Have you ever run out of gas?

Yes, once! I learned my lesson, previous poster!:rolleyes1

TC:cool1:

Yes but no... I had a pick up truck with 2 gas tanks. I thought the gas guage broke because i kept putting gas in but it wasn't moving everyday I'd put 5$ in just in case.. well on the way to work one day it "ran out of gas" I didn't understand how because I had just put gas in.. I thought something else went wrong. My dad was driving by and saw me stranded on the side of the road. He took me to work and then went back to my truck.. I did not know it but I switched it to the back tank.. he said he flipped the switch and it was on F.. so yes I ran out of gas with a full tank of gas.. :)

No. I am paranoid so I fill up at about an 1/8 of a tank. My husband, on the other hand, likes to tempt fate.

I have twice in my life. Once, the gauge was broken and the other time my husband had left the tank so low that I didn't even get off my block!

DH, on the other hand, probably runs out of gas several times a year. Good thing we have AAA.

You were talking about fuel right? Because if you mean *gas* gas, then that's something we never run out of around here. :rolleyes1

only once, because the float in my gas tank wasn't working properly and the gas hand showed 3/4 of a tank when it was actually empty. i had just bought the car and was driving it home from the lot when this happened, so they sent a tow truck for me and fixed the problem, no charge. never had another minute's trouble out of that car. i miss it.

LOL yes fuel!

I ran out once in high school,
and now I can add I suppose yesterday :)
I push the limit too, don't know why I just hate pumping gas. I try to go to full serve, but they are few and far between, but I usually stop when it gets to 1/4
hubby has been warning me not to even let it get that low in winter.........
well yesterday it was just a hair below 1/4 prob closer to 1/8 and it sputtered and stopped!!!

luckily I was close to home and he brought me gas.........and it started up.
so I am wondering if my gauge is off, or if there is something else wrong with the car, like a clogged fuel filter.

I don't think I "technically" ran out of gas, but he has been teasing me that I did :)

Once!! I had to wait till I got my check and I was right in front of the gas station and ran out on the road!!
I had a lot of people honking and yelling at me, finally I got mad and yelled back "IF YOU WANT ME OUT OF YOUR WAY THAN HELP ME!!" I was frustrated that people were so mean about it. then 2 nice men heard me and pushed my car the rest of the way into the gas station. I was by myself and no way was I going to be able to push and drive the car..I learned my lesson and NEVER did that again :guilty:

I ran out of gas once when I was 16 and driving my dads corvette. I was told to pick it up from being serviced and drive it home and put it in the garage. Well, that was hard for a 16 year old to do. Instead, I drove by my boyfriends house first, which was about 20 miles round trip, then I headed home. Well, the thing showed that I had 1/4th a tank left so I didn't worry, but as soon as I pulled back onto the highway, it jerked a little and then it quit. This was before I had a cell too. (telling my age here lol) So a lady pulled over to help me and I called my mom's boss to send someone to help me. He was the owner of the car auction where my mom worked & where the car came from.

Kenny, my mom's boss, got me good! He sent these two huge guys out and they messed with the car, knowing all along that the gage was messed up. At one point the dash would not even light up. :scared1: I just knew it had gas & now these men have torn this car up, which by the way I was told that if I ever put a scratch on I should just light it on FIRE! lol I was scared to death. After all of that, they said "well, Kenny said to put gas in it, so lets try that". It cranked right up. :rotfl2: I was shaking in my shoes and drove ever so carefully home and put the car up. :lmao:

They all got a good laugh, and it's funny to me now, but that was one of the most terrifying times in my life! :rotfl2:

Yes, unfortunately. And I still keep pushing my luck. My car has a digital display that tells me how many km I have left before it runs out, and I will take it down to 33km before I give in. I have thrill issues. ;)

I used to push it when I was younger but I miraculously never actually ran out.

Now I just fill up every weekend when I am visiting my parents because gas is cheaper there.

33 really, I like to wait until it says 5km. I figure there is always a gas station within 5 km :lmao:

To answer the original question, no I have never run out although it was close once. I was driving through an isolated Indian reservation in Northern Alberta, it was a short cut to Llyodminster. I blew 2 tires, it was minus 45 plus windchill and I was in the middle of no where with an Aussie friend (not use to the cold) and my 2 month old. Cell phones don't work there, but someone went by and offered to call a tow truck when she found coverage. I was smart enough to ask her to have them bring fuel as well as an extra spare (I only had 1). We had to run the engine for heat. It was 4hrs for the tow truck to arrive, and another 1.5 hrs to drive to town on silly spares. Without the extra fuel we probably would not have made it. Once new tire were on it I realized that I had lost a hubcap.

Took the same route home and slowed down at the tire spot to stop and look for the hubcap, I hit a deer. Luckily I was slowing down. The damage was minimal and I was able to drive home. I never used that "shortcut" again.

When the light comes on or the bell dings, it means there is "some gas" left. I know because i read it in the manual. That means I don't have to get gas yet!!

And yes, I have had to walk before. Several times.

One important lesson in life: When the low fuel light comes on in an S-10 truck, stop and get gas immediately! You might not be able to go further than just 5 miles. It was a long day that day.

Not yet, and I am amazed that I haven't. Like someone else said, I have thrill issues! The thought of having to call my Dad and have him bring me gas + a lecture is what makes me stop to fill up though!

Once. On the way back from the pediatrician's office with 3 kids in the car, (8, 5, & less than a year old). Little guy was sick and I thought I had enough gas to get there and back. Guess not. For about 2 years, every time we got in the car, the one who was 5 would insist that I stop at the first gas station we passed, just in case.
