Have you ever taken a spontaneous trip to WDW?

My husband forgot Mother's Day the year my youngest DD was born. We were on a plane down just 2 days later. I think he learned his lesson, of course I wouldn't mind if he forgot again this year!

In 2003 we had a late February trip all planned (we had only decided on it during the Christmas Parade). However, after a little over a month the waiting was getting to be too much. I went to work on Friday--- asked if I could move my vacation up to that very next week and we left the following morning. I can honestly say it was our best trip too.

We've done lots of other trips like that, just not to WDW. There has been at least a dozen times in the last few years I called DH up at lunchtime and we were on the road that evening to some destination.

I have no patience, so I don't like to have to wait real long for something. I'm on vacation May 4th- May 15th. I'm going somewhere-- don't know where yet. I have a huge airline credit and several ideas for both flying and driving. Just don't have a destination set yet. We'll see where we end up. I don't think WDW though-- DH and I are going there for our first ever trip alone this August.

Did it 2 years ago
Booked tixs on Dec 29th, left on Jan 2nd

Last year we booked Dec 1st for Jan 3rd

My very first trip to WDW was sort of spontaneous. It was back in 2000 and was just my DS (12 at the time) and me. Basically, I was tototally clueless. Our TA got us a room as ASM and I booked our airfare. All in all, though, it turned out great! That first walk in MK to the Tomorrowland area really took me back to the Wonderful World of Color Disney TV show that I saw when I was a lot younger.

Just got back from a spontanious trip.
Booked 6 days out. Even got great air fare and great hotel price.
Spontanious is fun but the anticipation and planning for months is actully more fun for us.

but the shortest time frame was 2 weeks. However, with the new AP Best Rate Program I will no longer feel comfortable taking spur of the moment trips.

THANKS DISNEY.

Well... I just booked our trip to WDW yesterday and our trip is for next week! I couldn't wait for August to get here, so we are now going next week and August!

My DH decided a week ago that he couldn't wait til October, so we're going two weeks from today. He got a great rate on Southwest and decided that he needed a break from work, so off we go. My DH hates flying so he obviously needs this break badly! :)

In October 2001, DH and I were both starting new jobs and weren't sure when we would next be able to take vacation. We decided on a Tuesday to leave on Thursday for a long weekend. We were able to get a room at BWV using out DVC points and had vouchers to use on Southwest so it cost us next to nothing. Since this was shortly after 9/11 the parks were empty. We didn't tell many in our family what we were doing as many of them would have advised us against flying then. It was a great unplanned trip!

I can attest to Boston1029's reply, seeing as though I'm the DH she was referring to. I absolutely hate flying. But with the SW deal out of Baltimore, it's actually cheaper to fly than drive{not to mention about 30 hours less total travel time}. Now we have 4 days instead of 2 days in the parks. As I sit here at work listening to Park Hopper Radio on Live365.com{a station & a site I HIGHLY recommend by the way}, I can't wait to get on that plane{sort of}. Knowing that Thursday I'll be at work smashing my head against my desk, and then Friday morning we'll be eating breakfast at Kona & then heading over to MK for some Dole Whip & Mickey Rice Krispie treats, it makes it a little more bearable. pirate:

I have booked as late as four hours. Came on the DIS to ask for advice (Bad idea, everyone said GO! LOL!)

Booked a DVC studio and SW Rapid Rewards ticket, left work early and was GONE!

I still do pretty quick. Have a business trip next week in Orlando. Called WDW yesterday and got a AP rate at the YC starting Sunday

We did!

We had spent Christmas in Atlanta and then we were supposed to spend 3 days(including New Year's) in the Ocala area. Well, our hotel was at the same exit in Ocala as the Disney Welcome Center. My husband turned right into the Welcome Center instead of Left for our hotel - "Just to check". The next thing I know, we are the proud owners of 4 - 5 day hoppers and the 3 night stay (rack rate- ouch) at the CB! It was a great trip!

What a great thread! I'm getting a rush reading these stories. My most spontaneous was about 3 weeks... my husband was constantly busy on a writing project and needed time alone. We were planning to get pregnant with kid #2. And it was a very very cold winter. And the previous year had been a very, very hard year. So I said to dh, look, I have a plan for me and dd to get out of your hair so you can write-- we'll go to Florida for four days. I need this trip and I want a special alone time with dd while she is still an only child. He said yes which was good since I'd actually confirmed the trip with CRO. It was an amazing trip, a great mother-daughter time.

However, at the very last minute dh suddenly was sorry he wasn't going even though initially he didn't care. Tried to get him to come down for a day or two, but the Iraq war was set to break out any day and he didn't want to be away from his newspaper, so he stayed. (And the war didn't start for 2 or 3 more weeks.) So we ended up feeling a little guilty for going without him.

I'm not sure I can even be more spontaneous than 3 weeks or so, but I might try surprising the kids some time.
