Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

As I said previously I had covid in October/November. It was a very mild case.

I got my first moderna shot Friday around 2 pm.

The shot didn’t hurt much at all. About 6 hours later my arm was sore. This was about 8 pm. I started to get a bit of a headache and at 2 am Saturday morning I took Advil. Around 9 am the headache returned and I took more Advil. By 10 am I started feeling pretty fatigued. Like I could take a nap and I had just woken up. Throughout the day I would have a wave of a chill here and there. By 8 pm I had full on body aches and constant chills. No fever but it was bad. I couldn’t sleep. My body ached So bad it hurt to move positions at night. The chills were so uncomfortable.

I just woke up for the day and I’m back to normal thankfully. This was way worse than when I had covid. I did tell my SO that I don’t know if I want to get the second shot. Especially if it’ll be worse than yesterday.

I think when I go in for second shot, I'm going to start taking Ibuprofen before I get the shot and just take on schedule for two days.
Maybe that will keep the pain and fever in check!

My arm hurt really bad and I felt achy/tired/feverish the next day after first dose, but it was no big deal for me as that also happens with the flu shot.

Per the CDC website the doses don’t need to be exactly 21 or 28 days apart. There is a 4 day grace period for giving it early and no exact end date.

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/info-by-product/clinical-considerations.html
Administration
The mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series consist of two doses administered intramuscularly:

Pfizer-BioNTech (30 µg, 0.3 ml each): 3 weeks (21 days) apart
Moderna (100 µg, 0.5 ml): 1 month (28 days) apart
Persons should not be scheduled to receive the second dose earlier than recommended (i.e., 3 weeks [Pfizer-BioNTech] or 1 month [Moderna]). However, second doses administered within a grace period of 4 days earlier than the recommended date for the second dose are still considered valid. Doses inadvertently administered earlier than the grace period do not need to be repeated. There is no maximum interval between the first and second doses for either vaccine. Therefore, if the second dose is administered >3 weeks after the first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine dose or >1 month after the first Moderna vaccine dose, there is no need to restart the series. Vaccine administration errors should be reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

I don’t get the flu shot so I’m not used to this. I also rarely get sick and the only time I had a fever and bad chills is the one time I had the flu years ago.

If this vaccine becomes a yearly thing like the flu shot I won’t be getting it every year.

I don’t know if this is still related to the vaccine but yesterday I remained with a dull headache all day. No pounding. Just a dull achy headache. Ibuprofen and Tylenol cleared it up. I still have it this morning.

I also woke up twice last night completely drenched in sweat. No exaggeration when I say my shirt was drenched twice. When I checked my shirts this morning they were still soaking wet. My sheets had to be changed twice. My hair was soaked and I have a lot of hair. I’m young. This isn’t “the change.” Lol. It freaked me out a bit. My SO was a bit worried too. Especially since I had to wake him up twice to change sheets.

ETA: I’ve been checking my temp through this all and no fever. I’ve been under 99. Even on Saturday night when I had the chills.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure you'll get through this. Please keep us updated.

I have not but in my state the next group (after frontline / elderly) is the high risk population. Which includes people over a certain BMI with health issues such as heart disease. Come to find out for the first time in my life being fat and unhealthy MIGHT just save my life. And I urged everyone around me to start eating more around the holidays in order to save themselves. :teeth:

But ya my state sucks though, they decided that an "honor" system was a great idea so who knows. lol

Yeah, my cancer has this kinda symptom if you progress in the cancer...normally, non-hormonal night sweats imply your immune system is in overdrive fighting something off...in your case, the vaccine. This would be a symptom I would mention to the vaccine folks.

My husband is a teacher in Ohio, and this morning, the superintendent sent out a link for teachers to fill in their scheduling preferences for getting the vaccine. They aren't allowed to do it during school hours, so I'm not sure how he expects the entire staff to be vaccinated before he wants the district to have *all* students return in mid-February...?

My mom (a teacher in Ohio) as of Friday has not heard anything about the vaccine. But if they can't go during the day or have someone come to the schools I am not sure how they will get them all done in a timely manner. As of right now her school is hybrid.

I Got my 2nd dose Thursday. 1st dose I had a headache for about 48 hours. 2nd dose I had a low fever while on ibuprofen, headache and bodyache for 24 hours.

I would say the 2nd dose was on par with what covid felt like.

I contacted them and our hospital epidemiologist suggested acetaminophen or NSAIDs, rest and fluids. They said most everyone fared well with these treatments. Then the usual spiel on if you have difficulty breathing call 911. If it gets worse call employee health. And they recommended i report my symptoms to the V-safe app. When I received my vaccine they did give us paperwork regarding this site.

I'm going to be soooo interested on your 2nd dose. Hopefully it goes better.

Yeah, I was thinking they would try to coordinate with the local health system and maybe cancel classes on a Friday and have stations set up in the gym or something. Guess not!

Update: received notice today that the assisted living and independent living residents at the CCRC where my mom lives will receive 1st vaccine on Thursday 1/14/21. Assisted living was scheduled originally with CVS on 1/24/21, but management contracted with a different provider, Prescriptions to Geaux for the earlier date. I am very glad to see this happening.

I know it’s been repeated. But, seems worth repeating here.
You could still get infected with the virus even with the vaccine.

And this vaccine will not have an effect on 5% of the population.

Oh please, I know that. And I'm sure you know what my post meant, but apparently I'll spell it out. I'd rather get the shot and have a day of aches than not get the shot and get the flu or covid which could end up being quite severe if I didn't have the vaccine.
