that the teachers could get the vaccine. They will do this again in a few weeks for the second dose. They are doing this at the 2 biggest schools in the county. Hers being one of them. She said it really smoothly. She got there at 8:55 had the shot by 9 and out the door by 9:10.

I got my first dose of Moderna yesterday afternoon! Barely felt the shot and had no issues during the mandatory 15-minute wait. Felt fine until after dinner and just felt pretty tired. Went to bed early and woke this morning with a sore arm similar to the flu vaccine (maybe a little worse or maybe I'm just hyper sensitive to any changes!)

I am planning to take a sick day after my 2nd dose, just to let my body rest. I am so happy to have the opportunity to get vaccinated (I am a teacher) and ready to get past this!

The CDC asks for symptoms after the shot. On the 3rd day after my first Moderna shot, I had malaise. That’s my medical term for crummy. (Day two was spent on the couch with diarrhea, generalized fatigue and muscle aches.)
Got my second dose an hour ago. Now I have the tiniest sense of impending doom.

Yesterday I drove DH to get his 2nd dose. Last month he "did time" in post-op physical rehab and was able to get the first dose earlier than most. Yesterday he was the last person vaccinated and they had one extra dose. Rather than let it go to waste they gave it to me. I had been scheduled for the vaccination at a different location in two weeks, 40 mins drive, with a 1:30 a.m. (yes, middle of the night) appointment because that was the best available. So much easier to get it in the afternoon at a much closer facility, and the 2nd dose will be at the same place.

No, but I'm eligible for a vaccine as part of Lifestreams Volunteer Program. I guess I'm considered a frontline worker because of that.

I'm holding off on the vaccine though, not because I don't trust it, but because I don't feel like I'm a priority to have it. I'm young and healthy, and even if it's only one vaccination, that's one vaccination that could be going to someone who needs it a lot more than I do.
I say get it.

I say get it.
Agreed, I have zero issues with people who are eligible getting it, too many people decide to be altruistic about it, as much as that is normally considered a good thing, the less a community has on protection. Now is the time to think about the big picture. The communities need to have people protected so stop thinking "I'm young, I'll get it later, someone else needs it more than me" this is about protecting everyone and you can hopefully achieve that by getting it regardless of your age and health status. The poster is also as they say a frontline worker they stand to be highly exposed to people and could innocently pass it to someone else if they get it.

Totally agree. When you're eligible, get the shot. People can discuss policy and have issue why it's set the way it is, but if you qualify, you should get the shot.

You should get it. Think of it as protecting your clientele as well as yourself.

Many thanks to everyone here on this thread for listening and enduring my rants while trying to get my parents vaccinated. I have been on a mission of late calling and signing them up anywhere even remotely reasonable. Less than a week ago, I signed them up in a neighboring county and got a call a couple days ago for an event being held today. They just called and are on their way home from getting their first Moderna vaccine! Very happy day here! :cheer2: :flower1:
