Have you ever recieved an unexpected inheritance?

not me, but, when DH's grandmother died, he inherited 75 acres of land. it wasn't totally unexpected, as he is the only grandson, and land passes down through the men in his family, but still a bit of a surprise. DH's aunt & uncle got a copy of the deed and took it to an attorney to try to sue us for it, but the attorney told them it was ironclad, and there was nothing they could do. we don't make any money off of it; in fact, it costs us several hundred dollars in property taxes each year; however, DH adored his "nanny" and took excellent care of her after his grandfather (who was his favorite person growing up) died, so it means a lot to him to have the family land.

i will never inherit anything from anyone in my family. my mother can't even pay her bills every month (my DGM helps her; mom will really be up a creek when DGM dies, because none of the rest of us can afford to support her), and my dad's 3rd wife will get what little he has. there was a time when each of us would've gotten a small amount of money from my DGM, but i'm pretty sure all of that has been spent keeping my mother afloat.

I'm in the process of getting some right now. I have no idea how much. Apparently, my mom had an insurance policy that nobody knew about. My sister is the executor, so she's working on it. I'm sure it won't be a huge amount, but it's still an unexpected gift.

Not and inheritance but my biological father had $450 lefter over in insurance, so my sister and i each got half.
I am sure had he remembered he had it, he would of made sure to claim it and spend it, instead of it going to us.

Yes, but not in the way you probably meant. I have inherited a genetic predisposition for colon cancer and heart disease.

I would have been happy with some costume jewelry.

My great aunt (by marriage to my great uncle) passed several years ago. They could not find me or my brother at first as her lawyer had spelled our last name wrong in the will. When all the paperwork and dust settled, we received a very nice chunk of inheritance that paid off our house and vehicles and created a substantial investment portfolio and college fund for the kids. It was truly a blessing to our family, and although we have spoiled ourselves a bit with a boat and travel trailer, I still coupon, substitute teach for extra money and check out thrift shops and yard sales.
