Have you ever run out of gas?

I did once.....out in Colorado on I 25 on the way home from Denver to Ft Collins. It was late at night and I was by myself no less. A nice policeman helped me out, tho.

I have never run out of gas since then.....25 years ago!

I ran out of gas in 1986 by a service station. Good, right? NO....the gas refiller truck had not been there and they had NO GAS!! I had to call my Dad.


I barely get to a quarter tank and I fill up.

I have twice. Once no where near a gas station, but a relative brought me some gas.
The second time I was on the way to an emergency vet for my puppy, and ran out of gas at the gas pump. Thankfully it was right there and I made it on fumes.

I haven't yet, but I probably will sooner or later. That's because I seem to get lazier and lazier everytime I have to get gas and let it go down closer to empty each time.

DH never runs out of gas.

DH ran out of gas ONCE, and it cost us a bundle because he didn't think to look at the gas gauge. He called AAA and had it towed to a repair shop, and by the time they diagnosed the problem (3 days later), the bill was up to $150.00.

How much do you want to bet that he doesn't run out of gas again???

Not me! I ran on E for about 15 miles until I found a gas station.

I was lucky. The last time I ran out of gas was in my Prius and I was able to run on the battery until I found a gas station. Now, however, rather than risk the gas station is a little farther than the battery will take it, I fill up when the tank gets to 1/4 or the mileage gets to 400.

Nope, never have. Come close a few times. I forget to get gas sometimes.

I ran out of gas the first day I got my license and went driving alone!

About 6 months before I turned 16, my dad's appendix ruptured. His car at the time was a Fiero (a little sports car). The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with my dad for a week, so by the time they took his appendix out, his stomach was in really bad shape and he couldn't stand getting in and out of that tiny car. So he got himself a Jeep and left the Fiero sitting in the driveway until I could drive it. I guess while it was sitting there for 6 months something happened to the gas guage, and from that point the car ran out of gas when the guage said that there was still 1/4 tank left. I learned that the hard way.

The worse part was that I was driving to my best friend's house and ened up walking the last 1/2 mile. Her dad was the youth minister at our church, and the pastor was there at the time. I wanted to keep the experience quiet, but they thought it was better to tell everyone.

What a story Kermit!!!

My DS just got his license about 5 weeks ago and drives a car where the gas gauge stops working when it reaches half a tank......so far DS has been lucky in "guestimating" when to get gas!!!

My ex and I ran out of gas about 100 yards from the entrance to the gas station. He had to push it to the pump.

Maggie, your story reminds me of the time I traded in my old run down car for a "better" car. The old run down one literally died just outside the parking lot so BF and I pushed it into the parking lot and hurried in to get the keys to the newer car BEFORE the dealer changed his mind on the trade in deal!!!!
