Have you ever noticed this about SSR?

It's not as far from there to the main building as it is around World Showcase....

 That cant be can it? Never stayed there but that would be pretty extreme if its even close to the same wouldn't it? Plus it would be there and back.

I took my Garmin training watch last time I was there.

Look at the map on post 23. Even for the places that aren't measured using the comparsion of things that are you can tell it's not that far! Holding my fingers on the screen and using the only stright line on that map (Blue Route) It appears to be very close to the same distance from the "dreaded" Carousel to the main building as it is from that midpoint parking lot in Congress Park. .24 mile give or take one way. So around half a mile round trip.

It's a mile around the World Showcase!

I don't find the location relevant. I wouldn't spend all that much time at the main building. I wouldn't have a problem with Carousel as long as it has a bus stop.

Never been there but I have been placed at the Paddock which was fine.

The beauty of DVC is that there are different resorts. Hopefully folks have an opportunity to visit each or at least know what they are looking for when they buy their home resort. We did just that when we purchased DVC. We "thought" that BWV or BCV would be the resort we wanted because my DH loves Epcot. BUT my DH wanted to be sure, so we spent our trip last summer visiting DVC resorts in the afternoon. Then we thought about the type of vacation our family likes to take. Resort theming had little to do with our decision. The grounds and facilities were more important. SSR fits our family.

I don't understand why people feel the need to be continually negative about any resort. If you don't like it, just say it wasn't to your liking. The sometimes lack of Mousekeeping, bus issues and resort size can be at any DVC.

To the lurkers that are reading and trying to decide which resort, you need to look at the way you want to vacation. There is a "home" for you.

And count us in the third group who are happy to be in WDW. We hope to stay in all of them eventually. Heck, we love SSR and we want to buy GCV, how different are they from each other.

We stayed in a 2 bdrm in the Springs section and were very pleased with the location. The room was beautiful, and we were close to everything. I can see how location could make or break your stay here though. I don't think that we would have been as happy if we were far away from everything. We have also stayed in the Grandstand section, and enjoyed this as well.

To me it's not location as much as view, I don't mind a little walk in fact I enjoy it but I don't want to look at dumpsters or parking lots. My last trip to SSR was at the springs we got stuck watching the buses go in and out of the gate. At night they keep a yellow strobe light on, if we kept the door open you would hear buses acelerate, did not ruin my trip but it did ruin sitting on the balcony and since the weather was nice I would have liked to keep my door open and not runt the air. Give me an open door and cieling fan any day over air, well almost any day. summer is anexception but then the springs is to far from a pool. That being said SSR is still my favorite resort just have to make sure I ghet a better location. Just one more argument for prefered views at SSR. Many people don't care about view and would rather save points.

My 2 cents....

We love SSR...it had more pro's when we decided to purchase.....including the fees...we liked the location...this was a resort we could go to for a quick trip, relax, spa, DTD...Dh has golf.....and not even visit parks if we chose....and still feel like we had a vacation!

I have been fortunate with both stays....Grandstand.....would not be the end of the world for me if I was placed in Carousel.....
However....after enduring TS Fay..and having to get to AP with my toddler in a stroller in the downpour....not sure how I would have felt further out!! lol

Actually, I do remember a post that loved the Carousel. (I'd search for it, but can't remember anything unique enough to get that dog to hunt properly).

IIRC, the poster enjoyed the scenic walk across the bridge to the main building and didn't think it was all that long. Also mentioned that they liked the quiet area and easy access in and out by car. Something for everyone, somewhere, LOL.

I remember this also... it seems that i've read that for some that are resort stay only guests (non-park trip) enjoyed their stay there for the peace and quiet. I know older, mature folks have enjoyed it there.

Disney does certainly have opportunities for stays for all sorts of people.:surfweb:

we are probably adding on this year at AKV and if we get developer points, I figured we would take a christmas trip to SSR...hubby said no way, he'd rather sell our points than stay there again. Personally, I don't love it but for a "free" room, I'd stay.;)

I bought resale at SSR so I am totally entitled to point out my dislikes of SSR just as a condo owner complains about the lawn not being cut. Especially when Disney is listening to the boards.

SO... if we bought direct from DVC we are not entitled?:confused3 I don't understand that distinction. We ALL made the choice to buy or not, so if it is not what you wanted, why buy? You are totally "entitled" (though I hate that word) to point out what you don't like, but why? What is it you want DIsney to do?
I guess I am a glass-half-full kind of person:hippie: , but I prefer to point out the things I do like. You do mention the low fees, which must be why you bought here? I think it's great that Disney built a DVC resort large enough to hold so many guests (DVC or not). I love the styling of the rooms, the gorgeously manicured landscape, proximity to DTD, wonderful amenities, etc. etc. We come and soak it in every chance we get. Doesn't matter which resort.

Sorry if I sound like I am scolding...just get tired of negativity. "Mama says, if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all!":daisy:

I think she simply meant that she is a SSR owner, so she is entitled to say her opinion, positive or negative. Take out the resale word in her sentence, I don't think she meant anything by it.

I've stayed in both The Paddock and the Carousel sections of SSR and liked them both. I liked The Carousel especially for its access to the exit of the resort. I could run quickly to Walmart, Church, etc... It's a convenient location for me. For others who like to go to the main area, I can see and understand why it would not be...

I don't think the word "resale" had anything do do with the comment. I might know....piercedrn is my hubby.;)

I also think that without some negative talk, chat boards would cease to exist. I like this forum because it allows people to vent their frustrations as well as share in joyful experiences.

I think piercedrn was simply saying he is not just someone who is bashing away at resorts in a negative manner, but rather he owns at SSR so you can take his complaints as being objective.

I would say a good percentage of people buy into DVC not really knowing much about how the process works and/or about the actual properties. We purchased BWV in 98 because it is what was promoted by Disney. We new nothing about resales and the availability of other properties. Our exposure and education was strickly Disney provided and directed. Turns out we have dislikes with BWV. We don't like the parking arrangement, the long halls, the restaurant arrangement, and maintenance seems to be lacking. After 10 years we rarely go to BWV. Ultimately though we're still happy with being DVC members.

That's my perspective.

Sorry about the confusion, I wrote the word resale because I compared all the DVC's and still chose SSR. When I bought disney only offered SSR at $92 and AKV at$101 both of which were kinda bad deals. So that let me pick from ALL the properties not what Disney was selling. After reviewing the market SSR still made the most sense for us with the price ($83), dues and 2054 end date. Thereby, I had to choose value over Location, location location; a choice a lot of us had to make in this economy.
Put all the Dvc's at the same price with 2054 and I will choose differently.
I didn't mean to offend anyone if you bought from Disney, I will be buying from them soon. This time it will be about location, AKV or BLT.

I don't hold back pointing out flaws in the DVC's because Big Brother is listening here, and maybe something will improve over time!
Dvc's golf resort is too big so...rent the golf carts to the guests too!
