Have you ever reported another driver?

I've called twice - unless you have the license # the MD state troopers can't do a thing about it.
Would have called yesterday but the car that passed me on the shoulder didn't have a tag! (We were coming down a mountain & had just left a red light - the rollback in front of me blocked him from passing anyone else ::yes:: )

I did call a couple of months ago - I was south bound on a controlled access interstate. There was an elderly woman creeping north along the left hand shoulder - she was on an overpass where there was no shoulder. I could see the panic on her face. I don't know why she didn't just stop on the shoulder before crossing that bridge. She would have had to travel several miles before the interstate turned to a dual higway where she could cross over.
THe police were thrilled to hear from me - they knew she was out there & asked where I had seen her & how long ago. Thankfullly they were able to safely get her off the interstate. They must have gotten her right after I called because the radio report said they were waiting for her family at the shopping center at that exit. I hope that was her last outing as the driver. She must had to have been on going the wrong direction on that interstate for a couple of miles.

We call alot but nothing ever comes of the calls ...they're are LOTS of idiots here....

Honestly, it depends on what you are calling for, if the area cars are all ready busy, and if there are other calls holding. There is a limited number of police officers out there. Yes it may be frustrating, but that is the truth. Some things do have to happen in the officer's presence and some things don't. It's up to dispatch to determine the severity of the call, and whether anything can really be done about it.

I have called the police before when I saw either 1--people who drove as though they were impaired and 2 when I see kids not in a carseat.
Actually I was asked by 911 to follow the car til the police showed up in the case of the impaired driver.

Bumcat--you are so right about the drivers here. My oldest is getting his license soon and I'm really worried about him because the drivers would just as soon run you over.

Also once for a drunk, I called, followed behind till squad came along from my 911 and then left it to them.
I've done this numerous times too. :( Drunk drivers are the worst.

Hey Dan...I've been front ended also...but at a stop sign, by someone who started out straight and then decided right was better, so they backed up. In that situation I was very lucky there was no damage, because he could have easily claimed I had hit him...not a witness in sight of course.

To the OP....what if he had been carrying a bigger gun? This whole situation seems to be fraught with disastrous possibilities. I am going to definitely taking this posters advice:

As hard as it is, I try to let these things go. It's not worth dying over.

I call on a lot of drivers I see acting like nuts! The police here seem to appreciate it. I don't know if they have ever caught any of them, but it makes me feel better.

There has been a few times that I should of. We pulled up to a toll booth on the way to Cocoa Beach and the car next to us, had an infant sitting on the passengers lap. No carseat in the car. But I figured FHP wouldn't do anything. And then there was the time we were driving down I4 to WDW and there was a motorcycle that though he was in a stunt show, he was doing a wheely (how ever you spell it) and standing on the seat of his bike at the same time. When he finally put the bike down he flew down the road, I would say going at least 80-90 mph.

I have called in the locations of very obviously impaired drivers.

And once I wrote a letter to the safety manager of a trucking company about a particularly aggressive truck driver, who had been tailgating, whipping in and out of lanes and actually forced one car off the road. I included the truck's ID number, license plate, time of day, location (including mile markers), and descriptions of the various actions I saw... I do know that the driver was terminated from that company. He's probably driving again for someone else now.

around here the police won't even come to take a report once you've had an accident unless the damage is serious enough. i never bothered to report people b/c if i did i would be calling every day and also i always figured they wouldn't do anything about it.

Yes, I've reported several drunk drivers and the police have arrested them everytime.

If I had a dollar for every time I got reported...

sigh.

Herc, I always said that an armed society is a polite society.

4greatboys - It will be nerving wrecking for you! I have two girls that drive now. My 17 yr old was runned off the feeder the other night by an 18 wheeler around I-10 where it is under construction. He didn't want to slow down and came over in her lane. She cried like a baby when she finally got home. I pray more now that's for sure!

I understand the good reasons for "telling" om someone, but I dont do it, "finks' in my neighborhood is not considerded a good quality

In Jersey we have *77, which is an anonymous number. You give the plate number and where the driver is headed. It's more or less for aggressive drivers, though, and I HAVE called it.
I felt that I needed to, because the driver seemed to be drunk or something-He kept swerving into the lane my boyfriend was driving in, almost hitting us a few times before my boyfriend slowed down drastically and we got his plate and a good view of the car to describe it.
I don't know how I could deal with myself if I had done nothing and heard later that he actually had hit someone and injured them, or worse.
