Have you ever ordered a birthday cake during your cruise?

I just realized that my husband's birthday falls during our cruise--I feel really badly that I didn't figure it out before--D'oh! :guilty:

I've read some old threads where people have requested a cake at dinner--has anyone done this recently? Do you need to request before you sail? Is there any kind of choices I should know about? And is there an extra charge. It would be fun to surprise him--he wouldn't expect it all all.

What you need to do is let your Server know the first night which night is your husband's birthday, and they will provide a birthday cake after dinner. You can have it put on your reservation beforehand, but I would still mention it to your Server. It's a pretty nice cake. The only options I was aware of is that they do make a gluten free birthday cake you can order. It's a spice cake, and was pretty tasty.

Here's a picture of the regular cake that I got on the Magic last year:

I concur, Just make sure they note your reservation with it so that it is listed there. Also let your dining room host know ahead of time and that you want a cake. They will make sure one is ready for you on the day you chose.

I think it is also fun to bring birthday party items to decorate your stateroom. Let your stateroom host also know and maybe they will do something "Magical" for him. You can buy a birthday package to have setup in your stateroom but I prefer to bring my own and decorate the room while he is gone. You can even get a card and/or button from guest services for him to wear throughout the day or the entire cruise so everyone knows its his birthday!

Have fun and go all out! It will make for a terrific and unforgettable day!

I thought I had read that DCL was not providing a cake anymore. I thought you now have to order and pay for a cake to be delivered.

I hope somebody can verify.

When we booked we just told them we were wanting to celebrate my dh and dd birthday and they asked what day we wanted to celebrate. Not sure what they plan on doing but I'm sure it will be interesting.

You do have to pay for cakes. However a comp small piece of cake or a special dessert will be delivered to your table. A full size cake can be purchased separately though I believe without having to buy the complete birthday package but I am not 100% sure of this.

I suppose we don't need a full size cake--just a special dessert would be nice. I'll pack my own decorations--good tip!

sayhello--that is an awesome picture--sad they don't do that anymore. The beautiful ship decoration on the top is just gorgeous.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.:)

Under "Gifts and Amenities" on the DCL site there is a "Celebration Cakes" section and an order form. A cake for 4-6 people is $25. You can also get a Mickey cake for $55 or "special" cakes that start at $32 that you get to chose the flavor and filling.

We were on the Dream on 11/6 and this is what we ordered for my 4 year old's birthday:

Happy Birthday
Item 1169: Happy Birthday, $49

It was great because they decorated the room for us, and the cake was big enough for all 6 of us to share. The cake was pretty yummy too. The cake is in the room the first day you board though. In our case, my son's birthday was the next day so we just put it in the fridge until then and it was fine, but it might not work for some longer cruises. He also got the free mouse dessert after dinner the day of his birthday.

oh, that's too bad! When did that happen?

Thanks. It was really nice. Wonder why they stopped?

My friends ordered a wonderful Nemo Birthday Cake. The cake was great and the celebration truly memorable.

Since my daughter was only turning 6 on our October cruise we just celebrated with the dessert DCL provided. But as previous posters have said you can order cakes at an additional fee. DCL has a order form you can use on their site and fax it in our you can let your server know. With all the food on the Dream I just thought it would be a waste to order a cake. And my DD's Birthday wasn't until the end of the cruise so I didn't want a cake sitting in my fridge.

Just to clarify: even when they do / (did?) bring a big piece of cake for the birthday person in the dining room, it was only for the one person - not for the whole family. Oh course, you could share the one piece. Years ago, they brought DS the same cake as pictured at the start of this thread.

My Dh is giving me this cruise for my 40th, but my 40th does not fall during the cruise. We had to go during a school break. I did note it in the ressie with the TA, so that DH would 'get credit' for it being a birthday gift, but I don't really need a whole cake. If it were for a child, whose birthday was actually on the cruise, I would order a full cake.

We celebrated my daughter's aopition on cruise ans the staff was great not only did they give hae a cake but also gifts from the gift shop(pins and stuff animals).
four years ago my son comiited to scholarship(only partical) to play play baseball at Boston College and agian the staff as great surpising him(not requested) with a cake

With all the food on the Dream I just thought it would be a waste to order a cake.

I understand your thinking here--it seems like from what I've read we're going to be neck-deep in food. Not that that's a bad thing...;)

Got it--thanks. I have been having fun looking at the order form for the cake but I'm still not sure if I'll do it--just because of the "lots of food" thing and the fact that I think I can pack a nice little birthday kit of my own to take, and then just tell our server about his birthday ahead of time for whatever little comp dessert they do now. Plus I'm trying to keep extra expenses down for this trip.

I did not know you could get a birthday button at Guest services--I will definitely do that. I wonder if it's the same one as you get at the DL resort.

My sister and I went on cruise for her birthday last year. They gave a free piece of cake on the day of our choice. but it was in addition to the desserts we had ordered. It was just too much food and the piece of cake was shared with the rest of our tablemates.

On her actual birthday we ate at Palo - so nice. The food is fantastic and they do something special for the birthday. Nothing big or anything but it did make it special for her.

I celebrated my 35th birthday last year on my birthday on the cruise. My birthday was embarkation day and it wasn't until about 3 days later that I finally got a "dessert" for my birthday. It was noted (or was supposed to be noted by my TA) on my reservation and I must say it was slightly disappointing to not celebrate my birthday on board. They just started right before my cruise in giving the mouse which was definately a disappointment when you are hoping for birthday cake. We are celebrating my dad's birthday onboard and I will definately be ordering him a cake. (now I will say my dissapointment was more that my husband nor my parents did anything to even address that it was my birthday on my birthday and not really directed at DCL but it would have been nice to have a celebration).
