Have you ever wanted to stop by a resturant and ask the people sitting there eating how the food is? Being a cheap foodie I want to eat the best meal for the best price. I have read hundreds of reviews and one person will rave on and on about a certain resturant only to have 5 people in the next post who had a terrible experience. :upsidedow

The problem is that what people value is often very different. When I read a review, I try to get a feel for the person who wrote the review, especially (but not exclusively) that person's tastes. If they match mine, then I trust the review. Otherwise, I discount it. So stopping folks just coming out of a restaurant won't really help much, unless, for example, they happen to be wearing the same shirt and pants! :rotfl:

In most cases stopping by a restaurant and asking people while they were eating there would be rude. How would like to be interrupted by total strangers while you were eating. I can see some exceptions though. And also as they were exiting a restaurant and not totally engage in conversation would be more appropriate.

Having said that, I agree with Bicker on all accounts. I even do this with professional restaurant reviewers. Especially with newspaper reviewers.

I had assumed that the OP was talking about asking guests that have departed a restaurant, not going into the restaurant and inquirying. If that was the OP's question, I'd agree that it isn't really a good idea.
